Complete User Guide

This guide covers the public 0.6.10 release. Paid unlocks belong permanently to the player profile. Most modules begin enabled and can later be toggled. World-owner controls may disable purchases or automation without erasing progression.

Core backpack and menu

The backpack accepts ordinary items, including filled Shulker Boxes whose contents persist. Wear it in the off-hand. Use it in open air to open the Backpack Menu; use a deployed backpack to open storage. Sneak-use the deployed pack to recover it.

The menu contains Upgrade, Bulk Storage Roll, Dedicated Pockets, Organization & Security, Expedition & Recovery, Backpack Appearance, Explorer's Guidebook, Backpack Settings, and operator-only World Settings.

Storage reinforcement

The base pack has 27 slots. Each sequential reinforcement adds nine slots: Iron 36, Gold 45, Amethyst 54, Emerald 63, and Diamond 72. The final Netherite tier retains 72 slots while adding fire/lava protection. See Upgrade Cost Reference for every payment.

Bulk Storage Roll

Bulk is a separate tab equal to the current Main capacity and grows automatically with reinforcement. At maximum capacity, the pack provides 72 Main plus 72 Bulk slots. Bulk accepts any normal item manually. Normal automatic routing fills Main before Bulk; matching Stockpile filters prefer Bulk.

Sorting

Sorting condenses compatible items into full native stacks and organizes Main and Bulk separately when storage closes. It never rearranges dedicated pockets, filters, Camping storage, player inventory, or nearby containers. Disable automatic sorting when preserving a hand-arranged layout matters.

Dedicated pockets

The right rail contains twelve independently purchased, restricted pockets. Grey silhouettes identify accepted items and invalid items return safely. Standard pockets hold Spyglass, Compass/Recovery Compass, Brush, Boat/Raft, Lead, Saddle, Crafting Table, Furnace, Brewing Stand, and Smoker. Special pockets hold Elytra and Lantern/Copper Lantern/Soul Lantern. Pockets do not auto-equip or consume contents.

Magnet

With the backpack in the off-hand, Magnet pulls nearby ground items into a compact pile at the player's feet and then uses normal player-inventory pickup. If the inventory cannot accept a complete stack, the visible item follows at the feet instead of being deleted. Recently player-dropped items receive a short grace period.

Vacuum

Vacuum requires Magnet and uses the same safe attraction flow, but inserts exact stacks directly into the backpack. Ordinary items route Main then Bulk; active filter matches prefer Bulk. When storage cannot accept the exact remainder, it stays visible at the feet.

Stockpile and Bulk Filters

Stockpile requires Bulk and is a routing system, not separate virtual storage. Filter 1 opens with Stockpile; Filters 2–5 are purchased individually. Drag a real item stack onto an unlocked left-side filter slot: one sample remains and matching Main or Vacuum items receive Bulk priority. Remove the sample to clear it. Manual Bulk storage remains unrestricted.

Owner Lock

Enable Owner Lock in shared worlds to stop other players from opening or packing the deployed backpack. A world owner may optionally allow operator override. Locking does not make the pack indestructible or protect it from the void.

Death and permanent loss

On an ordinary death, an equipped backpack deploys at the death location as persistent storage; it is not a five-minute dropped item. Netherite Protection prevents fire and lava destruction. Void loss or permanent destruction removes the physical pack and all contents. Crafting a replacement restores permanent capacity, modules, cosmetics, filter unlocks, and settings, but the new backpack is empty.

Recovery Locator

Purchase the locator before death. After a recoverable ordinary death deploys the backpack, the owner receives a Recovery Compass that points to it and is deleted after recovery. No compass is issued for void death, failed deployment, or a missing target. A full respawn inventory places it safely at the player's feet.

Dye and Glow Stitching

Use a held backpack on a dyed-water cauldron to apply that leather color. Ordinary water washes it to natural leather. Natural leather and all sixteen dye families are supported. Glow Stitching adds a brighter emissive broken-stitch trim but does not generate world light. Cosmetics persist through carrying, placement, capacity migration, ordinary death, and recovery.

Bedroll and Camping compartment

The Bedroll unlock opens a Camping tab with restricted slots:

  • one reusable vanilla Bed, two Food slots, and Coal/Charcoal;
  • Book & Quill or Written Book, Water Bucket, Lava Bucket, and Campfire;
  • one separately labeled Campsite Kit pocket.

Withdraw and place the bed normally for genuine Minecraft sleeping, spawn-point, monster-distance, multiplayer-sleep-percentage, phantom-rest, and dimension rules. The one-use Straw Bed is not used.

Reusable Campsite Kit

The kit requires the Bedroll. Its 44 consumed wool blocks must all be one color, and that color becomes the permanent tent and bed color. The three consumed lanterns must all match each other and become the tent lighting; every vanilla lantern is accepted, including all four copper oxidation stages and their waxed forms. The Campfire, Soul Campfire, Comforting Campfire, Comforting Soul Campfire, Hearthfire Campfire, or Hearthfire Soul Campfire actually consumed determines the permanent tent hearth. Withdraw it from the Camping pocket and use it on the ground in a visibly open area. Only one campsite may be active per owner.

From 0.6.21 the camp checks every cell it would occupy before placing anything, so it can no longer overwrite a build. Grass, ferns, flowers, bushes, dead bush, leaves, petals, and snow layers are cleared as it deploys. Logs, solid blocks, liquids, and farmland or crops refuse the site and name the exact coordinate in the way, and every camp floor block must sit on solid ground so the camp cannot overhang a ledge. A refused site costs nothing: the kit is not consumed.

The authored camp includes a tall stepped A-frame, closed rear wall, reusable vanilla bed, native chest, two exterior lantern posts, rear hanging lantern, center entrance post, and a protected hearth two blocks in front. It is not an Abandoned Camp structure.

Other players cannot open the campsite chest and temporary campsite blocks cannot be harvested normally. To pack up, interact with the protected hearth; the chest does not need emptying first. The chest and everything inside it are archived to the owner and return inside the chest on the next deployment, the same way the standalone Andy's Portable Campsite add-on works. Nothing is moved into backpack storage and nothing is dropped on the ground. The blocks are removed and the owner-linked kit returns to its Camping pocket, with safe inventory/feet fallbacks. If the camp uses copper lanterns, the oxidation stage each one reached is remembered and restored the next time you deploy.

Andy's Comforting Campfires (0.1.10+) is optional. If it is installed and the kit's hearth is a Comforting Campfire or Hearthfire Campfire, the deployed hearth is registered with Comforting Campfires for Comfort healing, runes, and its crouch + interact status menu; unregistering happens automatically on pack-up. Without Comforting Campfires, the same hearth choice still deploys and packs up as an ordinary vanilla Campfire or Soul Campfire. Community Comfort tiers are not accepted.

Explorer's Guidebook

Use the backpack in open air and select Explorer's Guidebook to receive or update a signed native Bedrock guide. It explains costs, storage, modules, death rules, camping, and owner controls. Free an inventory slot if creation fails.

World-owner settings

Operators can open World Settings from the backpack menu or run /scriptevent andys_explorers:settings. Profiles include Default, Vanilla-Friendly, Adventure, Strict Survival, Builder, and Custom. Owners can control purchases, Magnet/Vacuum radii and intervals, capacity ceilings, death deployment, cross-dimensional routing, Owner Lock overrides, campsite deployment, and other automation.

Installation and support

Import the .mcaddon, activate its Behavior Pack, and verify the linked Resource Pack activates. Minecraft Bedrock 26.40+ is required. See Troubleshooting for common fixes.
