Point release that fixes the admin-password prompt appearing on every restart.

Requires macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later.

Fixes

  • No more admin-password prompt on every restart. The launch-time source refresh now respects your configured refresh interval instead of running on every launch, and waits 5 minutes after boot before its first run — so a blocklist auto-reapply can't prompt for your password the moment you turn on your Mac. With a weekly interval, that's at most one refresh (one possible prompt) per week, never mid-boot.
  • Scheduler reworked to a single interval-anchored timer: a not-yet-due launch no longer defers the next refresh by up to ~2× the interval, and changing the interval (or turning refresh Off) can no longer let a stale refresh fire.
  • An all-offline refresh no longer throttles the next attempt for a full interval.

Install

  1. Download HostsSwitchr-0.1.1.dmg below.

  2. Open it and drag Hosts Switchr onto Applications.

  3. The app is unsigned (it deliberately uses no Apple Developer Program, signing, or privileged helper), so macOS blocks it on first launch. To allow it:

    • Double-click Hosts Switchr; when macOS warns it "can't verify the developer," click Done (not "Move to Trash").
    • Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll to the Security section.
    • Click Open Anyway next to "Hosts Switchr" was blocked to protect your Mac, then authenticate and click Open.

    macOS only asks once — after that it launches normally.

/etc/hosts is only ever changed when you click Apply (you'll be asked for your admin password — the only privileged step).
