Scoop v1.3.1-rc1 — YouTube test build

This is a prerelease for testing, not a verified stable release. Existing v1.3.0 downloads remain unchanged.

Choose your APK

• 32-bit ARM devices: Scoop-1.3.1-rc1-armeabi-v7a.apk
• 64-bit ARM devices: Scoop-1.3.1-rc1-arm64-v8a.apk

Both APKs support Android 7.0+, use version code 32, and are signed with the existing Scoop certificate. Install the matching APK over v1.3.0; uninstalling or clearing data should not be necessary.

Changes

• Failed video/audio analysis no longer silently switches to webpage images or downloads thumbnails.
• Updated the bundled yt-dlp extractor to 2026.08.19 and its Android Python/QuickJS runtime.
• Removed the obsolete forced Android player client.
• Existing installations receive the bundled extractor update automatically when the app starts.
• Analysis errors and timeouts are shown instead of being hidden by image discovery.

Validation and known limitations

16 unit tests and 9 targeted Android regression tests passed. Signed 32-bit and 64-bit release-mode builds were verified; release lint reported no errors, with warnings documented in the repository's QA notes.

End-to-end YouTube video/audio downloads are not yet verified. Live emulator tests encountered HTTP 429 and YouTube sign-in/bot challenges. Physical ARMv7 and ARM64 testing is still required. This build must not be treated as confirmation that every YouTube download works.

For issue #1, please test the three previously reported links in Video & audio mode, check both video and audio playback, and also check an image download. If a request fails, share the new error message and your Android version. The issue will remain open pending confirmation.

Build configuration: scoopVersionName=1.3.1-rc1, scoopVersionCode=32, and the matching scoopAbi. The repository's stable version defaults are unchanged.

Scoop v1.3.0

What changed

• Removed the unused aria2c runtime, reducing the signed APK by 4.49 MiB (11.5%) without removing any active download path.
• Removed dead extractor APIs, unused media metadata models, and unreachable intent handling.
• Removed redundant Android and test dependencies, manifest declarations, and generated Kotlin build-state noise.
• Kept yt-dlp, FFmpeg, gallery downloads, video/audio downloads, queue recovery, and update functionality intact.
• Added an explicit 32-bit ARM release build in response to issue #1.

Installation

Choose the APK matching your device:

• Scoop-arm64-v8a.apk — most modern 64-bit ARM phones and tablets.
• Scoop-armeabi-v7a.apk — 32-bit ARM devices running Android 7.0 or newer.
• Scoop.apk — legacy ARM64 download, retained for compatibility.

All APKs use the same Scoop signing certificate and update existing compatible installations.

Verification

• Clean release build and R8 optimization passed.
• 16 Android unit tests and 7 gallery-runtime tests passed.
• Both ARM64 and 32-bit ARM APKs were built, signature-verified, and inspected for the correct native ABI.
• The four on-device test suites compile successfully; no physical 32-bit device was connected to execute them.

Scoop v1.2.8

What changed

• Keeps download history out of Android cloud backup and device transfer.
• Selects the correct APK when ABI-specific release assets are available.
• Restricts pasted and opened download links to HTTPS.

Scoop v1.2.7

Removed the shadow and residual edge blur from the Download button on Home and the Check for update button in Settings. Both buttons retain their original Material shape, colors, layout and interaction behavior.

The optimized release build, release vital lint, six Android unit tests, and six gallery bridge tests passed. Both updated buttons were checked in light theme on the API 35 emulator. The ARM64 release APK's version, ABI, signature, checksum, and packaged gallery source were verified before publication.

Scoop v1.2.6

Fixed image gallery downloads that could send duplicate Referer headers when a site supplied the header with different capitalization.

Also corrected the POST_NOTIFICATIONS manifest declaration and added regression coverage for gallery headers and the existing session input-size boundary.

Scoop v1.2.5

Removed the Sign in section and Instagram account entry from Settings. Instagram sign-in recovery remains available when a download requires authentication.

Scoop v1.2.4

What's changed

• Added Settings → Sign in → Instagram for posts that require an Instagram account, with a sign-in action when image extraction needs authentication.
• Kept Instagram sessions on the device, scoped cookies to Instagram extraction, and excluded WebView session data from backup.
• Fixed notification permission checks and storage API compatibility.
• Fixed Android 7 permission-settings links.
• Fixed stale history entries after automatic retention cleanup and leftover incognito files after Clear all.
• Waiting downloads now recheck their conditions immediately when Wi-Fi-only, battery or concurrency settings change.

Verification and limits

The code audit passed 6 unit tests, 10 Android tests and 4 Python bridge tests. Optimized emulator tests completed video/audio, public YouTube and Wikimedia downloads. Full debug/release lint reported zero errors; warnings remain.

Authenticated Instagram downloads and the native runtime on a physical ARM64 phone remain unverified. Signing in does not guarantee access to private, deleted, restricted or rate-limited posts.

Scoop v1.2.3

Scoop v1.2.3 adds image downloads alongside video and audio.

• Download direct image links, including links without a file extension.
• Discover images from supported public galleries and webpages, preview them, and choose which to download.
• Save images in their original format and quality through Scoop's download queue, with history and incognito support.
• Open the new Images section directly below Downloads in Settings to control gallery preselection and access save-folder settings.
• Improve handling of shared links and rapid download completion.

Private posts, blocked websites, and pages that only load images through JavaScript may be inaccessible. Webpage results can include thumbnails and icons.

Install Scoop.apk to update your existing installation. This signed release is for ARM64 Android devices running Android 7.0 or newer.

Scoop v1.2.2

Adds a new General settings section for yt-dlp maintenance and download behavior, and fixes a layout issue in Settings.

Added

• Settings > General: a new section with an on-demand Update yt-dlp check, a Configure before download toggle (turn it off to skip the review sheet and download immediately with sensible defaults), a Save thumbnails toggle (saves each video's thumbnail as its own image file alongside the download), and an Incognito toggle (stops completed downloads from being written to persistent history for that session).

Fixed

• The Settings list rendered its rows behind the floating "Check for update" button, hiding part of the About row's subtitle. The list now scrolls fully clear of the button.
