Recipe Format

Custom Recipes

A recipe is either a shaped recipe or a shapeless recipe which you can specify with the type string (e.g type: shaped). It is assumed to be shaped by default.

Shaped Recipes

Shaped recipes require a pattern, a pattern may either be a list of strings. If the config you're defining in supports it (e.g chests.yml) , it may also be the name of a predefined template (e.g the patterns section in chests.yml). You also need to specify the item types/items for the characters in the pattern. For example, if a pattern is AAA, BBB, CCC, you will need to specify the item types/items for A, B, and C. The format for the item types/items is defined at this page.

Example for the default coal chest recipe

normal:
  pattern: surround
  O: minecraft:coal
  I: minecraft:chest

(Pattern template defined at top of chests.yml)

surround:
  - OOO
  - OIO
  - OOO

Shapeless Recipes

A shapeless recipe is easier to define than a shaped recipe. One of the differences is that recipes default to being shaped so you must explicitly state a recipe is shapeless by adding a type node (type: shapeless). The next node needed is a list of of items, in the node items. They will need to be specified in a section-like fashion.

Example of a shapeless recipe

One that requires 3 coal and 1 feather

recipe:
  type: shapeless
  items:
    coal:
      type: minecraft:coal
      amount: 3
    feather: minecraft:feather
