Steam Box

A specialized workstation used to soften the fibers of Rough Limbs, making them flexible enough to be shaped into functional bow components.

Obtaining

Crafting

The Steam Box is crafted like this:

iron bar iron bar iron bar
copper ingot bucket copper ingot
planks planks planks

Usage

The Steam Box must be placed directly over a heat source to function, and it must hold water.

Valid heat sources: lit Campfire, Fire, Magma Block, Lava, or a Lava Cauldron directly underneath.

Operation

  1. Fill with Water: Right-click the Steam Box with a Water Bucket. The water level is shown as a live, rising surface inside the basin.
  2. Add Limbs: Right-click to insert up to 16 Rough Limbs.
  3. Steam: With both heat and water present, the limbs soften over time. Each finished limb consumes some water.
  4. Retrieve: When a limb is done, the Pliable Limb pops out just above the box for you to collect.

Mechanics

  • Input: Rough Limbs (Oak, Spruce, Birch, Jungle, Acacia, Dark Oak, Mangrove, Cherry, Pale Oak, Crimson, or Warped).
  • Parallel Processing: Steams up to 16 limbs simultaneously.
  • Heat required: Without an active heat source underneath, nothing cooks.
  • Water required: Steaming progress only advances while there is enough water in the tank. Run dry and progress simply pauses where it is until you refill.
  • Output: Pliable Limbs, ejected on top of the block.

Automation & Compatibility

The Steam Box was built to play nicely with tech and automation mods.

  • Water tank (fluid capability): The internal tank is a standard NeoForge fluid handler that only accepts water. Pipes, pumps, and tanks from other mods can fill it automatically — no bucket required.
  • Hopper / pipe input: A hopper (above or beside) or any item pipe can feed Rough Limbs straight into the box. The input only accepts valid steamable limbs, so it won't get clogged with the wrong item.
  • Output: Finished limbs pop out on top (the heat source occupies the space below), where a hopper minecart or collection system can pick them up.
  • Comparator output: Place a Redstone Comparator against the box to read its water level as a signal of 0 (empty) to 15 (full).

Tooltip mods

The Steam Box integrates with Jade, TheOneProbe, and WTHIT. Looking at the block shows:

  • its water tank and contents (via each mod's built-in providers), and
  • a live status line — Steaming: 42%, Steaming paused — no heat below, Steaming paused — needs water, or Idle.

Technical Details

  • Tool Required: Axe
  • Block Entity: fletcherstrestle:steam_box
  • Capabilities exposed: FluidHandler (water-only) and ItemHandler (raw-limb input).
