@Dudiebug Dudiebug released this 20 Oct 02:33

CouchLiteOS v0.3.1-beta.1

A beta for 0.3.1. It lets you type into any app from your phone with one
controller shortcut, and puts 4K TVs that started in 1080p back in 4K.
Please report what goes wrong on
GitHub.

New

  • TYPE ON PHONE in any app. In a web browser, a web app or any other app,
hold Select (View / Share) and press Guide / PS. The on-screen
keyboard opens with a QR code: scan it with a phone on the same home network
(or open the address shown), type, and send. The text comes back into the
keyboard; choose TYPE or TYPE + ENTER to type it into the app.
B / Circle on the QR code closes it again.
  • Your choice of shortcut. Settings > CONTROLS > TYPE ON PHONE SHORTCUT:
HOLD SELECT, PRESS GUIDE (the default), HOLD START, PRESS GUIDE, or OFF.
During a Moonlight or chiaki-ng stream Guide still goes to the stream.
  • A TYPE ON PHONE key on the on-screen keyboard does the same from the
    keyboard you already opened.

Fixed

  • A 4K TV started in 1080p every time. Some 4K TVs ask for 1080p at
120 Hz. CouchLiteOS now picks the TV's full picture size at up to 60 Hz when
you have not chosen one yourself, and Settings > DISPLAY and the Setup
Wizard mark it as NATIVE. If you already picked 1080p, choose 3840x2160 in
Settings > DISPLAY > RESOLUTION. If the screen stays black after the change,
restart the box: it goes back to the earlier picture size and does not try
    again.
  • A TV that is slow to wake up no longer loses its picture size. When the
TV is not ready yet as CouchLiteOS starts, it now tries again for a few
seconds instead of staying in the TV's own mode.

Known limitations

  • The phone's text can only contain letters, numbers and the symbols on a US
keyboard. Other characters (accents, emoji) are left out, and the keyboard
    says so.

Updating

A box with Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE > UPDATE CHANNEL set to BETA gets this
beta from Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE. Any other box: write the ISO to a USB
stick, boot it, and choose Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE > UPDATE THE INSTALLED
SYSTEM. It keeps your settings and pairings.

CouchLiteOS v0.3.0

@Dudiebug Dudiebug released this 10 Oct 06:21

CouchLiteOS v0.3.0

v0.3.0 gives the box a TV interface with your games first, themes, and a way to
undo an update. The download is much smaller: you pick a web browser during
setup and it installs from the internet. Older installs, including MoonlightOS,
can now update from the USB stick and keep their settings.

New

  • A TV interface, PS3 style. The home screen is a row of categories
(POWER, SETTINGS, TV & VIDEO, GAMES and APPS) over a moving wave, with
sounds and soft background music. GAMES comes first, the most recently
played at the front, each with its cover, and the focused game's cover fills
the background. The top of the screen shows the paired gaming PC and whether
it is ONLINE, ASLEEP, NOT FOUND or has NO SUNSHINE running. Every Settings
page, the Setup Wizard, WHAT'S NEW and the on-screen keyboard are drawn in
    the same look. A
bar along the bottom always shows what each controller button and keyboard
key does, with the button symbols of the pad you hold (Xbox, PlayStation or
Nintendo). Small notices appear when a controller connects or disconnects,
its battery runs low, the gaming PC comes online or an update is ready.
Navigation sounds can be turned off in Settings > APPEARANCE > SOUNDS. After a
stream, Home comes back with the game you just played in focus.

  • Quick menu. Tap Guide / PS, or press Home on a keyboard, for VOLUME,
BRIGHTNESS (on PCs with a built-in screen), controller batteries, NETWORK,
running APPLICATIONS, HOME, SLEEP, RESTART and TURN OFF. B or Esc goes back
to the app you were in. During a Moonlight stream it also has STREAM PRESET
and SHOW STATS. Holding Select+Start (View+Menu) or L3+R3, or the keyboard
shortcut (Ctrl+Alt+H unless you changed it), opens ACTIVE APPLICATIONS as
before, and Guide still goes to the gaming PC while you stream.

