Toolport Studio 0.1.0-beta.14

A reliability pass on Claude sessions, plus the fixes from this round of dogfooding.

A finished turn no longer shows as still running. A thread subscription could lose its transport and quietly stop applying events while the socket stayed up — so the UI sat on a live turn long after the server had finished it, Stop had nothing to stop, and only restarting Studio revealed the real state. Subscriptions now recover on their own, and a thread showing an active turn that has applied nothing for three minutes re-checks against the server instead of waiting for you to notice.

Stop works. Provider control intents run off the turn lane, so Stop is no longer queued behind the turn it is trying to stop.

You can steer mid-turn. A message sent while a turn is running reaches the model instead of waiting for the turn to end.

Provider substitution is disclosed. When a turn runs on a provider you did not pick, the session says so, and provider handoffs are marked inline in the transcript rather than in a banner above it.

The context meter tells the truth. A 200k session reported 1M from its first completed turn onward, which made usage impossible to attribute. The meter now reflects what you actually selected.

A turn cut off with a tool call still open is no longer reported as a failure.

Background work is visible where you are looking. A turn waiting on a background task now names it on the Working row, so a session watching CI no longer looks identical to a stuck one.

Also in this build: Ungrouped rows can be dragged again, your interjection is no longer pinned to the Working status row, and the provider handoff label no longer overflows its column.

Known issue: auto-cancel on an unanswered permission or input prompt still runs on wall-clock time (3 and 5 minutes) regardless of whether you are at the keyboard, and can discard a draft you were typing. Suspending it on presence is next.

Toolport Studio 0.1.0-beta.13

Adds OpenRouter and Vercel AI Gateway as API-key providers. Model lists are fetched from your account rather than shipped with the app, and Browse models searches the full catalog so you never type a slug. Image attachments are gated per model. Adds a live background-task roster in the Agents panel and This-turn card, plus a sidebar pill counting running tasks across threads. Fixes API key validation reporting invalid keys as authenticated, the add-provider wizard showing the wrong preset, and duplicate model rows.

Toolport Studio 0.1.0-beta.7

First public build since beta.4. beta.5 and beta.6 were cut as drafts and never published, so this covers all three.

Providers respond again

Three separate defects could each make a provider accept a turn and then never reply. All three are fixed.

  • Codex, DeepSeek and every BYOK instance went silent after the first turn. The adapter's event consumer was forked as a child of the fiber that ran startSession, so it was interrupted the moment that fiber finished. Only notifications arriving during startup were ever projected; a full turn streamed past an audience that had already left (#75)
  • Cursor turns ended with no reply, for the same reason in its notification consumer (#74)
  • One malformed notification could end a codex session's entire event stream, silently dropping everything after it (#73)

Supporting work:

  • Cursor now recovers when a recycled agent no longer knows the session, instead of failing the turn with a raw "Invalid params" (#72)
  • Raw codex protocol frames are recorded per thread, which is what made the above diagnosable (#70)
  • A cursor turn that produces nothing reports it and restarts the agent connection before the next message (#69)
  • A codex turn that goes silent for 90 seconds says so instead of spinning forever, and a follow-up no longer folds into a stalled turn (#68)
  • Provider children are recycled when the preview bearer rotates (#65)

Composer and queue

  • Queued messages appear immediately instead of up to 30 seconds late, and Send now, Remove and Clear queue work. Queue state was never streamed to the client, so the chip could outlive a queue the server had already drained (#68)
  • Live-turn queue and send actions consolidated (#63)

Features

  • BYOK provider driver with DeepSeek support: bring an API key and get a first-class instance (#60)
  • Provider subagent runs are surfaced in the timeline (#66)
  • Account and plan shown for Grok and OpenCode (#61)
  • Model picker redesigned for multiple accounts (#62)
  • Simplified sidebar navigation and project shelves (#64)

Other fixes

  • Sessions and orchestration reliability hardening (#54)
  • The recent exchange is carried through a provider handoff (#35)
  • First connection no longer re-probes every provider at boot (#59)

Known issues

  • Grok's notification consumer has the same fiber-lifetime defect fixed here for cursor and codex. It self-heals by recycling, so it stutters rather than going silent. Tracked as SOU-532
  • The Working timer resets to zero about two seconds into a turn. Cosmetic. Tracked as SOU-533

Toolport Studio 0.1.0-beta.4

Fixes the three things most likely to interrupt a working session.

