FlowCE Steps 2.0 beta 1
Pre-releaseBeta. FlowCE with step-by-step solutions. After a derivative, an integral, a limit, a sum or a Taylor polynomial, press enter to see how to get the answer, the way a textbook's worked example does.
What's in it
- Steps for derivatives (product, quotient and chain rules), integrals (substitution, by parts, partial fractions, trig substitution and more), limits (L'Hôpital's rule, limit laws, the squeeze theorem), sums (telescoping, the ratio, root, integral and alternating series tests) and Taylor polynomials.
▲and▼go from step to step. - Everything in FlowCE 1.9 except Python syntax in programs: both don't fit.
- The fixes since 1.9: running out of memory no longer quits FlowCE, 20 KB more memory for big calculations, crashes and freezes fixed (
∫8x(2x+1)^2026 dx, radius-of-convergence limits, a function defined with itself,ONduring a long simplify), wrong answers fixed (Σ(−1)^k, Σ(1/n − 1/(n+1)), related rates withr(t)), "diverges" messages,∫1/(5x) dx= ln|x|/5 + C. - Trig derivatives as you'd write them:
3sec²(x)tan²(x)rather than3(1+tan²(x))tan²(x).
Known issues
- Not every problem has steps yet. When no textbook method explains the answer, it says so. Some problems with huge powers, like
∫8x(2x+1)^2026 dx, show "No steps" on the calculator (the answer itself is right). - Steps take a few seconds to appear on the calculator, longer for hard problems.
- If a step looks wrong, please say what you typed on the Cemetech thread.
Install
From the web: https://tommyb3ll.github.io/FlowCE/?build=steps (pick FlowCE Steps).
With TI Connect CE: clear the archive (2nd + → 7 → ARCHIVE → 3 → 2), send FlowCE-steps.b84, then prgm → enter → enter (arTIfiCE), enter (INST), enter again. It counts down from 43 to 0. At "Success! Will now reset", press enter, then clear, apps → FlowCE.
You need a TI-84 Plus CE (or TI-83 Premium CE) on OS 5.3 to 5.8.4. Installing erases the calculator's apps and archived files. To go back to the stable version, install FlowCE.b84 from the latest release the same way.
Tested on an emulated TI-84 Plus CE: about 900 Calc 1–3 problems (same answers as the 1.9.1 candidate except the trig derivative forms), the ON key during long calculations, out-of-memory cases, and the graph, table, Variables, catalog, editor and steps screens.
FlowCE is free software under the GNU GPL v3 or later, with no warranty. It is a computer algebra system: follow your test's calculator rules.
