Survival Tips
Eris is hostile — no atmosphere, no oxygen, and extreme cold. Here's how to stay alive long enough to get something done.
Eris has no breathable atmosphere, so Northstar's Atmospheric Concentrator won't work here — it relies on an existing atmosphere to draw from. Instead, your oxygen has to come from electrolysis:
- Bring a water source
- Use electrolysis to split water into hydrogen and oxygen
- Pipe the oxygen into a sealed structure using an Oxygen Filler
- Maintain the sealed environment with an Oxygen Sealer
There's no water or ice on Eris, just bring your own.
Because Eris's gravity is so low, you can survive much longer falls than on Earth. Fall damage scales with gravity — a fall that would seriously hurt you on Earth might be completely safe on Eris. That said, very tall drops can still cause damage, so don't get overconfident around deep meteorite craters.
Eris is extremely cold. Bring appropriate cold-protection gear (per Northstar's temperature systems) before heading out, especially for extended surface exploration away from your base.
- Build your initial base near a meteorite crater — easy access to AE2 meteorite loot and a natural landmark for navigation
- Since weather doesn't occur on Eris, you won't need to worry about storms disrupting outdoor builds
- The dim sun means solar power output will be reduced compared to Earth or Mars — plan power generation accordingly
