What’s New in Alpha 6
Alpha 6 adds safer legacy-playlist importing, easier DMR channel-map editing, stronger NXDN metadata and validation, and support for P25 ISSI foreign-system band plans.
This is still alpha software. Stop sdrtrunk-vce and back up its complete portable data folder before replacing an earlier build.
Added
- Import an older playlist into an existing installation. File > Import Legacy Playlist XML lets you choose an SDRTrunk XML playlist, preview its aliases, channels, channel maps, streams, and conflicts, and then merge it into the current portable database.
- Choose how import conflicts are handled. You can skip imported conflicts, keep both copies by renaming imported items, or replace matching existing items. References to renamed alias lists, streams, and channel maps are updated with the imported items.
- A safety backup is created before import. The importer writes a timestamped SQLite backup before applying changes and attempts to restore it if the import fails. Applying an import reloads configuration and stops currently running channels so the result can be reviewed before reception resumes.
- Copy and paste complete DMR channel maps. The DMR editor accepts spreadsheet-friendly tabs, commas, semicolons, or whitespace. Frequencies may be entered in MHz or Hz, and the uplink column is optional.
- P25 ISSI foreign systems retain their own band plans. Foreign WACN and System ID advertisements are stored separately from the home system, preventing matching band IDs from overwriting one another. The website can show one ISSI neighbor entry per foreign system and list its individual band definitions.
- Check for newer releases without leaving the application. A quiet startup check watches the
mainrelease track, and Help > Check for Updates provides a manual check. When a newer published build is available, an amber icon appears in the status footer and opens its GitHub release page. The application does not download or install updates.
Changed
- NXDN saved-call metadata is more complete. MBE call sequences retain additional call, codec, identifier, and frame context. Decoder validation now includes published protocol vectors and additional Type-D, channel-access, and initialization-vector coverage.
- DMR channel copies preserve their configuration. Cloning a DMR channel now carries over decoder options and creates an independent copy of every channel-map row.
- DMR map pasting is validated before replacement. Rows are sorted by logical channel number. Duplicate LCNs, negative frequencies, missing columns, and nonnumeric values are rejected without partially changing the current map.
- Repeated ISSI advertisements remain bounded. Repeated observations update the existing current and summary records instead of accumulating copies of the same band definition.
- The status footer is enabled once after upgrading. This makes update availability visible for existing installations. If you turn the footer off afterward, that preference is respected.
Fixed
- Events and Messages tables now report the correct removed row when their configured history limit is exceeded, including while a table sorter is active.
- Legacy DMR XML imports retain large Tier III frequency maps, decoder options, traffic-channel limits, and optional uplink frequencies.
- Matching P25 band IDs advertised by different foreign systems no longer collide with each other or with the monitored home system.
Removed
No user-facing feature, setting, channel, alias, recording, or stored statistic is intentionally removed by this release. The experimental webfirst browser spectrum and web-first interface work remains separate and is not included in Alpha 6.
Before You Upgrade
- A database migration is required from Alpha 5. Alpha 6 advances the P25 activity schema from version 19 to version 20. Stop SDRTrunk and run the supplied external
migrate-v19-to-v20-foreign-system-bandstool before launching Alpha 6 against an existing Alpha 5 portable database. - Normal startup will not perform the migration. The external tool checks database integrity, checkpoints pending WAL data, creates a timestamped backup, adds the bounded foreign-system band tables, updates the schema version, and verifies the result.
- Back up the complete portable
datafolder before upgrading. Returning to Alpha 5 requires restoring the pre-migration database backup as well as the earlier application. - Replace the application files instead of merging two releases together. Keep the portable data directory in its existing location.
- The legacy-playlist importer creates its own pre-import database backup, but that does not replace the full data-directory backup required before an application upgrade.
- After upgrading, confirm that expected tuners and channels start, then verify audio, recording, streaming, statistics, and browser access.

