FootageFlow v0.10.0 — Workspace & Accessibility Update

New local workspace

  • Use Global Search to find projects, media, favorites, downloads, history, Saved Searches, research references, and known local-media records already saved by FootageFlow.
  • Use Saved Searches to keep and rerun a query with its scope, filters, relevance mode, and enabled sources.
  • Review dynamic Smart Collections, project summaries, and manual Provider Health checks from Workspace.
  • Open the Command Palette for keyboard-first navigation to the main workflows.

Accessibility and privacy

  • Improved VoiceOver/Narrator labels, status descriptions, keyboard navigation, and native focus handling.
  • Workspace search is local-only. It does not crawl disks, upload workspace data, or index API keys, cookies, tokens, or raw logs.

Platform support

  • macOS 15+ on Apple Silicon
  • Windows 11 x64

FootageFlow remains a user-controlled application: this update does not add mandatory accounts, analytics, cloud sync, forced updates, or background provider polling.

Distribution note

The macOS build is Ad Hoc signed and is not notarized. The Windows installer is unsigned. SHA-256 checksum files are included with the release assets for independent verification.

FootageFlow v0.9.0 — Research & Culture Update

FootageFlow now combines media discovery with a local project research workspace.

Added

  • Media / Research / All search modes
  • Wikipedia, Wikidata, The Met, Art Institute of Chicago, Crossref, and GDELT research discovery
  • Project Research Notes with My Note, tags, citations, refresh, and Find Related Media
  • Source-confirmed Add as Media for public-domain Met/AIC records that include a public original-image URL
  • Research References and Combined Project Report exports
  • Portable project schema 2 with research references and backward-compatible schema 1 import

Important limits

  • Research records are references, not pre-cleared media.
  • Crossref provides metadata; FootageFlow does not download restricted paper full text.
  • GDELT is discovery-only; FootageFlow does not download or clear news articles or images.
  • A Wikipedia preview must be traced to its specific Wikimedia Commons file and license before reuse.
  • Museum rights are shown only when provider metadata explicitly indicates them.

Assets

  • FootageFlow-0.9.0-macOS-arm64.dmg — macOS 15+ on Apple Silicon
  • FootageFlow-Setup-0.9.0-Windows-x64.exe — Windows 11 x64 installer
  • FootageFlow-0.9.0-Windows-x64-portable.zip — Windows 11 x64 portable package
  • SHA-256 checksum files for all packages

FootageFlow remains local-first, has no account or analytics, and never forces an update.

FootageFlow v0.8.0

Highlights

  • Export project attribution reports in Markdown, CSV, JSON, or offline HTML.
  • Generate concise or detailed credits from Provider-supplied source metadata.
  • Review a project with Rights Audit filters before publishing.
  • Create a portable .footageflowproject backup for macOS and Windows without bundling media or credentials.
  • Find exact and likely duplicate project items locally, save a decision, and safely remove only a project association when needed.
  • Export a numbered PNG contact sheet using cached/provider thumbnails, local images, or a best-effort FFmpeg video frame.

Privacy and rights

FootageFlow never treats a successful download as permission to reuse media. Reports and backups omit credentials, cookies, tokens, raw clipboard content, and absolute local paths by default. A backup stores metadata only, never media binaries.

Rights Audit is an organization aid, not legal clearance. Always verify the original source page before publishing.

Packages

  • FootageFlow-0.8.0-macOS-arm64.dmg — macOS 15+ on Apple Silicon
  • FootageFlow-Setup-0.8.0-Windows-x64.exe — Windows 11 x64 installer
  • FootageFlow-0.8.0-Windows-x64-portable.zip — Windows 11 x64 portable package
  • .sha256 checksum files for every package

FootageFlow does not silently download, install, or force updates. Existing v0.7+ installs can show this release in the in-app update dialog when online.

FootageFlow v0.7.4

FootageFlow v0.7.4 improves update visibility without taking control away from the user.

