We gave the name BastWAN-WLE because the microcontroller on the boards is based on STM32WLE5CCU6, you can see that has a WLE on the name, which also is to differentiate the board from its sister the BastWAN board.
Each board has a different and unique DevEUI printed on a sticker that is on top of RAK's chip, this is assigned by the manufactured (RAK). This number is necessary to identify the device that is joining into LoRaWAN applications, however, you can generate a new one and use it in your code to join the application. We recommend you use the one printed on the sticker. The DevEUI format is Hex format and MSB first.
This is normal behavior since the computer is communicating to the RAK's chip, once the communication is done you must see a message showing that the code has been uploaded successfully.
LoRaWAN communication needs a PayLoad to decode the received data. That is the reason you only see random characters in the received data.
BastWAB-WLE has a battery charger that provides 4.2v to charge a battery and a regulator that manages the battery voltage output to 3.3v which is the operating voltage for the BastWAN-WLE, supporting Li-Ion and Li-Po batteries. So a LiPo or LiIon 3.7v battery is what you need.
