v1.2.0 — Self-updates and macOS
MultiPath v1.2.0 — self-updates, and macOS
Updates from inside the app
- Settings → Updates → Check: if there's a newer version, MultiPath shows what's new and waits for you to click Install and restart
- Signed: every update is checked against a key built into the app before it's installed; a download that doesn't check out is never installed
- Optional check at start (off by default): only tells you on the main page, never installs on its own
- Works with the Windows installer, the Linux
.deband AppImage, and macOS - Checking only asks GitHub for
latest.json; nothing about you or your PC is sent
macOS (Apple silicon)
- The same popup, below the menu bar icon; Wi-Fi, Ethernet and USB-tethered iPhone or Android (NCM)
- macOS asks for an administrator password each time you turn it on: a small helper adds the adapter, routes and DNS, and removes them again when you turn off or the app quits
- Ad-hoc signed, not notarised: the first time, open it once, then click Open Anyway in System Settings → Privacy & Security (on macOS 14 and older, right-click → Open also works)
Also new
- A colour for every network: two Ethernets or two Wi-Fi networks no longer share one colour in the ring, the list and Connections
- Hide unavailable networks (Settings → App): unplugged cables and networks that aren't connected leave the list
- Much less memory with many connections: idle connections hold a fraction of the memory, and connections an app has closed end at once (was 1 GB+ with thousands of connections)
Install
- Windows: run
MultiPath_1.2.0_x64-setup.exe, open it from the tray and allow the admin prompt - Debian / Ubuntu / Kali:
sudo apt install ./MultiPath_1.2.0_amd64.deb - Other Linux: make
MultiPath_1.2.0_amd64.AppImageexecutable and run it withsudo - macOS: open
MultiPath_1.2.0_aarch64.dmgand drag MultiPath to Applications
Coming from 1.1.0, install 1.2.0 by hand once; later versions update from the app. After an update on Windows, MultiPath comes back in the tray: turn it on again and allow the admin prompt.
Note: a single connection — one download, a video call or a game — still only gets one network's speed. Apps that open many connections get the combined speed.
v1.1.0 — Linux support
MultiPath v1.1.0 — now on Linux
MultiPath runs on Linux as well as Windows, from the same code. Everything the Windows app does — the tray popup, balancing, health checks, the connections list — works the same way on a Linux desktop.
Linux
- Same app, same popup: a 360 px flyout in the corner of the screen, from a tray icon
- All your networks: Wi-Fi, Ethernet and USB-tethered Android or iPhone, told apart by name and driver
- No root needed: the
.debgrants the two network permissions it needs at install time, so turning on never asks for a password - Which app uses which network: read from
/proc, like the Windows version - Start on login, through a desktop autostart entry
- Clean off switch: the adapter, routes, DNS and system settings all go back to normal, even after a crash
Tested on Kali (XFCE) with Ethernet plus a tethered phone, and in a network lab: two 10 Mbit/s links give 18 Mbit/s across 8 connections, split 50/50. A dead network is dropped in about 15 s, its connections close, and apps reconnect through the other one.
Fixes for both Windows and Linux
- A network that loses internet is taken out of rotation in about 15 s instead of 30 s
- When a network drops, its connections are closed properly, so apps reconnect through another network instead of hanging
- A connection that stalls on one network is retried on another after 5 s
- DNS lookups that ask several questions at once no longer get cut short
Install
- Windows: run
MultiPath_1.1.0_x64-setup.exe, open it from the tray and allow the admin prompt - Debian / Ubuntu / Kali:
sudo apt install ./MultiPath_1.1.0_amd64.deb - Other Linux: make
MultiPath_1.1.0_amd64.AppImageexecutable and run it withsudo(an AppImage can't hold the permissions itself, so the.debis the better choice where you can use it)
Requires: Windows 10/11 (64-bit) or a 64-bit Linux desktop with systemd, and two or more networks.
Note: a single connection — one download, a video call or a game — still only gets one network's speed. Apps that open many connections get the combined speed.
v1.0.0 — Initial Release
MultiPath v1.0.0
First release. Use Wi-Fi, Ethernet and USB-tethered phones at the same time on Windows. Built with Tauri v2 and Rust, fully local.
- Combine networks: two 10 Mbps networks give about 20 Mbps for speed tests, YouTube, downloads and browsing
- Smart balancing: each new connection goes to the network with the most free speed
- Health checks: networks without internet are skipped until they recover
- Tray popup: live speed and share for each network, switch networks on or off
- Connections view: see which app uses which network
- Settings: adaptive weighting, keep sites on one network, IPv6, DNS, start with Windows
- Clean off switch: Windows goes back to normal when MultiPath is turned off
Install: run MultiPath_1.0.0_x64-setup.exe, open it from the tray and allow the admin prompt.
Requires: Windows 10/11 (64-bit) and two or more networks.
Note: a single connection (one download, a video call or a game) stays at one network's speed.
