Mixtapes and Collections

Mixtapes and Collections are QBZ-only ways to organize music. They do not replace Qobuz playlists, and they do not sync to Qobuz. They live locally in QBZ and can mix sources that Qobuz playlists cannot: Qobuz, your local files, and Plex.

A Qobuz playlist is still the right tool when you want a cloud-synced list of individual tracks tied to your Qobuz account. Mixtapes and Collections are for personal organization inside QBZ.

Mixtapes

A Mixtape is an ordered listening session.

Use a Mixtape when you want to build something like a cassette: a focused sequence for a mood, a day, a trip, a workout, or something you want to play from start to finish.

Mixtapes can contain:

• Albums
• Individual tracks
• Qobuz playlists
• Qobuz items, local files, and Plex items together

This makes them useful for long listening sessions that do not fit cleanly into a normal playlist. For example, you can build a full-day work Mixtape with albums, selected tracks, and existing playlists in one place.

Collections

A Collection is a private album shelf.

Use a Collection when you want to group albums around a theme: an artist deep dive, a genre period, a soundtrack universe, a label, a scene, or anything else you want to browse and shuffle as albums.

Collections contain albums only. That is intentional: they are shelves, not track lists.

Collections can be played in order, shuffled by album, or used to create a random queue. Album shuffle keeps each album's internal track order intact; it changes which album comes next, not the sequence inside the album.

Artist Collections

Artist Collections are a special kind of Collection built from an artist page.

The Discography Builder can gather albums from Qobuz, your local library, and Plex, group matching releases, let you correct release types, and create a Collection from the result. This is useful when an artist's work is spread across Qobuz, local files, Plex, remasters, alternate editions, or albums that are not easy to browse from one normal artist page.

Where to Find Them

Open the My QBZ section in the sidebar. Mixtapes and Collections appear there as separate views.

Right-click the My QBZ heading to rename the section or choose a custom icon. This is a sidebar context menu action, not a Settings page.

Adding Music

Use Add to Mixtape/Collection from supported context menus, including albums, tracks, playlists, search results, artist pages, local library items, and Plex-backed local library items.

When adding an album, both Mixtapes and Collections are valid targets. When adding a track or playlist, only Mixtapes are valid because Collections are album shelves.

If you add something that already exists in the target, QBZ asks whether to add it anyway or skip the duplicate.

Playback

Mixtapes and Collections can be played from their detail page:

• Play — plays the items in their saved order.
• Shuffle albums — randomizes album order while keeping tracks inside each album in order.
• Random queue — creates a mixed queue from songs in the collection.

Custom Covers

Each Mixtape or Collection can use its generated mosaic cover or a custom image. Open the overflow menu on the detail page and choose Upload cover.
