plan-progress 1.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@zycck zycck released this 14 Oct 21:43
60f4835

The first stable release of plan-progress. It adds a settings window, a tokens-per-second figure in the footer and updates from inside Claude Code, and auto-close is now off by default, so finished bars no longer leave on their own. It also fixes a long list of bugs found in four audits and in live runs in the desktop app and a real terminal.

Requires Claude Code 2.1.295 or newer. Tested with 2.1.295.

New

  • Settings window. Click ⚙ next to the speed figure in the footer (desktop app and fullscreen terminal), or run /plan-progress-settings anywhere. The window has six settings and the mod's version, in three sections:

    • Appearance: Effects and Speed.
    • Behavior: Auto-close, Stays for (10 / 30 / 60 s) and Sounds.
    • About: Check for updates and Version.

Speed hides the footer figure. Sounds turns off the chimes, which could not be turned off before. The window speaks the language set in /config, else the app's, else the system's (35 languages). It works with the keyboard (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Esc), and also with the mouse in the desktop app and the fullscreen terminal. When the window is narrow in the terminal, as when it is docked beside the transcript, each description moves to a row of its own under its name, which leaves room for the names and switches.

  • ⚡ N tok/s in the footer replaces the Progress button. It shows how fast the main conversation writes: bright while Claude writes, dim while it thinks, waits or has finished. The figure is an average over the last minute of writing, so one short burst does not swing it. Subagents are not counted. It also shows in the classic (non-fullscreen) terminal.

  • Updates from the settings window. Press the version to look for a newer release; Update installs it and reloads the mod in place, or asks for a restart if the reload does not take. Once every 6 hours the mod also checks by itself and marks the ⚙ in the footer with 🔹 (● in the fullscreen terminal) when a new version is out; Later hides the mark until a newer one. Each check is one request to the GitHub API (api.github.com/repos/zycck/claude-mods/releases) with no account or session data. Check for updates in the window, or CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_NONESSENTIAL_TRAFFIC, turns the check every 6 hours off; pressing the version still checks. A copy installed from a folder is not checked. Releases after 1.0.0 are the first it can offer.

  • twinkle option (#23): turns off the flow and twinkle of the bar fill and the twinkle of the agent rows. Clocks, glides and status dots still move. It is also Effects in the settings window.

  • The pill names its stage and step, split by the mark it stands on: a bar at a stage's first step, a dot after it (Stage │ Step 1/3 / Stage • Step 2/3 in the terminal). The stage it names is always the one the pill stands in, even when steps are closed out of order.

  • In the desktop app the bar fill flows towards the start, like the effort slider in Claude Code, at half speed while the bar waits, has failed or is done. In the terminal it twinkles as before.

  • Missing tool is explained (#22). If the plan_progress tool never reaches the session (an antivirus web filter or a proxy breaking 127.0.0.1), the mod says why and what to do. It says it once, as a transcript line and a toast. It also stops asking Claude for bars it cannot send.

Changed

  • Claude Code 2.1.295 or newer is required (was 2.1.286). On older versions the settings window can stay empty (seen in the terminal on 2.1.286), and before 2.1.286 no bars appear at all.
  • Auto-close is off by default. A finished bar stays until you close it. /plan-progress-autoclose or the settings window turns auto-close on, and doneBarSeconds applies then. If you already turned auto-close off, it stays off.
  • The pill no longer counts agents. A folded bar no longer says 2 running in the app, and a bar with agents no longer ends in · 1/2 in the terminal. /progress-agents, or the fold button next to a bar's ✕, folds or shows the agent rows. The Agents bar still says N running.
  • In the desktop app, hovering a mark ahead of the pill shows what starts there, not what ends there. A mark you passed still shows what finished there and how long it took.
  • The marks on the track are easier to see, in the app and in the terminal: the ones ahead of the pill stand out more, and in a light theme the ones you passed no longer fade into the fill.
  • A blank row separates the bars from other plugins' rows below them (#21, thanks @writerofcode1). It appears only when something is drawn there.
  • The Progress button is gone from the footer (see ⚡ tok/s above). /progress still shows or hides the bars.