Fixed

Sending again no longer loses the chat. A new chat creates its thread on the first send. If the provider went quiet and you sent again before anything rendered, that second send was rejected as a duplicate and took the whole turn down with it, dropping you back on the composer with no error while the thread survived on the server. Resending now starts the turn on the thread that already exists.

Connecting no longer stalls the server. Every client connection forced a full provider refresh and a full editor scan, neither of them cached. On a machine with a large PATH that meant tens of thousands of filesystem probes on the same thread that serves HTTP, so the health check timed out and the client reconnected, which forced the work all over again. Editor discovery and command lookups are now cached with a short expiry, and connecting no longer forces a refresh.

New messages no longer scroll you up into old ones. Work rows changed identity mid-stream when a run crossed the overflow threshold, which dropped the scroll anchor in the virtualized list and rebuilt the viewport from stale row heights.

Lower idle CPU on Windows. The process resource sampler shelled out to PowerShell every 5 seconds even on hosts where that query always times out. It now backs off to a 5 minute ceiling and resets as soon as sampling succeeds.

Also in this build

  • Releases can be cut as a draft, so installers can be tested before the updater offers them to anyone.
  • macOS builds verify the app inside the dmg, and the publish gate requires both architectures.
  • The server test suite now runs correctly on Windows hosts.

Known issues

  • A cold first connect after a restart can still take a few seconds while the editor cache fills. Every connect after that is served from cache.

Toolport Studio 0.1.0-beta.3

First macOS build. Toolport Studio now runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux. The macOS app is signed and notarized by Apple.

Provider status is more reliable. A slow provider check no longer marks that provider as broken or makes it unselectable, and the picker shows last known status immediately on launch instead of waiting for every check to finish.

Model picker fixes. The provider label under a model name now matches the list you are viewing, and Claude models no longer repeat the word Claude in every row.

Note for macOS: passkey sign-in is not available in this build. Every other sign-in method works.

Toolport Studio 0.1.0-beta.1

First beta.

Toolport Studio is one desktop app for Claude, Codex, Cursor, Grok, and OpenCode. It uses the provider CLIs you already have installed and signed in, so there is nothing new to authenticate and no API keys to convert.

It gets used for real work every day across multiple providers. Beta means the surfaces are not all equally mature. It does not mean the basics are shaky.

Before you start

Install and sign in to at least one provider CLI:

  • Claude: claude auth login
  • Codex: codex login
  • Cursor: cursor-agent login
  • Grok Build: grok login
  • OpenCode: opencode auth login

Provider coverage

Grok has by far the most mileage. Claude and Codex get regular but lighter use. Cursor is light. OpenCode is the least exercised, so expect the roughest edges there.

Much faster than the last alpha

  • Install writes 678 files instead of roughly 22,570, so it finishes instead of grinding
  • The window appears immediately rather than sitting blank for about ten seconds while the backend starts
  • Opening a heavy conversation dropped from over 25 MB of JSON to about 1 MB
  • Background git polling went from every 30 seconds to every 5 minutes
  • The database reclaims dead space on upgrade. One 590 MB file came back as 63 MB

Fixes

  • Streaming replies no longer jump to the top of long conversations
  • The working indicator stays visible for the whole turn
  • Stopping a turn early no longer reports a provider error
  • Dismissing an error banner actually dismisses it

Known issue

Opening a conversation in its own window can spike memory. Part of that is fixed and the rest is still being tracked.

Install

Download Toolport-Studio-0.1.0-beta.1-x64.exe and run it.

The installer is signed by CN=Brandon South, O=Brandon South, L=Wilmore, S=ky, C=US using Microsoft Azure Artifact Signing.
