  • Lit Review Writing Schedule

  • Is the lit review under the JASIST submission category, AIS Reviews?

  • Literature Review outline/draft: Finish Background and History sections by end of week. Outline of major topics to be covered in lit review are included. Reading a couple more seminal articles to confirm if those categories are broad and inclusive enough. Ready for comments, suggestions, review, etc.!

  • Reviewing through seminal articles' citation list, adding to different major categories of OSH within lit review. Feels like I'm in an author loop of French and German OSH researchers, besides Ackerman, OSHWA--is that an issue?

  • Where does open innovation or product development process (OSPD) fit into the conversation?

    • Bonvoison (2018, 2020) makes me think there needs to be a section on the product development process, since they found gaps in Balka, Raasch, & Herstatt (2009), who also have a number of OSH-related articles out (similar to Bonvoison's article count). Need to read Boujut (2019) for a third-party pov - product structure/product development process as a main category to review? This impacts documenation and community cooperation
    • "The influence of product structure on the product development process is of importance considering that the very concept of open source is generally interpreted as a product development model, and not only as an intellectual property management scheme" (Bonvoison, 2020)

  • Research

    • another database of OH projects: The Open Hardware Observatory (OHO). Not sure how we can leverage this but maybe a comparison or add to the ventilator dataset
    • think about changing date range to start as far back as 1997 or 2007 as those were the years Bruce Perens started and restarted Open Hardware certification website. 2007-2008, dubbed OSHWA as the main ceritification source.
    • read Li, et al. (2019) - good example of research study that interviewed OH project leaders and how they managed their open crowdsourcing forums to engage engineers withcustomers/users. This will could be comparable to interviewing documentors for the COVID-19 OSH projects.
    • check out https://www.wevolver.com/ - knowledge base made "to empower people to create and innovate by providing access to engineering knowledge". Content comes from "various sources: universities, tech companies, individual community members, and our editorial team all contribute content."
