Search by title or author, and narrow the results with filters and shelves. Open a book and choose its file or volume. Use Continue reading for something you have already started. To add books, see Importing and Organizing.
Open the reading menu to browse the contents, jump to a position, add a bookmark, or change display settings. Ebooks offer font size and theme options; PDFs and comics have their own zoom, paging, and reading modes. Available options vary by format and device.
On a computer, use the onscreen controls or keyboard to turn pages. On a phone, tap or swipe. A large ebook may need time to finish downloading the first time you open it; keep the connection available.
Sign in to the same server and account to sync reading and listening positions between the web and the app. When another device has newer progress, follow the prompt to choose whether to jump there. Read status is separate from your reading position; marking a book unread does not erase the position.
Choose an audiobook and start playback. You can pause, skip forward or back, switch chapters and tracks, change speed, and set a sleep timer. For books with multiple volumes, select the volume you want; each saves its own progress.
If an imported file will not play, try another audio file or device. See Supported Formats for compatibility.

Android app: download the APK from Installation, enter a server address your phone can reach, such as
http://192.168.1.10:3000, and sign in. Do not use the phone's ownlocalhost. - Mobile browser: open the same server address. On iPhone or iPad, use Safari.
- Add to your home screen: choose Install app in a supported browser, or Share → Add to Home Screen in Safari. Full web-app installation and caching require HTTPS. A local HTTP address still works for ordinary browsing and reading.
Away from home, the local network address is usually unreachable. You need an externally reachable server address or a way to connect to your home network first.
Use a book or file's download action, then check the download list for progress, errors, and retry options. A pending download is not a saved file.
On Android, make sure the required files have fully downloaded before reading offline. Downloads cover only the saved files; signing in, finding new books on the server, and syncing progress still require a connection. Downloading one book or installing the web app does not make the entire library available offline.
Browsers may clear cached reading files. Explicitly download and save files you want to keep. Web and Android download records are managed separately.
- On the web, open Settings → Email & Kindle. An administrator configures the sending email account's SMTP settings; each user enters their own Kindle email address.
- Add the sending address to Amazon's approved personal-document email list.
- Use a book's Kindle action and select an EPUB or PDF, one file per send.
- Check the sending history, then check your Kindle for delivery.
Attachments are limited to 50 MB at most, and your configured limit or email provider may allow less. A successful send does not mean the Kindle has received the file yet.
An administrator enables Settings → OPDS, enters a public address the reading app can reach, and saves it. Copy the OPDS address shown on the page, add it as a catalog in a compatible reader, and sign in with your Ermao Books account.
Third-party readers can browse, search, and download books. Their reading progress does not sync back to Ermao Books.
Use Settings → Personal Information to change your profile and password. Administrators use User Management to manage accounts and library access. Contact your administrator if you cannot see a management menu. For a forgotten password, see Troubleshooting.
