The @ list in patterns

The @ list in patterns

When you type @ in a note, picking a generator normally inserts a result (a name, an inn…). But when you're writing a pattern, you want the generator's key, so the @ list writes that instead.

Where you type You type Picking Dwarvish names gives
Right after { (anywhere: pattern blocks, list rows, any note) {@Dwa {@Dwarvish
Inside a ```pattern block, not after { @Dwa {@Dwarvish} (braces added)
Anywhere else @Dwa a result, like Durak Nöndtrind
  • In those first two places, each suggestion's second line says "Writes {@Dwarvish}", so you can see what will happen before you pick.
  • After {@Dwarvish the cursor waits right after the key, so you can add values ( $race=Dwarf) or close the brace.
  • Changed the inline trigger to something like ;;? Patterns still use @ ({@Dwarvish}), so that's what gets written.
  • Want a real result inside braces in an ordinary note? Type it without the { first.

See Pattern reference for what a call can do.