Improved

  • FootageFlow now checks for new stable releases on every app launch when online.
  • Outdated installations receive an update dialog with the current version, latest version, publication date, and the latest release notes.
  • Choosing Not Now dismisses the reminder only for the current session. If the app remains outdated, the next complete launch checks and reminds again.
  • Offline, timeout, rate-limit, GitHub availability, and invalid-response failures remain silent during startup. Manual checks continue to show a friendly status.
  • Legacy v0.6.0-and-earlier users receive manual-upgrade guidance in the README and their older Release pages.

Safety and privacy

  • View Update opens only the official xcslys99/FootageFlow GitHub Release page.
  • Release Notes are shown as bounded, safe plain text; embedded HTML or scripts are never executed.
  • The update request does not send projects, searches, downloads, clipboard contents, API keys, local paths, or other personal data.
  • FootageFlow never silently downloads or installs an update and never forces an update.

Platforms

  • macOS 15+ on Apple Silicon
  • Windows 11 x64

The macOS app is Ad Hoc signed and not notarized. The Windows installer is not code-signed. Verify the attached SHA-256 files before installing.

@xcslys99 xcslys99 released this 12 Aug 16:12
fb63720

FootageFlow v0.7.3

FootageFlow v0.7.3 is a creator-workflow stability release for macOS and Windows. It keeps the v0.7.2 ten-language compound search and existing Download Manager unchanged while closing several validation and error-handling gaps.

Fixed

  • Clipboard link detection no longer repeats a URL already offered during the current app session.
  • Direct media with missing resolution metadata can use the editing-compatible MP4 workflow instead of being rejected by every height filter.
  • Vimeo OAuth 401 responses are explained as an access/login requirement. FootageFlow does not import cookies or bypass authentication.
  • Generic media failures no longer incorrectly identify every source as YouTube.

Hardened

  • Openverse explicitly requests mature=false and defensively removes any response item marked mature.
  • macOS and Windows release pipelines now perform real YouTube, Dailymotion and direct-media analysis, then create and validate a 10-second editing-compatible MP4 with source sidecars. A hosted-runner YouTube access block must be classified correctly and is never bypassed.

Validation

  • 44 offline Swift tests.
  • macOS real creator workflow: 12/12 checks passed, including bundled tools, three source analyses, 10-second duration, MP4/H.264/yuv420p/AAC, fast-start, and both sidecars.
  • Windows 11 x64 release gate: shared core, WPF, real creator workflow, packaging, installer, clean install, startup, uninstall, and checksums.

Platforms

  • macOS 15+ on Apple Silicon
  • Windows 11 x64

The macOS app is Ad Hoc signed and not notarized. The Windows installer is not code-signed. Verify the attached SHA-256 files before installing.

FootageFlow v0.7.2

@xcslys99 xcslys99 released this 12 Aug 13:16

FootageFlow v0.7.2

FootageFlow v0.7.2 fixes compound-topic searches such as 广州美食 and adds one shared ten-language search plan to macOS and Windows.

What's new

  • Every search now creates a complete compound query in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, German, French, and Russian.
  • The input language is preferred first, followed by the interface language, English, and the remaining languages.
  • The search editor shows input-language and English queries by default. View all languages exposes every query for editing or disabling.
  • Input-language and English visual expansions remain bounded; a complete plan never exceeds 14 queries.
  • Search waves respect a 12-request global limit, two requests per official/public Provider, and one request per direct/tool Provider.

Fixed

  • 广州美食 no longer becomes a zero-result search when Apple Translation suggests Guangzhou delicacies.
  • Translation and expansion phrases can retrieve candidates but cannot add mandatory concepts to the user's original intent.
  • Guangzhou/Canton/Cantonese, cuisine, gastronomy, dim sum, yum cha, morning tea, Cantonese dishes, seafood, and street-food vocabulary is recognized across the supported languages.
  • One Provider's 403, 429, timeout, or temporary block remains isolated from all successful sources.

Validation

  • 43 offline unit and fixture tests passed.
  • macOS Ad Hoc signature, binary privacy scan, offline self-test (90 checks), and real public-provider smoke test passed.
  • A real 广州美食 run retrieved 323 candidates. The old Provider order measured 7 relevant items in its Top 20; Balanced ranking measured 20/20.
  • Windows 11 x64 is built, installed, launched, tested, uninstalled, and packaged on the clean GitHub Actions Windows runner.

