Soulbound Runes and Recipes

Off-hand requirement

A rune protects death only from the off-hand/shield slot. Holding it in the main hand or carrying it elsewhere does not qualify. This creates a real survival choice because the rune competes with shields, maps, totems, food, and other off-hand tools.

Rune tiers

Tier Color Successful graves Window when Timed Soulbinding is enabled Special rule
I Magenta 3 20 minutes Base protection
II Emerald green 6 40 minutes More uses and time
III Diamond cyan 9 60 minutes More uses and time
IV Purple Unlimited Unlimited Supports lava graves with a solid vault

Each tier is a separate item, so a lower tier cannot skip the upgrade chain. The lore shows tier, remaining uses, and the off-hand requirement.

The timer column matters only when an operator enables Timed Soulbinding. The default is unlimited recovery time for every tier.

Upgrade recipes

Every upgrade uses the preceding tier in the center and eight identical materials around it.

When a use is spent

One use is spent only after the add-on successfully stores and verifies the death inventory and commits the grave. The updated rune is placed inside the skeleton's off-hand storage slot and returns during recovery.

A failed grave transaction should not consume a use or deliberately remove the rune. A rune at zero uses cannot protect another death.

Recharging Tier I–III

  1. Obtain a full Amethyst Cluster item, normally by mining it with Silk Touch.
  2. Carry the cluster in the inventory.
  3. Hold a partially depleted Soulbound Rune I, II, or III in the main hand.
  4. Crouch and interact with a normal, chipped, or damaged Anvil.
  5. One cluster is consumed and one use is restored.

The ingredient is not an Amethyst Shard, Amethyst Block, Small Bud, Medium Bud, or Large Bud. A full rune refuses the exchange without consuming the cluster. Tier IV is unlimited and does not recharge.
