Getting Started

The fastest way to try CORE MDM: install the prebuilt app, sign in, and manage it from the console. For full control, also do Device Owner Setup.

Requirements

  • An Android device or emulator running Android 8.0+ (API 26+)
  • A Google/Firebase account that is an owner in the project (to sign in on both the device and the console)

1. Install the app

  1. Download app-release.apk from the latest release.
  2. Install it:
    • On the device: open the APK and allow install from your browser/files app, or
    • Over USB: adb install -r app-release.apk

Signing note: releases v0.3.1 and later are signed with the same permanent key and install over each other. If you have a build older than v0.3.1 installed, uninstall it first. See Releases and Signing.

2. Sign in

Open CORE MDM on the device and sign in with your Firebase account — email/password or Continue with Google.

The app automatically:

  • Enrolls the device in Firestore under your account
  • Starts MdmCommandService to listen for commands
  • Prompts you to set an in-app PIN (see PIN and Security)

3. Open the console

Go to https://coremdm.web.app, click Manage (the console is at /console.html), and sign in with the same account. Your device appears in the grid within a few seconds, showing online. Click Manage to open its control panel — see the Web Console Guide.

4. Try it

From the device's Commands tab, press Lock Screen. The device locks within a second or two. You'll also see the command appear briefly under Pending with a Cancel button.

What works without Device Owner

Right after install you're in Device Admin mode, which already supports: Lock, Wipe, Alarm, rename, online status, the command queue, and the installed-app inventory. To unlock app hiding, enforced PIN length, reboot, kiosk, and most restrictions, continue to Device Owner Setup.

Troubleshooting install

  • "App not installed" / "conflicts with existing package": an older build with a different signing key is present — uninstall it first.
  • Google Sign-In says "no credentials": usually no Google account on the device or no internet; use email/password, or add a Google account. See Troubleshooting.
  • Play Protect blocks it: tap More details → Install anyway (expected for apps outside the Play Store).
