Privacy Policy for Pulse

Last Updated: February 1, 2026

Introduction

Pulse ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how your personal information is collected, used, and disclosed by Pulse. This Privacy Policy applies to our mobile application and its associated services (collectively, our "Service").

By accessing or using our Service, you signify that you have read, understood, and agree to our collection, storage, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service.

Information We Collect

1. Health and Activity Data

To provide the core functionality of Pulse—monitoring your wellness status and alerting your trusted circle—we access specific data types from your device, subject to your explicit permission:

  • Apple HealthKit Data: We read data regarding your steps, heart rate, and workouts to determine your activity levels. This data is processed locally on your device and is not sold to third parties.
  • Motion & Fitness: We use motion data to detect device movement, which helps update your activity status (e.g., "Active" vs. "Idle").
  • System Activity: We monitor generic system interactions (like screen unlocks) to infer activity status.

2. User User-Provided Information

  • Profile Information: When you set up your profile, we collect your display name and avatar (emoji).
  • My Circle (Friends/Family): We store the connections you make with other users to enable status sharing and notifications.

3. Device Permissions

  • Camera: We use the camera only to scan QR codes for adding new connections to your circle. We do not save or transmit images/video.
  • Notifications: We ask for permission to send you notifications regarding your friends' status (e.g., inactivity alerts) and reminders for your own check-ins.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Functionality: To calculate your "Activity Status" (Active, Idle, or Needs Check) and share ONLY that status with the specific friends/family you have explicitly added to your Circle.
  • Alerts: To notify your trusted contacts if your activity drops below the threshold you set (indicating a potential wellness concern).
  • Syncing: To sync your profile and connection data across your Apple devices using iCloud (CloudKit).

Data Storage and Security

iCloud (CloudKit)

Pulse is designed with privacy as a priority. We rely on Apple's CloudKit for data storage.

  • Private Database: Your health data and detailed activity logs are processed locally or stored in your private iCloud container, which means we (the developers) generally do not have direct access to your raw personal data.
  • Shared Database: Only the necessary "Status" information (e.g., "Active", "Last Active: 2 hours ago") is shared to the CloudKit Shared Database so your friends can see it.

We do not maintain a separate proprietary server base for storing your personal health data. Your data lives on your device and in your personal iCloud account.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

  • No Third-Party Sales: We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal identification information or HealthKit data to third parties.
  • With Your Circle: Your activity status is shared strictly with the other Pulse users you have explicitly invited and accepted as connections.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information where required to do so by law or subpoena.

Your Choices and Control

  • Permissions: You can revoke access to HealthKit, Motion, Camera, or Notifications at any time through your device's Settings app. Note that this may limit the app's ability to function.
  • Data Deletion: You can delete your account and associated data directly within the Pulse app. Since data is stored in iCloud, you can also manage your data through your iCloud storage settings.

Children's Privacy

Pulse is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
