Wing Command v0.9.2.2 - Throwing Hamsters at Enemies Update 2/4

The hamsters have survived long enough to become someone else's problem. Part 2/4 brings multi-target saturation attacks, more precise tactical control, repeatable patrols, and a wing that can refit and get back to work.

Highlights

Splash 'Em: commit the salvo

  • Splash 'Em commits every selected wingman's suitable, already-in-range stores across all designated targets and fires at each weapon's native rate.
  • No shared shot delay or attacker cap. Weapons still obey matching, readiness and launch envelopes; aircraft do not run in just to bring shorter-range stores into the salvo.
  • The order overrides routine formation recall, leash, bingo and auto-refit. Imminent missile defence, terrain/stall recovery and safe departure can pause it, then the same salvo resumes. Critical fuel at 3% or less can end it.
  • Once committed stores are spent or no suitable designated targets remain, wingmen advance their queued order or reform.
  • Improved weapon target-altitude handling and attack-run behaviour.

More control from the tactical map

  • Reworked Tactical pages for Combat, Tasking and Route orders, with clearer selection, map placement and order feedback.
  • Create up to three flight groups, recall them quickly, and manage larger wings through the expanded roster.
  • Queue Move routes and loop them as patrols. Adjust route altitude and speed from Tactical.
  • Refit preserves the current task and route, then resumes after rearming and takeoff. Optional Auto Refit does the same when fuel or combat stores run low.
  • Updated HUD, radial menu and map markers, including aircraft-specific command availability.

Flight, departures and radio

  • Retuned formation and rejoin guidance for more responsive banking, heading correction and altitude tracking.
  • Improved low-speed recovery, climbing turns, leader tracking and formation collision handling.
  • Delivery queues attempt departures fairly per airfield, so a blocked origin does not hold up deliveries elsewhere.
  • Refined radio chatter, message timing and formation responses.

Pilots and squadron management

  • Added in-game custom pilot editing and expanded portrait customization.
  • Refined survival perks, search-and-rescue handling and pilot lifecycle behaviour.
  • Improved Supply presentation, airbase names, assignment quotes and pilot records.

Install / update

Download WingCommand.dll below and replace the existing file at:

Nuclear Option/BepInEx/plugins/WingCommand/WingCommand.dll

Keep only one copy of the plugin DLL installed. Existing configuration is retained.

Compatibility

  • Nuclear Option: 0.34.2
  • BepInEx: 5.4.23+
  • Supported command modes: single-player and multiplayer host.

@GrabowMar GrabowMar released this 08 Sep 21:01

Wing Command v0.9.2.1 — Keeping the Hamsters Alive

A follow-up to The Mind of the Body, focused on flight recovery, missile defence, pilot records and everyday command fixes. The hamsters now have faces, more survival instincts, and slightly less enthusiasm for turning before they can fly. Still a work in progress.

Highlights

Safer departures and formation recovery

  • Fixed-wing aircraft now need sufficient forward airspeed before handing takeoff control over to formation flight.
  • Improved low-speed recovery, rejoin guidance and overshoot handling.
  • Better handling of slow leaders and formation demands beyond a follower's flight envelope.
  • Improved helicopter landing and cargo approaches: arrest movement and centre over the destination before descending.

Missile defence and AI

  • More consistent radar-missile notching, keeping the chosen defensive direction instead of reversing as the leader moves.
  • Missile interception decisions now account for ROE, time to impact and nearby cover.
  • Added individual switches for stronger AI turns, target spreading and missile-warning repairs, including effects on non-wing AI.
  • Improved flight diagnostics to help track remaining recovery and formation problems.

Pilots with faces and records

  • Added experimental generated pilot portraits, shared consistently between Wing and Supply.
  • Expanded recruit names, unique roster callsigns, service backgrounds and personalities.
  • Fixed pilot assignment and survival handling through leader changes and takeover.
  • Improved fatal-loss records, including cause of loss and killer information.

Commands, HUD and WMC

  • The standalone command wheel now defaults to C: hold, aim and release to confirm; right-click cancels. Existing key settings are preserved.
  • Added live horizontal and vertical wing HUD position adjustments.
  • Updated Wing and Supply presentation for the expanded pilot roster and portraits.
  • Expanded debug aircraft selection and made action logging easier to access.

Compatibility

  • Nuclear Option: 0.34.2
  • BepInEx: 5.4.23+
  • Wing Command: 0.9.2.1

Single-player and multiplayer host control remain the supported command modes. This release does not add reliable AI command control for clients joining another host.

The wingmen are still basically a bunch of hamsters. At least now you can recognise the one who owes you an aircraft.

Wing Command v0.9.2 - The Mind of the Body update

@GrabowMar GrabowMar released this 07 Sep 21:30

Wing Command v0.9.2 — The Mind of the Body

A major update focused on smarter wingmen, better formation flying, faster tactical control, and more reliable squadron operations. Still buggy mess but in theory a little bit less than in previous version. Next update will be all about stability, bugfixes and multiplayer compatibility.

Highlights

Smarter wingmen

Wingman behaviour has been rebuilt around a unified decision system.

