Point release that fixes the wording of the update prompt.

Requires macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later.

Fixes

  • Update prompt now tells you to quit before dragging. The "Update downloaded" message previously said to drag the new app into Applications and then quit — but dragging over the still-running app makes macOS report "the item 'Hosts Switchr' is in use." The prompt now guides you to quit → drag → reopen, and its Quit Now button lets you quit right from the dialog before you drag.

Install

  1. Download HostsSwitchr-0.2.1.dmg below.

  2. Open it and drag Hosts Switchr onto Applications. (If Hosts Switchr is already running, quit it first from its menu-bar icon, otherwise macOS will say the item is in use.)

  3. The app is unsigned (it deliberately uses no Apple Developer Program, signing, or privileged helper), so macOS blocks it on first launch. To allow it:

    • Double-click Hosts Switchr; when macOS warns it "can't verify the developer," click Done (not "Move to Trash").
    • Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll to the Security section.
    • Click Open Anyway next to "Hosts Switchr" was blocked to protect your Mac, then authenticate and click Open.

    macOS only asks once — after that it launches normally.

/etc/hosts is only ever changed when you click Apply (you'll be asked for your admin password — the only privileged step).
