Beam Lights

Beam Lights brings directional dynamic light to Minecraft for flashlights, helmet lamps and headlights. Instead of the conventional omnidirectional glowing orb around the player, Beam Lights projects light along your view vector, dynamically lighting the exact surfaces you aim at and the path along the way.

The mod is client-driven for rendering (supporting LambDynamicLights and Sodium Dynamic Lights) and server-aware for game mechanics (monster spawn prevention inside lit beams, and optional mob attraction). It features native integration with Omega Flashlight, full datapack support for custom item beams, and extensive KubeJS bindings.

Supported Versions

Minecraft Mod Loader Status Branch Overview & Specifics
1.21.1 NeoForge Current, complete main 1.21.1 NeoForge
1.20.1 Forge In Development 1.20.1 1.20.1 Forge

Core Features

  • Directional Beam Lighting: Projects light rays forward from the eye or item location. Hits and beam paths cast real dynamic light in the world.
  • Volumetric Soft Cone Light: With LambDynamicLights, indoor beams project a soft, expanding cone of light that illuminates surrounding corridors and rooms naturally.
  • Smart Indoor/Outdoor Gating: Transitions smoothly between indoor cone lighting and long-range outdoor ray patterns based on sky exposure and obstacle distance, using hysteresis to avoid flickering.
  • Motion Governor & Performance Budget: Frame rate stays high during fast camera pans: side rays freeze while turning fast (> 90°/s) and update budgets throttle chunk re-meshing automatically.
  • Server Gameplay Rules: Optional game rules prevent monsters from spawning inside lit beams and draw idle mobs toward illuminated spots.
  • Data-Driven & Extensible: Any vanilla or modded item can be turned into a light source via datapack JSON, item NBT components, or KubeJS scripts without writing Java code.
  • Native Omega Flashlight Support: Flashlights, bulb upgrades, and realistic low-battery flickers work right out of the box.
