BCD 0.1.578

@thebcd69 thebcd69 released this 21 Oct 11:05

Tried one of these games on an earlier build? Reset its settings first. A game keeps the settings it had until you reset them, so without this it may start with the old ones that failed. On the game's page: Options › Recommended settings › Reset to Recommended, then check that Options › Auto-tune › Auto-tune this game is on, and start the game again.

This build fixes failures found in the logs you sent with Send Log since 0.1.576 (0.1.577 was a test build and was not released). Each fix targets the error a log showed; none of them could be tested on a device yet, so a game may now get further and still stop at a later point. If it does, please send a new log: it names the next problem.

  • BeamNG.drive: when its launcher stopped, the whole of BCD could close. The logs showed Wine's server writing to an I/O request it had already freed; the cause is fixed. BeamNG.drive's recommended settings also ask its launcher for the x64 version, because the native ARM64 version cannot start yet. If the launcher still says "Current mode: native ARM", click that text to switch to "emulated x64".
  • Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2 (Rockstar Launcher): "Failed to connect to the Rockstar Games Library Service" showed up in the sessions where auto-tune had turned on AVX emulation for the game. Auto-tune no longer does that for Rockstar games, and their recommended settings turn it off. If you saw this message, reset the game's settings as described above.
  • Dying Light: the logs showed a crash in Wine's device setup when the game and its controller library listed devices at the same moment. Its recommended settings now use a fixed copy of that part of Wine.
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City: the logs showed the game stopping at start because part of the memory used to run code could no longer run code. BCD now leaves that memory aside.
  • 32-bit games on devices with a small address space (iOS 18 on older iPhones): a failed memory placement now tries the next free range instead of stopping the game.
  • Monster Hunter Stories 3 (Trial), Monster Hunter Rise: recommended settings and auto-tune aimed at the crash in their logs.
  • No Rest for the Wicked: runs since 0.1.576 but ran out of memory after a few minutes; its recommended settings now load smaller compressed textures.
  • Recommended settings for more games: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, LEGO Party!, 1000xRESIST and Spelunky 2, also through the online list.
  • Games that closed but stayed on screen: when a game's program ended in a way BCD did not notice, its last frame stayed on screen as if the game had frozen (GTA IV). BCD now ends the session and says the game closed, with its exit code.
  • BCD closing on the next tap after a game: the logs showed BCD crashing on the first tap after some games ended (Dead Space, Tomb Raider, PES 2013, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, GTA IV): a name the app kept pointed to memory that was already gone. The cause is fixed.
  • Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales: the logs showed the game stopping after about 40 seconds of play on a texture view that Metal refused. Its recommended settings, and auto-tune, now give such textures their full set of sizes.
  • One-time installs, .NET Framework: the .NET Framework setups some games run first (Batman: Arkham City and others) never finished. BCD now skips them when Wine Mono is installed, because Wine Mono provides .NET; without Wine Mono the start screen says to download it in Settings › .NET Framework.
  • Steam games that need Steam's Windows service (Call of Duty: Black Ops and other games whose program Steam prepares per user): "its Windows service isn't installed" is fixed; BCD now installs Valve's Steam Client Service the way Steam on Windows does. Some of these games may still stop at the next step; a new log will name it.
  • Batman: Arkham City, Injustice: Gods Among Us: the logs showed both games crashing in the same spot shortly after start. Auto-tune now tries a more exact floating-point mode after this crash, and the next log tells whether that was the cause.
  • Tiny game windows (American Truck Simulator): a game that goes fullscreen in a window smaller than 160x120 now gets a window the size of the screen.
  • Touch controls: a new built-in "PC keyboard" layout. Turning touch controls on with nothing on screen now puts "PC keyboard" there, or "Full controller" for Steam games.
  • AltStore and SideStore source: BCD can now be added as a source, so it installs and updates from there: https://thebcd69.github.io/bcd-games/source.json (thanks to le0-VV).
  • Starting a game: tapping Play twice in a row no longer breaks the start.
  • Auto-tune recognises the new failures, no longer counts a game that never drew a frame as working, reads the memory limit from the log, and recognises a game closed for memory even when a helper program failed too.
  • Send Log: logs name more causes (failed memory calls, the Rockstar service's own messages, the folder a game starts in, failed one-time installs, how a game window was created, how a game ended, Steam's own service logs), so the next reports lead to fixes faster.

BCD.ipa: the unsigned IPA, for sideloading with SideStore, AltStore or LiveContainer. It needs iOS 18 or later and JIT; the README has the details.
BCD-source.tar.xz: the complete source of this build with all its submodules (GPL-3.0).

  • 32-bit games on iOS 18: the logs showed every 32-bit Windows game stopping right at launch on iOS 18 (Terraria, Half-Life 2, Dead Space, Duck Game, Stick Fight and others). The cause is fixed.
  • Missing Windows libraries: Megabonk, No, I'm not a Human, Over the Hill, Fort Solis, DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO and Animal Well closed at once because a library they ask for was missing. Their recommended settings now provide it.
  • Programs that could not load: Hogwarts Legacy, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Stellar Blade Demo and STAR WARS Galactic Racer failed to load their program at a fixed address. Their recommended settings now keep room for it.
  • Counter-Strike 2, Spelunky 2, Albion Online: the logs showed the JIT pool running out while the game loaded. BCD can now split the pool (recommended settings, and auto-tune).
  • Crashes seen in the logs, now addressed: Batman: Arkham Asylum, Brutal Legend and Dishonored during play; Graveyard Keeper 2, TEVI, Cult of the Lamb, Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Caves of Qud shortly after start; Left 4 Dead 2 after a few minutes; GTA IV, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Dead Space at start.
  • Quaver, No Rest for the Wicked: recommended settings aimed at the crash in their logs.
  • Recommended settings for 16 more games, also through the online list.
  • Auto-tune recognises 16 more failures, says what it already tried, and no longer spends a start on the same settings when the failure cannot clear on its own.
  • Steam: a paused download keeps its progress when BCD is closed, and BCD no longer closes when the Steam connection drops while a game starts.
  • Game page: an install without the increased memory limit or extended virtual addressing now says so, with the fix (GetMoreRam). A .NET game that needs Wine Mono says where to download it.
  • Home screen: the big cards are no longer cut off with a controller connected (iPhone, landscape).
  • Send Log: logs name more failure causes, so the next reports lead to fixes faster.

  • Auto-tune is now on by default, for the app and for every game (Settings › Logs, and a switch on each game's page). When a game crashes, freezes or is closed by iOS, BCD looks through its log and suggests a fix. Switches you turned off stay off.
  • Hello Neighbor: BCD now gives that game the Windows library (wer.dll) its program asks for at start. Auto-tune adds the setting itself.
  • Fixed a rare crash of the interface right after pressing Play.
  • The licence notice inside the app is corrected.
