Welcome to the official documentation and technical hub for LimonOS — a custom, monolithic 64-bit operating system kernel developed from scratch primarily in C.
LimonOS is an independent hobby operating system designed to explore low-level systems programming, custom kernel design, graphical interface rendering, and network integration.
- Custom Kernel: Built from the ground up (not Linux, not Unix-derived).
- Bootloader Integration: Uses Limine for x86_64 boot and handoff.
- Built-in Graphics & UI: Framebuffer-based desktop environment with basic windowing and interactive terminal.
- Networking Stack: Integrated TCP/IP capabilities with HTTP/TLS support and custom CLI clients.
-
AI Terminal Integration: Built-in command line interface powered by OpenRouter API (
aikey/ai).
