How do I make a pose or animation?

Welcome to s4animtools! This tutorial assumes that you have already installed the addon, if not, go ahead and go there.

To get started, click on the s4animtools panel on the sidebar of your 3D viewport. Make sure you have the base rig selected, especially if you're using a control rig!

Then, enable the "Is Sims 4 Actor" toggle, along with the "Is Enabled for Animation" button.

Now you're ready to start making your pose or animation!

Remember to insert a keyframe when you're done.

After you've finished doing that, we can finally start prepping it for export.

Here's what my pose looks like!

First, go to rig name. This is the name of the actor which this animation is going to be used on. For EA animations, this is typically "x". I'll go ahead and do that.

I'm going to make my pose take five seconds. Since Sims 4 animations run at 30 FPS, that means a five second pose will run for 150 frames.

For Clip Name, it's important for this to be unique, so I'll prefix it with my username. I'll call it "a_thepancake1_wave". It's important to not include the actor name in the clip name, as the rig name will automatically be included with the clip name on export. If you're animating the Jaw bone, make sure to enable the "Allow Jaw Animation for Entire Animation" toggle.

You can also choose to export your clip to a folder of your choosing by using the "Select Animation Export Path" tool.

By default, if no path is specified, it will export it to your desktop in a folder named Animation Workspace.

Now, let's export our clip using the "Export Clip" button, then importing the clip files generated by the tool into a package. We'll move this package to our mods folder, and test it in-game using andrew's pose player!

Here's what the pose looks like in-game.

Congratulations, you have made your first clip file for the game!
