Getting started
Settings › Community plugins › Browse, search for TTRPG Content Generator, install it and turn it on.
Click the scroll icon in the left ribbon, or run Open generator from the command palette. The panel opens in the right sidebar and stays open while you write.
- Pick a generator: type in the search box (it finds names, groups and races, so "orc" finds Kohrog and Half-Orc), or click one in the top row.
- Amount and Generate.
- Each result has ↵ Insert and ⧉ Copy. Above the results: Insert all and Copy all.
| Thing | What it does |
|---|---|
| ★ next to the generator's name | Pins it to the top row (kept after restarting) |
| ⟲ chips in the top row | Your last 4 generators |
| Show meanings | For name sets with meanings: Durak Nöndtrind (stone-helmet) |
| Keep previous | New results are added on top instead of replacing the old ones |
| Show more | Long results (inns, dungeons) fold; this opens them |
| Make it your own | For Drinks, Dungeons, Inns and taverns, Metals and Ship: copies the generator into a note you can edit |
Where Insert puts things: at the cursor of the note you were last writing in.
- A name goes right into your sentence: The dwarf by the name of Grendaoo … (a space is added only where needed).
- Longer results and Insert all go on their own lines.
Type @ and part of a generator's name, then pick it: a result replaces what you typed.
- Each suggestion has a second line saying what it is (Starter set · Dwarvish names).
-
@tavernfinds@InnsTaverns: the search reads the second line too. - Change the Inline trigger in the plugin's settings (or search "trigger" in Settings), for example to ;;.
- Writing a pattern? Then
@writes the generator's key instead of a result. See The @ list in patterns.
Names come from starter sets: ready-made name generators for fantasy peoples and human cultures.
Run Add a starter set from the command palette, type a race to find its set, and pick it (or Add all starter sets). The set is written into your generator folder as a normal note you can change. A note that's already there is never overwritten.
See Starter sets and languages for every set.
Run New custom generator and see Writing generators.