Platforms

  • macOS 15+ on Apple Silicon
  • Windows 11 x64

The macOS app is Ad Hoc signed and not notarized. The Windows installer is not code-signed. Check the attached SHA-256 files before installing.

@xcslys99 xcslys99 released this 12 Aug 11:09
2ea8b5b

FootageFlow v0.7.1

FootageFlow v0.7.1 fixes compound-query relevance on macOS and Windows.

What changed

  • Added two-stage retrieval: broad Provider candidate discovery followed by shared local relevance ranking
  • Added concept-group coverage so a Balanced 台湾美食 search must cover both Taiwan and food concepts
  • Added weighted title, tags, category, description, creator/channel, Provider, and matched-query signals
  • Added Precise, Balanced, and Broad modes; Balanced is the default
  • Added usable Provider metadata from PeerTube/SepiaSearch, Internet Archive, Pixabay, and Wikimedia to the ranker
  • Added all ten interface-language translations for the new mode control

Validation

  • 38 cross-platform shared tests pass locally, including a fixed Precision@20 relevance suite
  • The fixed 台湾美食 Top 20 is 20/20 relevant while retaining non-exact titles such as Taipei beef noodle soup
  • A real public-provider run retrieved 122 candidates. The old Provider order contained only 2 judged-relevant items in its Top 20; Balanced returned 14 results and all 14 passed the relevance review.
  • A full installed-app GUI search returned 35 real results; its first 20 were manually reviewed and all 20 were relevant to both Taiwan and food.
  • The Windows shared Core Host exposes the same rankAssets behavior used by macOS; clean Windows packaging and GUI tests run in GitHub Actions

Install

  • macOS 15+ Apple Silicon: open the DMG and drag FootageFlow to Applications
  • Windows 11 x64: run the installer

The macOS build is Ad Hoc signed and not notarized. The Windows installer is not code-signed. Verify the attached SHA-256 checksum before installation.

FootageFlow v0.7.0

Choose a tag to compare

@xcslys99 xcslys99 released this 12 Aug 09:17
b95be4d

FootageFlow v0.7.0

FootageFlow v0.7.0 adds an optional, notification-only software update experience to macOS and Windows.

What's new

  • FootageFlow checks the latest official GitHub Release once when the app starts.
  • When a newer version exists, the app shows the current and latest versions, publication date, release title, and full release notes.
  • View Update opens this repository's official GitHub Release page.
  • Remind Later defers that same release for 24 hours. A still newer release can be shown immediately.
  • Settings → Software Updates → Check for Updates provides a manual check.
  • Offline, timeout, rate-limit, and unavailable states use readable localized messages in all ten UI languages.
  • macOS and Windows share release parsing, semantic version comparison, official-link validation, and reminder rules.

Safety and privacy

FootageFlow does not force, silently download, or automatically install an update. The startup check sends only the current app version and normal HTTPS request metadata to GitHub's public Releases API. It does not include credentials, searches, projects, downloads, clipboard contents, or local paths.

Important compatibility note

FootageFlow v0.6.0 and earlier do not contain an update checker, so they cannot receive this notification retroactively. Install v0.7.0 manually once; future official releases can then be detected in the app.

Supported platforms

  • macOS 15+ on Apple Silicon
  • Windows 11 x64

The macOS build is Ad Hoc signed and not notarized. The Windows installer is not code-signed. Verify downloads using the SHA-256 files attached to the official Release.

FootageFlow v0.6.0 — Creator Workflow Update

@xcslys99 xcslys99 released this 12 Aug 06:48
d687a3f

Important

This release is outdated and cannot notify you about newer versions. Install the latest FootageFlow release manually once from https://github.com/xcslys99/FootageFlow/releases/latest. Versions v0.7.0 and later include the in-app update checker. FootageFlow never forces an update.

FootageFlow v0.6.0 — Creator Workflow Update

FootageFlow v0.6.0 adds creator-oriented search and output tools to both supported desktop editions without replacing the existing search, project, or download workflows.

