Our next deadline is 9,10 Nov. Oversight meeting

Issue 1: Guiding questions:

  1. What are your thoughts and experiences about team neuroscience and the U19? Some things would normally never happen - like the atlas project, which takes a collaborative process and significant infrastructure (hardware and coding); the modeling, which would normally never pass study sections that want "new" theory over understanding; and the brainstem FISH and brainstem 2P, which are high impact high risk. Other things could have been done on the single laboratory versus pairwisecollaboration.
  2. How do you think this approach is shaping the next generation of scientists? Need to prep our junior scholars.
  3. Is there something that could be done across the U19 consortium of all awards that would be particularly useful for early career members of these programs? Neuroglancer - enhanced for light level - is a means to bring scientific discussion across groups.

Issue 2: What does our software offer Neuroscience?

Ability to combine and compare certain experimental data

  1. Preparing and combining sections into a 3-D array using landmarks based on with cytological markers.
  2. Tracing of synaptic projections.

Near-term Plan

  1. Obtaining data
  • Sexed matched pairs of complementary function. Priority is one sex matched pair.

1.a.

Pairings set #1 is Geneoglosis; Masseter; Phenic
Geneoglosis DK52 (F) - Done by Ed as of 26 Aug - Ch 1-3 HiRes ; need to verify overlays (Beth to make mtg w/Ed on 27 Aug - priority 1)
DK39 (M) - under Ed's resorting - soon to have Ch 2/3 HiRes; (Beth to make mtg w/Ed on 27 Aug)
Masseter DK54 (F) - need to correct for 6 µm sections; Beth and Hannah and David need to reasign sections; need to check Ch 2/3 HIRes - priority 2
DK43 (M) - need to correct for "squished" side + add Ch 2/3 HIRes (Beth to make mtg w/Ed on 27 Aug)

1.b.

Pairings set #2 is Vibrissa Intrinsic; Vibrissa (mystacial) Extrinsic.
Intrinsic DK51 (F)
Set #2 is NOT for the current meeting

  1. Align section to section
  2. In short term - align atlas manually
  3. Display data using Neuroglancer
  4. Access, display, and annotate puncta (labeled neurons)
  5. Assign each puncta an (x,y,z), and display in real units as a ball (same formal as with landmarks)

Other tasks

  1. Simultaneous share and evaluate data across sites with Neuroglancer
  2. Add the shell of the brain