  • Game covers. Covers come from Moonlight when it has them, and are
otherwise looked up by the game's name on Steam, or on SteamGridDB if you add
your own SteamGridDB key. Hold Y / Square (or F9) on a game for CHANGE
ARTWORK: pick another cover, RESET, or a plain TITLE CARD. Settings >
APPEARANCE > ARTWORK turns the lookup off (only game names are sent) and
    lists the UNMATCHED GAMES.

  • Per-game stream settings. Hold X / Triangle (or F10) on a game for STREAM
SETTINGS: PERFORMANCE, BALANCED, QUALITY, or CUSTOM resolution, frame rate,
bitrate and HDR, kept for that game alone and never above what your TV and
this PC can show. Games without their own settings stream as before.

  • Themes. Settings > APPEARANCE has five themes (MIDNIGHT, SLATE, DAYLIGHT,
HIGH CONTRAST and TERMINAL, the white-on-black look of 0.2.x) and eight accent
colours. The whole box, including the
    on-screen keyboard, changes colour at once. You can add your own theme file;
    see the theme guide.

  • Undo an update. Every update now saves the current system first. If the
new version misbehaves, Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE > RESTORE PREVIOUS VERSION
restarts the box and puts the saved version back, with the settings and
pairings it had then. If the box no longer starts, the boot menu has
CouchLiteOS: restore previous version (hold Shift, or press Esc on UEFI
PCs, while the box starts). One version is kept; the next update replaces it.
SOFTWARE UPDATE shows the SAVED VERSION, and has SAVE BEFORE UPDATE (ON or
OFF) and DELETE SAVED VERSION for small disks. The update from 0.2.x to 0.3.0
is saved too, so you can go back to 0.2.x.

  • Update an older install from the USB stick. Boot the 0.3.0 USB stick on a
box with 0.2.0 or MoonlightOS 0.1.x installed. Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE >
UPDATE THE INSTALLED SYSTEM (KEEPS PAIRINGS AND SETTINGS) updates it in place
    instead of erasing the disk.

  • Pick your web browser. Firefox and Google Chrome are no longer in the
download. The Setup Wizard has a WEB BROWSER step, and Settings >
APPLICATIONS > ADD A WEB BROWSER installs FIREFOX or GOOGLE CHROME from the
internet any time later. Web apps open in Google Chrome, or in Firefox if
that is the one you have.

  • LO-FI RADIO. A lo-fi music app in APPS: relaxed beats from
radio.dudiebug.net, full screen. It opens in the web browser, so it needs
Firefox or Google Chrome and an internet connection; without a browser, its
tile offers ADD A WEB BROWSER.

  • Moonlight in APPS. APPS has MOONLIGHT, which opens Moonlight's own list
of gaming PCs, and REMOTE DESKTOP. Wi-Fi and network are under SETTINGS >
    NETWORK.

  • Type on your phone. In a text field, press Select (View) or F2 and scan
the QR code with a phone on the same home network. Type on the phone, send,
then confirm on the TV. The code works once and runs out after 5 minutes.

  • Controllers. Settings > CONTROLLERS lists every connected pad as PLAYER 1,
2 and so on, with its battery. MOVE UP and MOVE DOWN set the order (and the
player lights, where the pad has them), IDENTIFY makes a pad rumble (and blink, where it has lights),
TEST shows its sticks, triggers and buttons live, and SWAP A/B and SWAP X/Y
suit Nintendo layouts in the CouchLiteOS menus. A stream still gets the pad
as it is, in Moonlight's own order.

  • The classic look stays. Settings > APPEARANCE > INTERFACE > CLASSIC
brings back the text menu of 0.2.x (TV goes back to the new one); the box
restarts the launcher into it at once. Pair it with THEME > TERMINAL for the
    old colours too.

  • Bluetooth headphones and a microphone. Settings > BLUETOOTH pairs
headphones and speakers; sound moves to them when they connect and back when
they disconnect. Settings > AUDIO picks the output and the microphone, tests
the microphone, and the classic interface shows MIC LIVE while an app is
    recording.

  • Battery. On a laptop or a PC with a battery, the top bar shows its charge,
a notice appears at 20, 10 and 5 percent, and Settings > SLEEP & SCREEN has
    BLANK SCREEN ON BATTERY.

  • Security fixes and app updates between releases. The box installs Debian
security fixes, and new Moonlight and chiaki-ng versions, by itself once a
day, never while you stream. Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE shows the last result,
has INSTALL SECURITY FIXES AND APP UPDATES NOW, turns either one off, and has
ROLL BACK for an app that misbehaves after an update. An app that fails to
start twice after an update goes back by itself.

