Why this release

Long AI conversations often accumulate repeated requirements and small corrections across many messages. The previous canvas reduced repetition, but row-by-row and table-cell controls still made whole-document selection and editing awkward.

What changed

  • Edit the complete authoritative Markdown body in one continuous text area.
  • Use Ctrl+A, copy, paste, and whole-document replacement as expected in a normal document.
  • Keep canvas, source, and final-review views on the same exact string so untouched Markdown is not reformatted.
  • Review and confirm AI-provided full-document or extension-point candidates without changing an extra character first.
  • Recover the draft and retry after save timeouts or a partial extension-point commit failure.
  • Keep a visible left-edge keyboard focus indicator without restoring row boxes.

Verification

  • 95/95 automated tests passed.
  • JavaScript syntax checks and the MCP probe passed.
  • npm reported 0 known production-dependency vulnerabilities.
  • 96 registry signatures and 11 provenance attestations passed.
  • GitHub Actions passed 5/5 jobs for the exact v0.5.9 commit on Windows and Linux with Node.js 22 and 24.

Important limitation

This is a pre-release. The 0.5.9 UI has not yet completed a reinstall-and-click verification inside the real Codex desktop host. It also has no cross-platform host matrix or external authoritative benchmark for context-canvas usability. This release does not claim production readiness, universal installation compatibility, or superiority over competing projects.

Rollback

Reinstall 0.5.8+codex.20260901204256 to restore the previous block-and-table canvas. Keep the project .codex-text-control/ directory; the revision format is unchanged.