Fixed

  • The pill jumped back and forth on finishing a step and on redraws.
  • The hover clock on the pill disappeared under a still mouse whenever the mod redrew. It is now shown on hover anywhere on the track. Tips over the marks can still disappear under a still mouse when the bars redraw; move the mouse to bring them back.
  • Long clocks such as 1h 21m lost their last letter.
  • Tips and the pill no longer run past their background or past the bar.
  • A closed or cleared bar no longer comes back after a reload.
  • /resume inside a running Claude Code now brings back that conversation's bars. Before, they were erased, and the bars of the conversation you left could be erased too. With more than 20 sessions saved, the one dropped is the one left alone longest, not one you just worked in.
  • A bar marked failed or waiting with all its steps closed no longer turns green, with the success sound, when the turn or an agent ends.
  • Questions:
    • A question at the end of a turn no longer turns a second bar yellow or plays the sound again.
    • A question that ends in ? or ؟, in bold or in code, or one asked while a background task runs, now turns the bar yellow.
    • When Claude has set a bar waiting and then asks you in the question window, or shows a plan to approve, the sound plays once, not twice, and the bar no longer stays yellow after you answer.
    • An answer sent from Remote Control or the SDK also clears the waiting bar.
    • A question marks the task's bar, never the Agents bar.
  • Agent rows:
    • Twinkling dots no longer spill past the rounded ends.
    • A resumed agent or teammate gets its row back.
    • An agent row whose end never reaches the mod, such as a teammate in a terminal pane of its own, now closes when Claude Code's list of agents shows it finished.
    • A new task under a finished bar starts without the old rows.
    • A new batch restarts the Agents bar's clock, and a grandchild agent sits under its parent.
    • An agent using an MCP tool shows the tool's own name (browser_take_screenshot), not mcp__plugin_…. In the app a long tool name no longer runs over the agent's name, and a name with a bracket in it is no longer greyed out from the bracket on.
    • Dated model ids read as sonnet 4, not sonnet 4.20250514.
  • The Agents bar now leaves with auto-close, as a finished task bar does (thanks to @KyongSik-Yoon for the report and test in #24).
  • Plans:
    • In plan mode, writing the plan file no longer counts as work, so the mod no longer blocks it or asks for a bar while Claude plans.
    • A new task under a finished bar's id, or a new plan approved in plan mode after the last one finished, starts from its first step on its own clock. Before, steps named like the last task's were already done and the clock counted from the last task. A finished plan sent again without statuses starts a new run too; sent with a step to redo, it keeps its run.
    • A code block in a plan-mode plan stays code: its # comments no longer become the bar's title or stages, and its lines are not taken as steps.
    • Steps written as numbered headings with prose under them (### 1. Add …) are now the bar's steps. Before, they were dropped, and the bar started on the plan's other lists, such as the files to change.
    • Moving on with next and an active step further ahead no longer marks the step right after the current one done.
    • A subagent's or teammate's plan no longer takes over the main conversation's bar.
    • A bar id made only of emoji or punctuation no longer moves or replaces the plan-mode bar.
  • In the app, a screen reader now hears when a bar is waiting for your answer or has failed, and at which step.
  • Emoji are no longer cut in half () when labels are shortened. Control characters in titles are removed.
  • A store that cannot be read at the start of a session no longer stops auto-close and the mod's commands for the rest of that session. While it stays unreadable, nothing is saved: bars and the choices made in the settings window last only until the session ends, and the update check asks GitHub every 30 minutes instead of every 6 hours.
  • A call to the bar id reel with a note no longer starts a hidden demo that cleared every bar and wrote a file at the path in the note.
  • Terminal:
    • Rows no longer overflow on a very narrow terminal (under about 33 columns).
    • The bar is redrawn only when something on it changes.
    • The bar no longer slides back when the terminal gets narrower during a turn.
    • When the terminal follows a light system appearance (the auto theme on a Mac or a Linux desktop) or a light Omarchy theme, a session's first bar no longer flashes dark.

Pull requests and their authors

This is the first GitHub release of plan-progress, so it lists every pull request so far. Thanks to everyone who sent one.
