First Run Setup
After install + Plasma restart:
-
Right-click the desktop → Configure Desktop and Wallpaper…
-
In the Wallpaper Type dropdown choose Wallpaper Engine for KDE.
-
Open the Wallpapers tab inside the plugin's pane.
-
Set the steamlibrary path — the folder that contains the
steamapps/directory. On a default Steam install:~/.local/share/SteamThe plugin needs the parent of
steamapps, notsteamapps/itself, and notsteamapps/common/wallpaper_engine/. -
Wait a moment while the plugin scans your subscriptions.
-
Click a wallpaper thumbnail → Apply. Your desktop should switch to it.
Steam downloads Wallpaper Engine Workshop subscriptions into:
<steamlibrary>/steamapps/workshop/content/431960/
(431960 is the Wallpaper Engine Steam appid.) The plugin reads from there. If the directory is empty or missing, Steam hasn't downloaded any Workshop wallpapers yet — see Subscribing to wallpapers.
Whichever drive's library contains steamapps/common/wallpaper_engine/, point the plugin at that drive's library root. You can confirm Steam recognizes the library in Steam → Settings → Storage.