  • Keep your settings on a live USB stick. On a stick that keeps nothing,
Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE > SET UP STORAGE ON THIS STICK turns its free space
(or, on a Ventoy stick, a file next to the ISO) into a data area for settings,
pairings and apps. The ISO on the stick stays as it is. Restart when it says
    STORAGE IS READY.

  • Beta versions, if you want them. Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE > UPDATE
CHANNEL switches between STABLE and BETA. On BETA the box is also offered
test versions, and moves on to the final release when it comes out. Going
back to STABLE never installs an older version: the box waits for the next
stable release. A box running a beta starts on BETA.

Changed

  • Smaller download. Besides the browsers, the ISO leaves out files no
supported PC can use. Hardware support is the same.
  • Faster start on installed boxes: the hidden boot menu waits 1 second
instead of 3, and the launcher itself starts sooner.
  • The installer no longer asks for a user name and passwords. The box never
needed an account to log in with; the launcher starts by itself as before.

Known limitations

  • INSTALL TO THIS STICK is not in 0.3.0; it is planned for a 0.3.x update.
  • If the TV interface cannot start on a PC, the box starts the classic
    interface by itself.
  • The music has no setting on screen yet. To turn it off, set music = off
under [appearance] in /var/lib/couchliteos/config.ini, or put your
    own track in ~/.local/share/couchliteos/music/.
  • On PCs without 3D graphics the wave stands still and animations are shorter.
  • A web browser added on a live USB stick is gone after a restart, even with a
persistence stick; add it again, or install CouchLiteOS to the disk.
  • TYPE ON PHONE sends the text over your home network without encryption. For
a password, use it only on a home network you trust.
  • Saving the current system needs about 7 GB free on the disk, besides the
download. With less, the update stops before changing anything and says so.
On 0.3.0 you can turn SAVE BEFORE UPDATE off. A box updating from 0.2.x, or
from the USB stick, that has too little room updates without a saved copy and
says so. 32 GB disks or larger are recommended.

Updating

A box on 0.2.1 or newer gets this release from Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE. Boxes
on 0.2.0 or MoonlightOS 0.1.x do not need a reinstall any more: write the 0.3.0
ISO to a USB stick, boot it, and choose Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE > UPDATE THE
INSTALLED SYSTEM. When it says UPDATE DONE, remove the stick and restart. See
Updating in the wiki.

A box that had Firefox or Google Chrome keeps them. A box on a 0.3.0 beta with
UPDATE CHANNEL set to BETA is offered this release too.

CouchLiteOS v0.3.0-beta.5

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@Dudiebug Dudiebug released this 10 Oct 01:01

CouchLiteOS v0.3.0-beta.5

A fix for updates. On a box that had used RESTORE PREVIOUS VERSION, the
next update could remove the PC's boot menu entries: the box then started into
a menu with only "CouchLiteOS: restore previous version". This beta fixes the
update so that it can no longer happen. Everything else is the same as the
fourth beta; see its notes below.
Please report what goes wrong on
GitHub.

If your box starts into that menu: press Enter on "CouchLiteOS: restore
previous version". The box goes back to the version it had before the update,
with your settings. Then update to this beta.

Fixed

  • An update after a restore removed the boot menu. RESTORE PREVIOUS
VERSION wrote down every system setting file of the restored system as the
box's own. The next update then removed the ones the new version did not
ship, among them the files that make the PC's boot menu, which the
installer adds. A restore no longer changes that list, an update recognizes
a list written this way and only removes CouchLiteOS's own files then, and
files of programs that only your box has are never removed.

Fixed in the fourth beta

  • A green screen after the boot picture on the iMac Late 2013. The boot
picture added in the third beta froze there when the graphics driver
started, and the home screen waited behind it. The boot picture is off
again on every PC (the start shows text, as on the second beta), and the
home screen no longer waits for it more than 10 seconds.
  • Older NVIDIA graphics (nouveau driver) draw the interface the way the
second beta did, instead of with the third beta's OpenGL drawing, until
that is known to work there. Intel and AMD graphics keep OpenGL.

