Version: Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge).
Beam Lights is designed to be as non-intrusive as possible. It registers nothing into synchronized registries, allowing it to function optionally on either client or server.
Beam Lights relies on an existing lighting backend to register light points into the world. Install one of the following:
| Mod | Status | Supported Features |
|---|---|---|
| LambDynamicLights (4.8.x+) | Recommended | Full support: Directional ray point lights and soft volumetric cone lighting. |
| Sodium Dynamic Lights | Supported | Directional point lights along the central and side rays (no cone light). |
Note: Having neither mod installed will cause Beam Lights to run in noop mode on the client (no visible light drawn, but server game rules will still function).
| Mod | Version | Integration Details |
|---|---|---|
| Omega Flashlight | 1.6.6+ | Native out-of-the-box support for handheld and placed flashlights. Respects bulb upgrades, on/off states, and low-power battery flickering. |
| Curios API | 1.21.1+ | Allows items equipped in Curios accessory slots (e.g. headlamps, chest belt lights) to project beams. |
| KubeJS | KubeJS 7 (2101.7+) | Provides the BeamLights global helper for startup and server scripts: KubeJS Integration. |
-
Iris / Oculus Shaders:
- Dynamic light points generated by LambDynamicLights or Sodium Dynamic Lights are passed directly to the shader pack pipeline.
- Soft cone lighting (LambDynamicLights) projects light as multiple ambient block illuminations; it functions properly with most standard shader packs (Complementary, BSL, MakeUp Ultra Fast).
-
Sodium / Embeddium:
- Fully compatible. Beam Lights' Motion Governor and Performance Budget are specifically designed to minimize chunk re-meshing on Sodium.
- Client Only: If installed only on the client, players still get full directional dynamic lighting for supported items (Omega Flashlight and custom NBT items).
-
Server Only: If installed only on a dedicated server, players without the mod can join without issues. The server will enforce mob spawn blocking (
beamlightsBlockSpawns) and mob attraction (beamlightsAttractMobs). - Both Client & Server: Full experience, including synchronized datapack beam definitions and game rules.
Beam Lights is released under the MIT license. Author: Stefano Manca.
