Eris

Eris is one of the most distant known dwarf planets in our solar system, far out in the scattered disc beyond Pluto. In Orrery, it's a fully landable dimension reachable by rocket.

What to expect on arrival

The sky

Eris has no atmosphere, so the sky is completely black with stars visible at all times. The Sun appears as a small, dim disc — at this distance, it's barely brighter than the brightest stars around it. Don't expect blue skies or clouds; there aren't any.

Gravity

Eris has roughly 8% of Earth's gravity. You'll notice:

  • Very high, slow jumps
  • Falling takes much longer than on Earth
  • Fall damage is greatly reduced — you can survive drops that would kill you on Earth, though very long falls can still hurt

Temperature and oxygen

Eris is extremely cold and has no breathable atmosphere. You'll need life support to survive for any length of time. See Survival tips for how to set up oxygen production.

Surface

The ground is covered in moon sand over stone. It's a barren, grey landscape — but a good one for spotting ore deposits and meteorite craters.

Meteorites

Applied Energistics 2 meteorites still generate on Eris, making it a good destination if you're hunting for AE2's signature crash sites. Other structures (villages, igloos, etc.) have been intentionally removed to keep the surface clean and alien-feeling.

Telescope

Eris is visible from the Telescope, both from other planets and from Eris itself (showing other bodies). If you're also interested in Pluto, note that its position in the Telescope was previously bugged — Orrery fixes this as a side effect of Eris's integration work.

Getting there

Eris is reached the same way as other Northstar destinations — via rocket, once you've researched and built the necessary rocket components. Check Northstar's own documentation/Ponder entries for general rocket-building guidance if you're new to that part of the mod.
