DORA
DORA is the 4-way DHCP handshake
DHCP operates at the Application Layer 7 (OSI model) & uses layers 2-3 (Data-link & Network)
| Letter | Name | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| D | Discover | client(device) broadcasts a message across the local network to find an available DHCP server |
| O | Offer | The DHCP server responds with an available IP address and lease duration. |
| R | Request | The client responds to confirm and accept the offered IP address |
| A | Acknowledge | The DHCP server finalizes the allocation and sends confirmation, allowing the client to use the IP address on the network |
