How do I make a pose?

This tutorial assumes you are familiar with the basics of blender. It also assumes you have a pose already created and want to use the tool to export it.

The first time you use s4animtools, it may look complicated. Here's a guide to help explain the basics! 2025-08-16 08_31_30-red tshirt C__Users_thepancake1_Desktop_tutorial_red tshirt blend - Blender 4

Select the rig object. Make sure "Is Sims 4 Actor" is enabled and that "Is Enabled for Animation" is also checked. Fill out the rig name at the top with "x" as well. For single-sim animations or poses, EA typically uses "x" as the actor name.

Scroll down until you see Clip Split Point(s) and Clip Name(s).

Fill out clip splits with how many frames you want the pose to last. I'll have this anim take 30 frames, which is a real life second in game. In clip name, enter the name of the pose you want to make.

I'm calling my pose "a_thepancake1_lookingcoolpose"! Take note that the game will automatically add the actor name to the end of the clip name when you export it. It will become "a_thepancake1_lookingcoolpose_x" after export.

Now, go to the top and click "Export Clip".

This will create a folder named "Animation Workspace" on your desktop.

If you don't want it to export to your desktop, you can always "Select Animation Export Path" at the top, as shown here. 2025-08-16 08_36_31-_ red tshirt C__Users_thepancake1_Desktop_tutorial_red tshirt blend - Blender

Select the two files the animation tool exported.

The clips should now appear in the package, then save.

Open the game, and use Andrew's Pose Player and use Pose By Name to play your pose.

Enter the name you gave to your pose, plus the actor name you gave to your rig.

If you're not sure what it is, look at the clip name in S4S.

Ta-da! Hopefully it exported correctly. If it did, your sim should be using the pose you made now. Now that you've done that, let's move to more complex uses of this tool! 2025-08-16 08_53_13-The Sims™ 4