Updating

A box on the second, third or fourth beta with UPDATE CHANNEL set to BETA gets
this beta from Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE. Any other box: write the ISO to a
USB stick, boot it, and choose Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE > UPDATE THE
INSTALLED SYSTEM. It keeps your settings and pairings.

From the third beta

New since the second beta

  • Every screen in the new look. All Settings pages (DISPLAY, AUDIO,
NETWORK, BLUETOOTH, CONTROLLERS, SOFTWARE UPDATE and the rest) and the Setup
Wizard are drawn by the TV interface, in your theme, instead of opening a
text window on top of it. If one of them cannot be drawn that way on a PC, it
opens in the old text look as before.
  • A new on-screen keyboard. The controller keyboard is drawn in the same
look, with large keys along the bottom of the screen; the app you type into
stays visible above it. It works as before: A types the key, Y deletes, B
cancels, TYPE + ENTER sends the text and presses Enter.
  • WHAT'S NEW in pages. The list of new features is shown as cards in two
columns, a page at a time (right or A for the next page), instead of one
    long crammed list.
  • Moonlight in APPS. APPS now has MOONLIGHT, which opens Moonlight's own
list of gaming PCs, and REMOTE DESKTOP. The NETWORK category is gone from the
home screen: Wi-Fi and network are under SETTINGS > NETWORK.
  • The gaming PC on the home screen. The top of the home screen always shows
the paired gaming PC and whether it is ONLINE, ASLEEP, NOT FOUND or has NO
    SUNSHINE running.

Fixed

  • A box woke the gaming PC instead of connecting. The box now asks every
address of the gaming PC at once (home network, the address you entered, the
remote address and IPv6) and only sends a wake-up when none answers.
  • No music on some PCs (the iMac Late 2013 among them). The music now plays
through PipeWire like the other sounds, and starts again by itself if its
player stops. Problems are written to /var/log/couchliteos/music.log, which
    the support file includes.
  • APPS was empty on some boxes. It now lists installed apps right away, and
    Flatpak apps are detected correctly.
  • Lag on older PCs. The TV interface picks OpenGL drawing where Vulkan
would run on the processor (Intel graphics), draws the wave
at a lower resolution above 1080p, keeps finished frames instead of drawing
them again, and turns animations down by itself when frames come too slowly.
Settings are read in the background, so the home screen no longer stalls when
you open them. Nothing was taken away: the wave, sparkles, sounds and music
    are all still there.
  • Home while a game starts goes back to the home screen as the loading
screen says, and the game keeps starting; a notice says when it is ready.
  • The tour no longer hides behind the update screen after an update.
  • The loading screen shows the cover or icon of what is starting.
  • A slow start no longer leaves the box on the boot picture: the saved
display mode and AUTO-STREAM wait until the home screen is up, and a step
that fails no longer stops the rest.

Known limitations

  • INSTALL TO THIS STICK (installing CouchLiteOS onto the USB stick you started
from) is not in 0.3.0; it is planned for a 0.3.x update.
  • Saving the current system needs about 7 GB free on the disk, besides the
download. 32 GB disks or larger are recommended.
  • Game covers from SteamGridDB need your own SteamGridDB key in Settings >
APPEARANCE > ARTWORK; without one, covers come from Moonlight and Steam.

@Dudiebug Dudiebug released this 09 Oct 08:31

CouchLiteOS v0.3.0-beta.4

A fix for the third beta. On the iMac Late 2013, and possibly other PCs
with older NVIDIA graphics on the general ISO, the third beta stopped on a
green screen after the boot picture and never reached the home screen. This
beta takes the new boot picture out again, so these PCs start as they did on
the second beta. Everything else is the same as the third beta; see its notes
below.

off, start it from a USB stick with this beta, and choose Settings > SOFTWARE

CouchLiteOS v0.3.0-beta.3

@Dudiebug Dudiebug released this 09 Oct 05:39

CouchLiteOS v0.3.0-beta.3

This is the third beta: a test version of 0.3.0 for people who want it
early.
It fixes what testers found on real hardware in the second beta and
puts every screen in the new look: Settings, the Setup Wizard and the on-screen
keyboard no longer open in the old text look. A box on the second beta with
UPDATE CHANNEL set to BETA is offered this one by Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE.
Please report what goes wrong on
GitHub.

v0.3.0 gives the box a console-style TV interface, themes, and a way to
undo an update. The download is much smaller: you pick a web browser during
setup and it installs from the internet. Older installs, including MoonlightOS,
can now update from the USB stick and keep their settings.

the picture carries on into the home screen's start animation.

