Ammerow 0.1.2
Ammerow 0.1.2 adds cautious continuous exploration, clearer item information and level-up supply rewards, alongside interface and source-build fixes.
Download and play
Download Ammerow-0.1.2-windows-x64.zip, extract the entire ZIP into a fresh writable folder, and run ammerow.exe. Requires 64-bit Windows 10/11; no Steam account is needed.
This is the full game with ASCII illustrations, Hybrid 32x32/64x64 sprites, sound effects and home-screen music. The adjacent .sha256 file verifies the download. The same portable ZIP is suitable for Itch.
What's changed
- Item details: inspecting equipment or inventory keeps the list behind the details panel and preserves your selection. Details show the item's ASCII illustration or a large coloured glyph; unidentified items retain their unidentified appearance.
- Clearer sidebar: character level and XP needed for the next level share a line, and money is labelled Gold. An optional static warning border highlights urgent conditions without flashing; disable it under Display / Performance if preferred.
- Controls & Convenience: a new settings page brings exploration, walking to stairs and pickup/ignore settings together. Traditional exploration remains available. Continuous exploration keeps finding reachable unexplored ground but stops for monsters, newly discovered non-ignored loot and safety interruptions. Any key or click cancels; fighting remains entirely manual.
- Level feelings: unseen danger/treasure hints are off by default for new characters, with clearer wording. Existing characters keep their setting. Feeling announcements no longer interrupt continuous exploration.
- Level celebrations: reaching a new personal highest level brings a card and sound. Every five levels offers one choice of potion supplies, scroll supplies or gold. Choose later to keep the reward under Enter > Information > Level rewards. Pending choices survive save/reload; level drain and recovery cannot repeat rewards.
- Source builds: restored missing exploration and item-details test files to the public export, and added the input declaration required by stricter compilers.
Existing saves
Back up your current game folder before updating. Existing saves can be loaded; previously reached levels do not grant retrospective rewards. Saves written by 0.1.2 cannot be reopened by older releases, because they now include the level-reward state. Preserve your original save if you might want to go back.
Source and licences
The playable ZIP includes its exact corresponding program source at source/Ammerow-source.zip. The v0.1.2 tag contains the same source files. GitHub's automatic Source code downloads are for building the game, not ready-to-play downloads.
The program is GPLv2. Ammerow artwork and audio are separately licensed and included in the playable download, not the source repository. See the accompanying notices for permissions and third-party licences.
The clean exported source passed 1,442 native tests, 24 Python tests, five frontend tests, and built/installed headless smoke checks. The full portable ZIP passed extraction and per-file hash verification. These automated checks complement playtesting; they are not a guarantee of a bug-free release.
Ammerow 0.1.1
The first update to Ammerow: Lands Beyond, with camera, interface and Hybrid presentation fixes.
Download and play
Download Ammerow-0.1.1-windows-x64.zip below, extract the entire ZIP to a writable folder, and run ammerow.exe from the extracted folder. Requires 64-bit Windows 10/11. No Steam account is needed.
This is the full playable game, including ASCII illustrations, Hybrid 32x32/64x64 graphics, sound effects and home-screen music. The adjacent .sha256 file lets you verify the download.
What's changed
- The camera keeps the player clear of the stats and messages, including at map edges. A previously selected target no longer pulls the camera away during normal movement.
- Hybrid monster artwork remains visible during attack and death animations instead of briefly changing to an ASCII glyph.
- Clicking the interface-size setting cycles through all sizes. Redundant manual camera-centering controls have been removed from menus and help; existing shortcuts remain recognised.
- Large Settings pages separate their controls, hints and footer text. Long messages wrap correctly, and bottom messages remain left-aligned with the sidebar fitted above them.
- Fixed the lean public-source CMake check so it no longer requires omitted private audit tests.
Existing saves
There are no gameplay-balance, content or save-format changes in this update. Existing 0.1.0 saves and settings are intended to carry forward, and an actual 0.1.0 save was tested through loading, saving and restarting in 0.1.1. Back up your existing game folder before updating; this is not a guarantee for every possible save state.
