Export and Import
Back up a device, move it to another Home Assistant install, or copy a single program. Everything is under Advanced > Diagnostics > Export / Import and needs a Home Assistant administrator. One file holds one device.
Exports are compact: about 2 MB for a large install.
Press Quick export everything. The file holds all of the device's data: programs, every cycle with its power trace, phase maps, groups, settings, ML models and lifetime totals. Take one before an experiment.
Press Export (choose data) and tick what to include:
| Category | Pick |
|---|---|
| Profiles (programs) | per program |
| Cycles (run history) | per cycle, grouped by program |
| Reference cycles (imported) (from the store) | per cycle |
| Cycles found in imported power history | per cycle |
| Custom phases, Profile groups | on / off |
| Detection & matching settings, ML models | on / off |
| Feedback & review labels, Suggestions | on / off |
| Maintenance log, History & change logs, Lifetime totals | on / off |
A program exported without its cycles still matches. Phase ranges travel with their program. Detection & matching settings here means the thresholds only, without Off Delay, Minimum Off Gap or other plug timing; Quick export carries every setting.
- Press Import from JSON, load the file (or paste its JSON) and press Analyze file. Nothing changes yet.
- Tick what to import.
- Choose:
- How to combine: Merge (keep mine) adds items and loses nothing, or Replace selected wipes and refills only the ticked categories.
- Where should imported cycles go?: Reference (shape only) (default) helps matching but never counts in your statistics. Real history (counts in stats) is for moving an appliance to a new install.
- Name clashes (Merge only), per program: Import as copy (default, "Cotton 40" arrives as "Cotton 40 (imported)"), Keep mine or Overwrite.
- Press Import selected.
Good to know:
- An import never changes this device's power sensor, door sensor, switch or other linked entities. Set those on the target device yourself.
- A file from a different appliance type imports programs and cycles as reference data only. Settings, ML models, power-history cycles and real history are greyed out.
- HA diagnostics files work too (Settings > Devices & services > WashData > your device > Download diagnostics), so the file you attach to a bug report doubles as a transfer file.
Before a Replace selected import, an Overwrite of a program, or an import_config service
call, WashData saves a restore point. Undo last import (administrators) then puts the device's
programs, cycles and settings back as they were. Only the last import can be undone, and cycles
recorded since then are lost.
Both are administrator-only.
| Service | Does |
|---|---|
ha_washdata.export_config |
Writes the device's full export to path, or to /config/ha_washdata_export_<entry_id>.json if you give none. |
ha_washdata.import_config |
Replaces the device's data with the file at path, like a full restore. Can be undone in the panel. |
A path must be in a folder Home Assistant allows (allowlist_external_dirs). Avoid
/config/www: files there are public.
- Community-Store: share programs with other users instead of moving files.
- Panel-Walkthrough: where the Diagnostics tab sits.