  • Lag on older PCs. The TV interface picks OpenGL drawing where Vulkan
would run on the processor (Intel and older NVIDIA graphics), draws the wave
at a lower resolution above 1080p, keeps finished frames instead of drawing
them again, and turns animations down by itself when frames come too slowly.

Correction to the second beta's notes

The second beta's notes said the box shows its logo and a loading animation
while it starts. On most PCs it did not: the screen stayed black, or showed
text, until the launcher started. This beta installs the boot picture properly
(above). On some PCs with AMD or NVIDIA graphics the screen can still stay black
for a few seconds before the picture appears.

Known limitations

  • INSTALL TO THIS STICK (installing CouchLiteOS onto the USB stick you started
from) is not in 0.3.0; it is planned for a 0.3.x update.
  • Saving the current system needs about 7 GB free on the disk, besides the
download. 32 GB disks or larger are recommended.
  • Game covers from SteamGridDB need your own SteamGridDB key in Settings >
APPEARANCE > ARTWORK; without one, covers come from Moonlight and Steam.

Updating

A box on the second beta with UPDATE CHANNEL set to BETA gets this beta from
Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE. Any other box (the first beta, 0.2.x, or
MoonlightOS 0.1.x): write the ISO to a USB stick, boot it, and choose Settings >
SOFTWARE UPDATE > UPDATE THE INSTALLED SYSTEM. It keeps your settings and
pairings, and saves the current system first, so RESTORE PREVIOUS VERSION takes
the box back. When it says UPDATE DONE, remove the stick and restart. See
Updating in the wiki.

@Dudiebug Dudiebug released this 09 Oct 00:32

CouchLiteOS v0.3.0-beta.2

This is the second beta: a test version of 0.3.0 for people who want it
early.
New since the first beta: a new home screen in the style of the
PlayStation 3 menu, a boot animation, more themes, a loading screen and sounds
for games and apps, a tour on the first start with HELP in Settings, and the
UPDATE CHANNEL setting (below), so a box on this beta is offered the next beta
and then the final 0.3.0 by SOFTWARE UPDATE itself. A box on the first beta is not offered this one; update it from
the ISO below (see Updating).
Please report what goes wrong on
GitHub.

v0.3.0 gives the box a console-style TV interface, themes, and a way to
undo an update. The download is much smaller: you pick a web browser during
setup and it installs from the internet. Older installs, including MoonlightOS,
can now update from the USB stick and keep their settings.

New

  • A new home screen. Categories run along the screen (POWER, SETTINGS,
TV & VIDEO, GAMES, APPS and NETWORK) and the items of the one you are in run
down it, as on a PlayStation 3. GAMES comes first, the most recently played at
the top, each with its cover. A slow coloured wave moves behind it all. A bar
along the bottom shows what each controller button and keyboard key does, with
the button letters of the pad you hold (Xbox, PlayStation or Nintendo). Small
notices appear when a controller connects or disconnects, its battery runs
low, the gaming PC comes online or an update is ready. After a stream, Home
comes back with the game you just played in focus.

  • Starting up. The box shows its logo and a loading animation while it
starts, and the home screen fades in when it is ready. Waking from sleep has
its own, shorter animation and sound.

  • Sounds and music. Moving, opening and going back have soft sounds, and
quiet music plays on the home screen and in the menus. Settings > APPEARANCE >
    SOUNDS turns the sounds off.

  • Games and apps in front. Starting a game or an app shows a loading screen
with its name and a start sound; coming back plays a return sound. While a
game or app is in front, the home screen stops drawing and the music stops,
so the PC's power goes to the game.

  • A tour and HELP. The first start ends with a short tour of the buttons
and the home screen. Settings > HELP has short answers to common questions
and START THE TOUR to see it again.

