academic support announcement
Hi {{FirstName}},
If programming is new to you, it is normal to have questions as you get started. IT-140 is an introductory programming course, but it moves quickly and requires consistent work throughout each week.
Most students should plan to spend about 15 hours per week on IT-140. Weeks 1 and 2 are especially important because you are learning both programming concepts and the tools and processes you will use throughout the course.
A good plan for success is:
- Start on Monday. Do not wait until the weekend to begin your coursework.
- Work consistently. Plan for about 2–3 hours per day, 5–7 days each week.
- Get help early. If you are confused or stuck, use the support resources below rather than waiting until the end of the week.
-
Have a question about IT-140 coursework, an assignment, project, or course tool? Attend IT Basics Office Hours.
-
Want a guided review of this week's IT-140 concepts and practice? Attend or watch the recording of the IT-140: Intro to Python Workshop.
-
Need help with a Python or programming question right away? Use 24/7 Drop-in Tutoring.
-
Want tutorials, videos, or other self-help resources? Visit the Academic Resource Center.
IT Basics Office Hours are one of the best places to ask questions about IT-140 coursework, assignments, projects, or course tools. Office Hours are hosted by SNHU Learning Support Specialists (LSS), who are familiar with IT-140 and can access course content in D2L Brightspace, zyBooks, and Codio.
See the Office Hours Schedule for days and times. If the schedule opens at the top of the page, scroll down to find IT Basics Office Hours.
You can also book a session and retrieve session recordings.
TIP: Attend Office Hours live when you have a specific question. Office Hours are student-driven, so the topics covered depend on the questions asked by students who attend. If no students attend, there may be no recording. You may book a session without attending to access any recording that is created, but it may not cover the question you need answered.
The IT-140: Intro to Python Workshop is designed specifically to help you review IT-140 topics, practice course concepts, and ask questions. Workshops are hosted by SNHU Learning Support Specialists (LSS), who are familiar with IT-140 and can access course content in D2L Brightspace, zyBooks, and Codio.
See the Workshop Schedule for days and times. If the schedule opens at the top of the page, scroll down to find IT 140 - Intro to Python Workshop.
You can book a session and retrieve session recordings.
TIP: Book the first IT-140: Intro to Python workshop session each week (Weeks 1–8). The IT-140 workshops offered during the same week cover the same planned material. Even if you cannot attend the session you booked, you will be able to retrieve the recording and watch the presentation on demand.
24/7 Drop-in Tutoring is available when you need help with a general Python or programming question right away.
Tutors know Python and programming, but they may not be familiar with the specific IT-140 assignment you are completing and cannot access your IT-140 course content. When requesting help, provide enough information for the tutor to understand what you are working on.
For IT-140, select:
- Topic: Computer Science and Programming
- Subject: Programming: Python
- Voice-Chat: Select this if you would like to speak with a tutor. Voice chat may not always be available during off-peak hours.
- Enter your question: Describe what you are trying to do and where you are having difficulty. If your work has a GitHub assignment repository, include its URL.
The Academic Resource Center (ARC) provides tutorials, videos, and other resources that you can use at any time.
These resources may be especially helpful in IT-140:
The most important thing you can do in IT-140 is stay engaged throughout the week. Start your work on Monday, make steady progress each day, and ask for help as soon as you need it.
You do not need to figure everything out by yourself. These resources are available to help you learn the material and keep moving forward.