Added

  • Download a full public media item or a validated start/end clip through the existing Link Downloader and Download Manager.
  • Rule-based Smart Search Expansion with up to five visible, editable queries and provider-specific request budgets. No paid AI API is required.
  • Original, editing-compatible H.264/AAC MP4, and M4A audio output presets.
  • Optional local clipboard media-link detection, disabled by default and active only while FootageFlow is in the foreground.
  • Openverse image/audio search with pagination and item-specific rights and attribution metadata.
  • Dailymotion public video discovery with pagination and Open Original behavior.

Improved

  • Output preset and clip-time metadata are retained in download rows, history, filenames, and both source sidecars.
  • The bundled yt-dlp workflow now includes pinned FFmpeg/FFprobe tools for section downloads, stream merging, audio extraction, and verified editing-compatible output.
  • Search query coverage, cross-query de-duplication, and provider failure isolation.
  • macOS and Windows creator-workflow parity in all ten interface languages.

Supported platforms

  • macOS 15 or later, Apple Silicon (arm64)
  • Windows 11 x64

Windows 10 and Intel Mac have not completed release validation and are not declared supported.

Installation

  • macOS: FootageFlow-0.6.0-macOS-arm64.dmg
  • Windows: FootageFlow-Setup-0.6.0-Windows-x64.exe
  • Optional portable Windows package: FootageFlow-0.6.0-Windows-x64-portable.zip

Verify each download with its adjacent .sha256 file. The macOS build is Ad Hoc signed and not notarized. The Windows installer is not code-signed, so SmartScreen may show an unrecognized-app warning.

Safety and limitations

Link analysis and downloading are best-effort. Availability depends on the source, media item, permissions, authentication requirements, regional restrictions, rate limits, and platform changes. FootageFlow does not import browser cookies, bypass DRM or sign-in, unlock private/member/paid content, or promise that every link is downloadable.

Dailymotion is primarily a discovery provider. A Dailymotion URL can separately be sent to Link Downloader for a best-effort attempt. Openverse rights labels come from item metadata and must still be checked on the original page before reuse.

Clipboard detection is optional, disabled by default, local-only, and never uploads or logs clipboard content.

Checksums

SHA-256 files are generated beside each release artifact during the verified release build. The final values are attached to the GitHub Release after the macOS and Windows release-candidate checks pass.

FootageFlow v0.5.0 — Search Expansion and Link Downloader

8ed3cc0

Important

This release is outdated and cannot notify you about newer versions. Install the latest FootageFlow release manually once from https://github.com/xcslys99/FootageFlow/releases/latest. Versions v0.7.0 and later include the in-app update checker. FootageFlow never forces an update.

FootageFlow v0.5.0 — Search Expansion and Link Downloader

Added

  • Pagination and Load More across supported providers
  • PeerTube / SepiaSearch, Videvo, Videezy, Mixkit, Coverr, and Vimeo discovery
  • Link Downloader for one or more public media URLs
  • Best Quality, source-available 1080p/720p/480p, Audio Only, and source-available subtitles
  • Feedback & Community with safe GitHub Issue, Discussions, repository, and release links

Supported platforms

  • macOS 15 or later on Apple Silicon
  • Windows 11 x64

Link download boundaries

Download availability depends on the source website, individual media, access permissions, and platform changes. FootageFlow does not import browser cookies, bypass DRM or sign-in, access private videos, or unlock paid/member content. Link analysis rejects embedded credentials, sensitive query parameters, and local/private-network addresses; DRM-marked formats are excluded. Users must follow source terms, copyright rules, and applicable law.

Known limitations

  • Videvo, Videezy, and Mixkit open official search rather than scraping result pages.
  • Vimeo is discovery-only by default.
  • yt-dlp interoperability is best-effort and can change upstream.
  • FootageFlow does not bundle FFmpeg, so separate-stream merging and subtitle embedding are not guaranteed.
  • The macOS build is Ad Hoc signed and not notarized; the Windows installer is not code-signed.

Checksums

Every release artifact has an adjacent portable SHA-256 checksum.