  • Themes. Settings > APPEARANCE has 14 themes (MIDNIGHT, SLATE, DAYLIGHT,
OCEAN, CRIMSON, EMERALD, AMETHYST, SUNSET, ROSE, GOLD, GRAPHITE, ARCTIC, HIGH
CONTRAST, and TERMINAL, the white-on-black look of 0.2.x), accent colours
including BY MONTH (a new colour each month, as on the PS3), and BACKGROUND:
WAVE AND SPARKLES, WAVE or PLAIN. The whole box, including the on-screen
keyboard, changes colour at once. You can add your own theme file; see the
    theme guide.

A box updated from 0.2.x or MoonlightOS starts in the new TV
interface; the WHAT'S NEW screen on its first start says how to go back.

  • A live USB stick updates itself. With storage set up, Settings > SOFTWARE
UPDATE on the stick installs a new release onto the stick and keeps the one
before it; restart to start the new one. ROLL BACK there goes back to the
earlier one, and the boot menu lists both. The ISO on the stick stays as it is.

  • NVIDIA boxes wait for their file. Until the NVIDIA ISO is added to a
release, SOFTWARE UPDATE on an NVIDIA box says THE NVIDIA VERSION OF 0.3.0 IS
NOT READY YET, and Home does not offer that release.

Known limitations

  • Most Settings pages still open in the classic text look, on top of the TV
interface. B or Esc on the first page goes back to the TV interface.
  • If the TV interface cannot start on a PC, the box starts the classic
    interface by itself.
  • The music has no setting on screen yet. To tur...

  • A TV interface. The home screen now shows your games first, the most
recently played at the front, each with its cover, then your apps, then
SETTINGS, HOSTS and POWER. The focused game's cover fills the background. A
bar along the bottom always shows what each controller button and keyboard
key does, with the button symbols of the pad you hold (Xbox, PlayStation or

its battery runs low, the gaming PC comes online or an update is ready.
Navigation sounds can be turned off in Settings > APPEARANCE > SOUNDS. After a

bitrate and HDR, kept for that game alone and never above what your TV and

  • Themes. Settings > APPEARANCE has five themes (MIDNIGHT, SLATE, DAYLIGHT,
HIGH CONTRAST and TERMINAL, the white-on-black look of 0.2.x) and eight accent
colours. The whole box, including the
    on-screen keyboard, changes colour at once. You can add your own theme file;
    see the theme guide.

SOFTWARE UPDATE shows the SAVED VERSION, and has SAVE BEFORE UPDATE (ON or
OFF) and DELETE SAVED VERSION for small disks. The update from 0.2.x to 0.3.0
is saved too, so you can go back to 0.2.x.

  • Update an older install from the USB stick. Boot the 0.3.0 USB stick on a
box with 0.2.0 or MoonlightOS 0.1.x installed. Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE >
UPDATE THE INSTALLED SYSTEM (KEEPS PAIRINGS AND SETTINGS) updates it in place
    instead of erasing the disk.

brings back the text menu of 0.2.x (TV goes back to the new one); the box
restarts the launcher into it at once. Pair it with THEME > TERMINAL for the
old colours too. A box updated from 0.2.x or MoonlightOS starts in the new TV
interface; the WHAT'S NEW screen on its first start says how to go back.

Changed

  • Smaller download. Besides the browsers, the ISO leaves out files no
supported PC can use. Hardware support is the same.

  • A web browser added on a live USB stick is gone after a restart, even with a
persistence stick; add it again, or install CouchLiteOS to the disk.
  • A live USB stick can update itself only after SET UP STORAGE ON THIS STICK,
and only from 0.3.0 on: the first release it can update to is the next one.

Updating

SOFTWARE UPDATE does not offer a beta. To try it on an installed box (0.2.1 or
newer, 0.2.0, or MoonlightOS 0.1.x): write the ISO to a USB stick, boot it, and
choose Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE > UPDATE THE INSTALLED SYSTEM. It keeps your
settings and pairings, and saves the current system first, so RESTORE PREVIOUS
VERSION takes the box back. When it says UPDATE DONE, remove the stick and
restart. See Updating
in the wiki.

CouchLiteOS v0.2.7

@Dudiebug Dudiebug released this 03 Oct 18:08

CouchLiteOS v0.2.7

v0.2.7 keeps the Guide button and the PlayStation touchpad for the game you are
streaming, fixes going back to a running Moonlight, and checks for updates at
every start.

