Fjern v0.2.1

This release improves RDP and VNC responsiveness, especially during scrolling
and scaled/fullscreen sessions, and prepares the binary package for AUR submission.

  • RDP: independent bounded writes, row-aware snapshots, bitmap burst coalescing
and replacement of stale queued images.
  • H.264/AVC420: convert changed regions directly into persistent surfaces and
avoid extra GFX payload copies while preserving reference-frame decoding.
  • VNC: faster tile processing, ZRLE decoding, CopyRect and damage-aware scaling.
  • Wayland: mapped frame submission and scroll accumulation that preserves
batched movement and the final touchpad delta.
  • Packaging: fjern-bin provides the unchanged fjern command. Archives include
third-party license notices and Rust standard-library attribution.

Download the Linux x86_64 archive and its .sha256 file below. Verify with:

sha256sum --check fjern-v0.2.1-x86_64-linux.tar.gz.sha256

For Arch installation, use the updated recipe on the repository's main branch
in packaging/arch. It is not yet submitted to AUR or an official Arch repository.
The release is dynamically linked; runtime dependencies are listed in the recipe.

Fjern remains early-development software. See docs/platform-validation.md
and docs/h264.md for tested configurations and remaining limitations.

Fjern v0.2.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 10 Sep 14:25

LinRDP has been renamed to Fjern. The executable and application crate are now named fjern; the protocol crate intentionally remains linrdp-proto.

Existing users are migrated automatically on first startup: valid profiles.json and known_hosts.json files are imported from ~/.config/linrdp when ~/.config/fjern does not already exist. The legacy directory is left untouched, and existing Fjern state always wins.

Highlights:

  • Native Linux RDP and VNC client for Wayland
  • Validated against Windows RDP and WayVNC on Omarchy/Hyprland
  • Dynamic RDP resolution and correct local VNC scaling/input mapping
  • Keyboard-first TUI with arrow-key navigation
  • Deterministic Linux bundle and Arch-ready package metadata

Download the x86_64 Linux archive and verify it with the accompanying SHA-256 file.

LinRDP v0.1.0

@zeq0r zeq0r released this 09 Sep 20:28

LinRDP v0.1.0 is the first development release of the Omarchy-first Linux client for RDP and VNC.

Highlights

  • Native RDP and VNC connection profiles through an interactive terminal UI
  • Dynamic RDP resolution and window-filling VNC scaling
  • Experimental RDP Graphics Pipeline with AVC420/H.264 support
  • Bidirectional clipboard text for RDP and VNC
  • RDP file clipboard transfer in both directions
  • VNC keyboard capture for remote Super-based shortcuts on Hyprland
  • VeNCrypt authentication and remembered VNC certificate approval
  • 32-bit RDP desktop rendering with font smoothing and desktop composition
  • WayVNC-focused cursor, pointer, scrolling, and resize behavior

Omarchy and WayVNC

LinRDP is developed and tested with Omarchy Linux as its primary desktop target. When starting WayVNC, omit --render-cursor so the remote host cursor is not composited into the framebuffer.

Install

Extract the archive and install the binary:

tar -xzf linrdp-v0.1.0-x86_64-linux.tar.gz
install -Dm755 linrdp-v0.1.0-x86_64-linux/linrdp ~/.local/bin/linrdp
install -Dm644 linrdp-v0.1.0-x86_64-linux/linrdp.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/linrdp.desktop

This is an early development release. RDP currently supports one monitor, AVC420 decoding is software-based, and VNC file transfer is not standardized or included yet.
