SnapPile is a temporary visual clipboard for AI workflows: capture an area, keep it briefly in a floating stack, and drag it where you need it.

What's new since 0.2.1

  • The ⋯ menu in the menu bar popover no longer shows a redundant chevron next to its icon.

SnapPile 0.2.1 and later install this update automatically.

Install

Download SnapPile-0.2.2.dmg, open it, and drag SnapPile into Applications. Launch it from Applications; the app lives in the menu bar. Onboarding guides you through Screen Recording permission and optional Input Monitoring for the two-Option shortcut. If macOS asks you to restart after granting access, quit and reopen SnapPile.

Requires macOS 14 or later. Universal app for Apple Silicon and Intel, signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple. The interface currently ships in English only.

Drag acceptance depends on the receiving app. Copying or saving the PNG provides an alternative.

SnapPile is a temporary visual clipboard for AI workflows: capture an area, keep it briefly in a floating stack, and drag it where you need it.

What's new since 0.2.0

  • Automatic updates. SnapPile checks GitHub for a new release once a day, downloads it in the background, and installs it when you quit, since quitting discards the pile anyway. Install and Restart in the menu or in Settings → Updates updates right away and asks first if the pile contains images. Turn off Install Updates Automatically to check only on demand.
  • An update is installed only if the download matches the SHA-256 digest GitHub publishes for it and the app inside is signed by the same Developer ID team as the running app.

Starting with this version, future releases install themselves. Earlier versions need this one installed manually once.

Install

SnapPile is a temporary visual clipboard for AI workflows: capture an area, keep it briefly in a floating stack, and drag it where you need it.

What's new since 0.1.5

  • Capture a whole window. Tap Space during selection to switch to window picking. The window under the pointer is highlighted; a click or Return captures its own content, even where other windows cover it. Tap Space again to return to area selection. Holding Space still moves the area selection.
  • Screenshots for coding agents. Coding agents such as Claude Code can talk to SnapPile over the Model Context Protocol. Turn on Settings → Coding Agents → Allow Agent Requests (off by default) and run the setup command shown there. With request_screenshot, the agent asks and you select the area or window; get_latest_screenshot returns the newest image in the pile.
  • Captures without selection, if you allow them. A second opt-in, Allow Captures Without Selection, lets agents capture a whole display (capture_screen), list open windows (list_windows), and capture one window even when it is covered (capture_window). These captures go only to the agent, never into the pile.
  • The agent connection is a Unix socket that only your user account can open. Images are passed in memory and scaled to at most 1568 pixels on the longest edge for the agent.

SnapPile is a temporary visual clipboard for AI workflows: capture an area, keep it briefly in a floating stack, and drag it where you need it.

What's new since 0.1.4

  • The final minute before a capture expires counts down live in seconds, shown in red on the stack card, in the preview, and in the menu. The card shakes briefly when the last minute starts and every ten seconds after.
  • Unpinning a capture keeps it in the stack until it expires or a new capture needs its space.
  • Drag exports are read-only; if a receiving app changes the file, the next export rewrites it.
  • Windows open on the display that is currently active, and Settings starts from the saved shortcut.
  • Keyboard shortcuts that collide with enabled macOS system shortcuts are rejected.
  • Close and Minimize shortcuts, and Control-click opens the status menu.
  • More robust selection overlay across displays and focus changes; Retina captures keep their size via PNG DPI.

Install

SnapPile is a temporary visual clipboard for AI workflows: capture an area, keep it briefly in a floating stack, and drag it where you need it.

What's new since 0.1.2

  • New app icon and logo.
  • English interface, onboarding, settings, permission descriptions, and errors, with native localization resources ready for future translations.
  • English README and public documentation.

Included

  • Area capture with ⌃⌥S or both Option keys; hold Space to move the selection.
  • Compact square previews, overlay actions, and trackpad or mouse-wheel browsing.
  • Copy, save as PNG, pin, delete, and drag the complete original into compatible apps.
  • Configurable automatic expiry and stack limits. Captures initially stay in memory; dragging creates a temporary PNG file. Quitting discards the stack, including pinned captures.