Changed

  • Guide goes to the stream. While Moonlight or chiaki-ng is in front, the
Guide / PS button no longer opens CouchLiteOS Home. It reaches the gaming PC,
so Steam Big Picture and the PlayStation menu open as they should. To get back
to Home during a stream, hold Select+Start (View+Menu) for 1.5 seconds, hold
L3+R3 if you chose that in Settings > CONTROLS, or press the keyboard
shortcut. Everywhere else Guide works as before.
  • The PlayStation touchpad goes to the stream. The DualShock 4 and
DualSense touchpad no longer moves the mouse pointer while you stream, and the
box now lets Moonlight and chiaki-ng read the pad directly. Outside a stream
the touchpad is a mouse again. For the gaming PC to see it as a touchpad,
Sunshine must present your pad as a PlayStation controller (its default for a
    PlayStation pad).
  • Updates are checked at every start. CouchLiteOS now looks for a new
release each time it starts, then every few hours while it stays on, and
retries after 10 minutes if the network was not ready. When there is one, a
prompt on the Home screen asks if you want to open SOFTWARE UPDATE now. It
asks once per release and never over a running app or stream. The SETTINGS
row on Home and the SOFTWARE UPDATE row in Settings keep saying that an update
is available. A check made in SOFTWARE UPDATE updates the Home screen too.

Fixed

  • Back to Moonlight after Home. Coming back to a running stream from Home
could say Moonlight had no window. The box now tries every way of finding the
window, including looking through the open windows, and records what it saw
when none matches so it can be fixed for good.

Updating

A box on 0.2.1 or newer gets this release from Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE.
Boxes on 0.2.0 or older must be reinstalled once; see
Updating in the wiki.

CouchLiteOS v0.2.6

@Dudiebug Dudiebug released this 03 Oct 06:14

CouchLiteOS v0.2.6

v0.2.6 fixes the Home screen saying no gaming PC was paired when one was, and
removes the notice for people who do not use a gaming PC.

Changed

  • No more "none paired yet" notice. The line under the title on the Home
screen no longer asks you to pair a gaming PC. Many people use CouchLiteOS only
for PlayStation Remote Play or as a lightweight desktop, so it now stays empty
until a gaming PC is paired.

Fixed

  • A paired gaming PC was not recognised. The Home screen read the Moonlight
settings file in the wrong layout, so a PC you had paired in Moonlight showed
as "none paired yet". It now reads the file the way Moonlight writes it, so the
line under the title shows the PC's state (ready, asleep, or not answering).
The same fix makes the STREAM row, waking a sleeping PC, and starting a stream
    automatically see your paired PC.

A box on 0.2.1 or newer gets this release from Settings > SOFTWARE UPDATE.
Boxes on 0.2.0 or older must be reinstalled once; see

New

  • Choose your own keyboard Home key. Settings > CONTROLS > KEYBOARD HOME
KEY: press A or Enter, hold the keys you want, then let go. Ctrl+Alt+H stays
the default. A key with Ctrl, Alt or Super works anywhere, including during a
stream or Remote Desktop session. The same screen turns the shortcut off
(Y / Square, or Delete) or puts Ctrl+Alt+H back (X / Triangle, or F12). Boxes that had the shortcut off keep it off.
  • A KEYBOARD KEYS help page. Settings > CONTROLS > KEYBOARD KEYS lists what
each keyboard key does in the launcher: Enter, Esc, the arrow keys, F5 to F8,
F12 for the on-screen keyboard, and your Home key. CONTROLLER BUTTONS shows
your Home key too, and the hints at the bottom of screens name Enter and Esc
    where there is room.

Changed

  • The Super (Windows) key no longer opens Home. A tap now does nothing in the
launcher and reaches the app in front, as on any other desktop. Use your
keyboard Home key (Ctrl+Alt+H unless you changed it), Guide, or the Home
    shortcut on your controller.

Fixed

  • The first-run setup footer and the APPLICATIONS help named controller
buttons only, and one line pointed at the wrong settings screen. They now
name the keyboard keys and the right place.
  • What's New named the wrong settings screen for the audio output choice.
It now says SETTINGS > AUDIO.

Known limitations

  • During a stream or Remote Desktop session your Home key also reaches the other
PC. Super+letter often does something there (on Windows, Win+H starts voice
typing); the default, Ctrl+Alt+H, does nothing on Windows.
