Hosts Switchr 0.1.2

Point release that fixes the admin-password prompt firing on every keystroke while editing a fragment.

Requires macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later.

Fixes

• No more admin-password prompt on every character typed in a fragment. Editing a fragment that belonged to the active profile used to re-apply /etc/hosts after every debounced save — so the authorization prompt reappeared every few keystrokes, making fragment editing unusable. Fragment editing now just saves and marks the active profile out of date, exactly like editing a profile's own content.
• New Apply button in the fragment editor. It re-applies the active profile (with the fragment's changes) on demand, and stays disabled until there's actually something to apply — mirroring the profile editor. /etc/hosts is still only ever touched when you click Apply.

Install

1. Download HostsSwitchr-0.1.2.dmg below.

2. Open it and drag Hosts Switchr onto Applications.

3. The app is unsigned (it deliberately uses no Apple Developer Program, signing, or privileged helper), so macOS blocks it on first launch. To allow it:

   • Double-click Hosts Switchr; when macOS warns it "can't verify the developer," click Done (not "Move to Trash").
   • Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll to the Security section.
   • Click Open Anyway next to "Hosts Switchr" was blocked to protect your Mac, then authenticate and click Open.

   macOS only asks once — after that it launches normally.

/etc/hosts is only ever changed when you click Apply (you'll be asked for your admin password — the only privileged step).
