@BryanGross21 BryanGross21 released this 25 Oct 05:39

This game incorporates some new and exciting things to the Princess Quest minigame and the overall game. First, a custom processor and importer is used for all sound effects and music, you won't notice a difference but looking at the pipeline you will. Second, load into process quest either load using the pre-defined save or hit enter. Once in game control the same way you did in the last project except hitting escape this time will pause the game. To the left you will see a nifty tile map set representing the controls, you can even save and load from here. Hitting save will save the princess's current position, the items you've collected, and whether or not you have opened the door. This is done using json serializaiton in a new SaveLoadGamePQ class with a save and load method. Lastly rather than getting booted back to the game selection screen, a new "friend" awaits you through the door. To listen to what he has to say but your mouse cursor over his textbox and hit the left mouse button. After he is done talking he will boot you back to the game selection screen.

This version of the game introduces a new game that is in development (i.e. the level is just a test map currently but has most of the mechanics such as pick-ups, enemies, and opening doors with keys). The game starts now with a game selection screen, select which game you want to play with the arrow keys and hit e (you should just stick to princess quest but balloon world also implements some things from this assignment) or exit by selecting exit and hitting e. Once in Princess Quest, load into the test map hitting enter or exit by hitting escape on your keyboard, hitting escape leads you back to selection screen. Once in the test map you will notice that the princess uses an alpha blending technique and that she is holding a lantern that goes back and forth. The test map is split into quadrants. The quadrant you spawn at is just a color quadrant and is used to test how the blend affects the sprite with multiple colors. The top left quadrant is an item test, you can pick up a key for the door in the top right quadrant or a health upgrade. Collect these by walking over them. The top right quadrant houses the door and the way to go back to the title screen. Once you have the key, hit e while on the door this will open it then hit e again once it's open. The final quadrant features an enemy (he has a weird bug where the sprite doesn't draw for some reason after losing him in a chase). He will go back and forth until spotting the player after a certain distance he will then chase the player. Simply outrun him to make him lose interest. If he touches you, you take damage losing all your health results in being sent back to the menu. I hope to expand this game out with a more puzzle focus similar to a game like Zelda.

@BryanGross21 BryanGross21 released this 27 Sep 22:52

This game is to be included in the game seen in game project 0 and 1. It is a simple game that includes two screens, a menu and a game screen. When you boot up the game you will notice the option to start the game and exit the game. To start the game simply hit the "e" key on your keyboard this will bring you to the gameplay screen, alternatively you can quit by using the up or down arrow key to select exit and hit the same key. You will notice that a sound effect will play and after a second the game will either quit or enter the gameplay, in the background is some lovely music too. Once in the game proper there are three things to do. To control your character simply press space, you will have to press space to flap the child up and down. Pressing space will send him up and doing nothing will return him to the earth (luckily he gets caught on the top and lower bounds of the screen, don't need to worry about losing the child). Balloons will start to spawn or are already spawning (collect them). Your goal is to collect 55 of them, you will notice that every 10 balloons collected will result in the scene changing to night and then collecting 10 more will return you back to day. At 45 balloons, the music playing in the background changes to a distorted, perverted version of itself and the graphics are much more sinister. Collecting 55 balloons wins you the game, you then have a new option on the title screen to play an endless mode to collect as many balloons as you want, if the game bores you or you want to stop after reaching a new high score, you can hit escape while in the game to return to the main menu (your new score is reflected too).
