Replace all effect durations that are variable and determined by a roll.
Instead, use an X-in-Y chance of ending at the end of every round/turn, where X is equal to the number of rounds/turns it has been in effect and Y is the maximum number of rounds/turns it could last.
If a spell in a physical book you have purchased (a "module," "adventure," or "supplement") says "the wizard's spell will last for D4 rounds") do the following instead:
The player who cast the spell rolls a D4. On a 4, the spell's effect ends this round. Otherwise, roll a D4 on the next round. If it's a 3 or 4, the spell's effect ends on that round. Continue increasing the chance of the spell ending each round until the spell has ended.