  • Missile defence, safety, formation recovery and player orders now interact predictably.
  • Temporary reactions no longer overwrite standing orders.
  • Wingmen preserve their tasks through leader loss and takeover.
  • Smart and Performance AI modes replace dozens of old tuning settings.

Formation overhaul

  • Better predictive slot tracking and turn anticipation.
  • Improved rejoin and closure behaviour.
  • Safer terrain and collision handling.
  • Better vertical tracking and reduced overcorrection.
  • ROE now influences formation spacing.
  • Improved helicopter and VTOL formation behaviour.

New and improved commands

  • Jam Target
  • Stand Down
  • Refit
  • Improved Splash 'Em
  • Move orders now support altitude and speed adjustments.
  • Engage now sets FREE ROE.
  • Expanded manoeuvres including Break, Split-S, Immelmann, Barrel Roll, Loop and Wing Waggle.

Combat improvements

  • Better target deconfliction across the wing.
  • Improved countermeasure selection against radar missiles.
  • More reliable jammer behaviour.
  • Cleaner transitions between attacks, defensive reactions and formation flight.

Airfields, RTB and Refit

  • Requisitioned aircraft now use more of Nuclear Option's normal taxi and takeoff flow.
  • Departures are sequenced to reduce runway and taxiway collisions.
  • RTB properly returns aircraft and pilots to their respective pools.
  • Refit lands, rearms, refuels and launches the same wingman back into the fight.
  • Requisitions stay tied to appropriate nearby airfields instead of jumping to distant bases.

UI and WMC

  • Large avionics-style WMC refresh.
  • Cleaner Tactical, Supply, Loadout and Wing pages.
  • Improved pilot dossiers and roster presentation.
  • Reworked command wheel with dedicated icons.
  • Better map selection and command feedback.
  • Added livery selection.

Pilots, radio and loadouts

  • Expanded persistent pilot records and radio acknowledgements.
  • Improved squadron chatter.
  • More reliable per-pylon loadout templates.
  • Launch fuel can now be selected.
  • Better handling of invalid or conflicting weapon configurations.

Compatibility

  • Nuclear Option: 0.34.2
  • BepInEx: 5.4.23+
  • Wing Command: 0.9.2

This is the largest Wing Command AI and flight-control overhaul so far.

The wingmen are still basically bunch of hamsters though.

WingCommand v0.9.1 — Lines on the map update

This is a major WingCommand update focused on making your squadron feel like a living group of pilots rather than a collection of aircraft slots.

The WMC pilot page has been rebuilt, radio chatter has gained rare in-flight conversations, and the loadout system is now considerably safer around conflicting pylons and modded weapons.

Highlights

Rebuilt WMC Wing dossier

The Wing page now presents a proper pilot and airframe dossier:

  • Pilot portrait
  • Name, callsign, rank and XP progression
  • Combat record and sortie count
  • Radio personality
  • Expanded biography
  • Aircraft type and current order
  • Live fuel, ammunition and hull condition
  • Current loadout and grouped weapon inventory
  • New aircraft silhouette presentation

Ambient crew banter

Airborne pilots can now occasionally exchange jokes, rumours and aviation folklore while the radio is quiet.

  • Some lines receive a response from another pilot
  • Named pilots have their own dialogue and pilot-specific exchanges
  • Banter waits for an idle radio and is checked on a sparse timer
  • Lone pilots will not begin conversations that require a reply
  • Banter can be disabled independently with Comms/CrewBanter

Safer loadout templates

The pylon-by-pylon editor and spawn path received a substantial reliability pass:

  • Conflicting fitted stores can now be cleared directly from blocked rows
  • Mirrored pylons correctly account for exclusions across represented stations
  • Invalid or stale combinations are removed safely before spawning
  • Malformed individual stores no longer prevent the rest of an aircraft from being catalogued
  • Better compatibility with older Workshop weapons that do not provide a normal JSON key
  • Template store identities remain stable across restarts

Performance and UI polish

Several frequently executed paths now do less repeated work:

  • Nearby formation-threat scans are shared and throttled
  • Chatter cooldown tracking no longer allocates callsign strings
  • Selection cleanup avoids per-frame predicate allocations
  • HUD and WMC rows cache values that do not need to be rebuilt every frame
  • Fuel, ammunition and integrity collections are sampled once per refresh
  • Shop and reserve catalogue paths reuse their working collections

Compatibility

  • Nuclear Option: 0.34.2
  • BepInEx 5
  • WingCommand: 0.9.1.1

Existing configuration and saved loadout templates are retained. The new Comms/CrewBanter option defaults to enabled.

Installation

  1. Install BepInEx 5 for Nuclear Option.

  2. Download the release archive or WingCommand.dll.

  3. Place the DLL in:

    Nuclear Option/BepInEx/plugins/WingCommand/

  4. Launch the game.

  5. Confirm that the BepInEx log contains:

    WingCommand 0.9.1.1 loaded.

Validation

  • 85 automated tests passing
  • Release build completed with zero warnings and zero errors

As always, please report problems with the aircraft involved, the order you issued, and the relevant section of BepInEx/LogOutput.log.
