What's new
- Equalizer per source. A new Equalizer button in the source dialog. Ten bands, from 31 Hz to 16 kHz, each with its own gain, plus a preamp. There are 37 presets: the classic Winamp ones, plus curves for voice, podcast, telephone, AM radio, removing rumble and more. Changing any slider switches the preset to "Custom".
- Noise remover for audio devices. A new Noise Remover button, shown when "Audio Devices" is selected. It uses RNNoise to clean up fans, hiss and background noise from a microphone, with an adjustable intensity.
- Stereo or mono per source. A new Stereo check box, right after the source, checked by default. Unchecking it records that source in mono, mixing its channels into one, while the other sources stay in stereo. It works for devices, processes and executables.
- Show all processes. A new Show All Processes check box, before the Refresh button, lists every program that is open, not only those playing sound right now. This helps with programs that only play sound now and then.
- The test hears everything. With Test on, the equalizer, the noise remover and the stereo setting are heard right away, even while their dialogs are open. Cancel gives back the sound you had before.
- Changes apply during the recording. Editing a source while recording changes its equalizer, noise remover and stereo setting right away, in the same file, as the volume already did.
- Wider volume range. Each source can now go from -30 dB to +30 dB, instead of -20 dB to +20 dB. Sources you already have keep the same volume.
Changes in the source dialog
- The Test button is now the last one, after Equalizer and Noise Remover, since it plays what they set.
How to update
If you use version 1.4 or later, VB Recorder will offer this update by itself when it starts: just say yes. The update also brings a new file, lib\bass_fx.dll, used by the equalizer.
Otherwise, download VBRecorder-x64.zip for 64-bit Windows (most computers) or VBRecorder-x86.zip for 32-bit Windows (it also runs on 64-bit Windows), extract it wherever you like and run VBRecorder.exe. The lib folder must stay next to it. Requires Windows 10 or later.
