Protocol: Shelly (Gen1, Gen2 Plus/Pro, Gen3, BLU)

Shelly (manufactured by Allterco Robotics / Shelly Group) is a premier European line of smart relays, power meters, and environmental sensors.

  • Manufacturer: Shelly Group
  • HomeNode Modules: modules/shelly (Wi-Fi/LAN RPC) & modules/bthome (Shelly BLU)
  • Transport:
    • Gen2/Gen3/Pro: WebSocket & HTTP RPC over JSON (Port 80, path /rpc)
    • Gen1: CoAP (CoIOT) multicast and HTTP REST
    • Shelly BLU: Bluetooth Low Energy using the BTHome Protocol
    • MQTT: Standard MQTT topic schema for local brokers

1. Shelly Generation Generations

Generation Platform Protocols Example Hardware
Gen 1 ESP8266 CoAP (CoIOT), HTTP REST, MQTT Shelly 1, Shelly 2.5, Shelly Plug
Gen 2 (Plus / Pro) ESP32 WebSocket RPC, HTTP RPC, mDNS, BLE gateway Shelly Plus 1PM, Shelly Pro 3EM, Pro 4PM
Gen 3 ESP-Shelly-C38F (8MB) RPC, Matter ready, BLE gateway, Zigbee bridgeable Shelly 1 Gen3, Shelly 1PM Gen3
Shelly BLU Nordic nRF BTHome BLE Advertisements Shelly BLU Button 1, BLU Door/Window, BLU Motion

2. High-Precision Power Measurement: Shelly Pro 3EM

HomeNode Server natively integrates Shelly Pro 3EM (DIN-rail 3-phase energy meter):

  • Queries /rpc/EM.GetStatus?id=0 and /rpc/EMData.GetStatus?id=0 every 2.5 seconds.
  • Computes real-time 3-phase active power ($W$), apparent power ($VA$), current ($A$), voltage ($V$), and power factor ($PF$).
  • Supplies live grid feed-in and consumption to the HomeNode Energy Dashboard.
