Our experience

Although we both felt that more could have been done in the sense of providing direction with the project, we enjoyed the freedom to develop something ourselves as it made it more about having fun rather than trying to complete a project. This creative freedom along with the use of technologies such as github really helped us gain important skills that we can use later on in our careers. We now have a better understanding of basic OOP, resource control, algorithm design and AI design.

Future development

Future developers of our code should be able to read our code and understand how it works. This is because we have followed good naming conventions, commented where necessary (if at all) and also packaged relevant objects together. We advise future developers to perhaps change the way we load worlds as right now we use a text file format using commas as a delimiter. A better way to store map data could be using XML or some other type of data storing method. Also, adding more textures and rooms to the game as right now there are only four rooms that all have a similar theme. It would be cool if the player could go outside to the garden or downstairs to the basement where the environment and atmosphere could be different which would make for a better game.

As for sound, there are better external libraries such as OpenAL which offers far more features than the default java audio library. Things such as 3d positional audio, along with the ability too simulate attenuation (degradation of sound over distance) could really add to the immersion of the game.