What’s New in Alpha 5
Alpha 5 makes updates easier to understand, improves help when something goes wrong, and makes P25 and web-call information clearer.
This is still alpha software. Stop sdrtrunk-vce and back up its portable data folder before replacing an earlier build.
Added
- A one-time What’s New window. Starting with this release, a plain-language summary opens automatically the first time you run each new public version. It does not interrupt later launches. You can open it again from the Help menu.
- Bug reports from inside the application. Help > Submit Bug Report lets you describe a problem, attach extra screenshots, and either send the report or save a ZIP for manual upload. Before anything is collected, the window explains exactly what is included and requires your consent.
- More useful browser playback details. The web player now keeps aliases together with their talkgroup or radio number and shows the system, channel, frequency, slot, decoder, protected-call status, and call length when available.
Changed
- P25 conventional imports are classified more accurately. A conventional P25 frequency imported from RadioReference now becomes a P25 Conventional channel instead of a trunked P25 control channel.
- Older XML playlists are handled more carefully. Single-frequency P25 entries that look conventional are converted to P25 Conventional during a first-time import, while entries with strong signs of a trunked system are kept as trunked channels. Existing channels in an already-created portable database are not changed automatically.
- Radio-system numbers are easier to read. Compact web tables use the familiar hexadecimal form, while detail pages show labeled hexadecimal and decimal values together where both are useful.
- Documentation has current screen images and clearer feature descriptions. Obsolete screenshots were replaced with views of the current desktop and web interfaces, and a new signal-path and delay explanation helps identify where listening latency comes from.
Fixed
- The browser player now correctly identifies whether a number is a talkgroup, radio, patch, or phone number and keeps the source-to-target relationship visible for playing and queued calls.
- Packaged builds now retain the exact application version and build details used by diagnostics, making submitted reports easier to match to the correct release.
Removed
No user feature, setting, channel, alias, recording, or stored statistic is removed by this release. Only outdated documentation images were replaced.
Before You Upgrade
- No database migration is needed from Alpha 4. Alpha 5 continues to use P25 history schema version 19.
- Replace the application files instead of merging two releases together, and keep your portable
datafolder. - The new bug-report tool includes the current application screenshot, application log, sanitized configuration, exact tuner identifiers and serial numbers, hostname, and basic computer details. The report service records the public address used for the upload and normally retains a report for 30 days. Recordings, the key vault, passwords, API credentials, and security-key material are excluded. Screenshots are not automatically redacted, so review the on-screen disclosure before consenting.
- The P25 import improvements affect new RadioReference or legacy-XML imports. Review newly imported channels as usual; existing portable-database channels are left alone.

This alpha makes desktop and web navigation clearer, improves P25 call and talker-alias accounting, and removes the
multi-second delay from large site-activity histories.

- Alpha 3 / schema v17: while SDRTrunk is stopped, run the external
v17-to-v18 migration,

v18-to-v19 migration. - Schema v18: run only the v18-to-v19 migration.
- Schema v14, v15, or v16: follow each documented migration in order through v19.
- Every migration tool requires SDRTrunk to be stopped, creates a timestamped backup, and validates the resulting

Upgrade notes
This release uses P25 history schema v17.
- Alpha 2 (schema v16): use the external v16-to-v17 site-status migrator from the
tagged migration instructions.
The tool requires SDRTrunk to be stopped, checks database integrity, checkpoints WAL data, creates a timestamped
backup, performs the migration in one transaction, and validates the complete v17 schema. - Schema v14 or v15: migrate to v16 first, then run the v16-to-v17 migration.
- Alpha 1 (schema v13): use the external Reset Stats Server schema tool. It preserves configuration, channels,
aliases, streams, preferences, and vault data, but starts Stats Server history fresh. - Do not merge an extracted package into an existing installation. Replace the application/install directory and keep
its sibling portable data directory.
The Alpha 2-to-Alpha 3 migration path was release-tested against a database created by the checksum-verified,
published Alpha 2 binary. The resulting v17 database passed integrity and full-schema validation, and the automatic
backup matched the original v16 database byte for byte.

This alpha improves P25 channel tracking, Stats Server visibility, live Systems views, and receiver stability over Alpha 1.
Alpha software: Back up the portable database before upgrading. Configuration and statistics use explicit SQLite schema versions and are never migrated automatically during normal startup.
