Releases: Guildbook/vigil
Release list
Vigil 0.4.3
What's new
The in-game addon is still 0.3.3, so there's nothing to update in game.
- WoW: Forever combat logs are recognized. Vigil detects WoW: Forever from the log itself, so fights are tagged with the right game version and sent to your Forever guild.
- Fixed: damage, healing, absorbs and falling or lava damage on WoW: Forever now read correctly, even though the log header says Advanced Combat Logging is off.
- Fixed: player levels on WoW: Forever. The log writes item level in that column, and Vigil no longer shows it as a level.
- Fixed: logging in on another character, or typing
/reload, now ends the open fight and follows the new character instead of mixing the two together.
Updating
- Windows and Linux: Vigil updates itself. Restart when it says an update is ready, or use Check for updates in the tray menu.
- macOS: builds are not code signed yet, so auto-update does not apply. Download the new
.dmgbelow and wait until the download has fully finished before opening it. Then replace Vigil in Applications. On first launch, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway, or runxattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Vigil.appin Terminal.
Vigil 0.4.2
What's new
The in-game addon is now 0.3.3.
- Rounded damage meter numbers in game. DPS and HPS now read like
10.7or1.2Kinstead of long decimals, on WoW: Forever and every other client. - Consistent number formatting across the live panel, the minimap tooltip and
/vigil fights.
Update the addon
After updating the app, open Vigil's Settings and find the In-game addon section. Click Update for each WoW install, then type /reload in game (or fully restart World of Warcraft).

Vigil 0.4.1
What's new
The in-game addon is now 0.3.2.
- One guild per game version. Pair a guild for each game you play, for example your WoW: Forever guild and your TBC Anniversary guild. Fights upload to the matching guild automatically. If a fight comes from a game with no paired guild, Vigil uses your other pairing and warns you.
- Your existing pairing carries over. Nothing to redo after updating. Manage pairings in Settings.
- Fixed: a Lua error in game when clicking the Vigil minimap button (WoW: Forever and TBC Anniversary).
- Clearer Advanced Combat Logging note in the addon.
Update the addon

Vigil 0.4.0
What's new
The in-game addon is now 0.3.1, and Vigil now supports TBC Anniversary.
- Live fight panel in game. Damage, DPS and idle time update in real time as you fight, even solo.
- Boss intel in game. Type
/vigil intelto see the current boss's notes without leaving WoW. - Callouts remind you of key boss mechanics as the fight goes.
- On WoW: Forever the panel uses the game's built-in damage meter, because Blizzard restricts combat events for addons there.
- TBC Anniversary support. Combat log parsing is fixed: damage and DPS were wrong, and uploads were rejected. TBC spell icons now show up too.
- Game version badge. Vigil shows which game your log comes from, and warns you when you're paired with a guild from a different game.
- A note on timing: WoW writes the combat log to disk in 48 KB chunks, so the desktop view gets fights in batches. That's fast in raids and groups and slower solo. The in-game panel is always live.
Update the addon
After updating the app, open Vigil's Settings and find the In-game addon section. Each WoW install with an older copy shows an Update button. Click it, then fully restart World of Warcraft (quit to desktop). /reload does not pick up the new addon files.

Vigil 0.3.3
What's new
The in-game addon is now 0.2.1, and the app has a new look.
- Combat logging no longer flickers on and off. World of Warcraft limits how often an addon can check whether combat logging is on (a handful of times every few seconds). The previous addon checked too often, hit that limit, and the panel would flip between on and off. Vigil now remembers the logging state instead of asking the game over and over.
- Your choice sticks. If you turn combat logging on or off yourself, Vigil respects it. Automatic logging only kicks in when you actually enter or leave a dungeon or raid.
- Cleaner in-game panel. The logging button shows a small loading spinner while it works, and the panel's text now wraps and the panel grows to fit, so nothing gets cut off.
- New app navigation. Live, Intel and Settings are now tabs at the top, replacing the old "Done" buttons. Pin and Compact/Full are icon buttons, back arrows take you to "All bosses" and "Recent fights", and pressing Esc returns you to Live.
Update the addon
After updating the app, open Vigil's Settings and find the In-game addon section. Each WoW install with an older copy shows an Update button. Click it, then fully restart World of Warcraft (quit to desktop). /reload does not pick up the new addon files.

Vigil 0.3.2
What's new
The in-game addon is now 0.2.0, with its biggest update yet.
- Minimap button and in-game panel. Click the Vigil button on the minimap (or type
/vigil) to open a panel with your logging status and settings. On clients with the addon compartment, Vigil is listed there too. Hide the minimap button with/vigil minimap. - Automatic combat logging in dungeons and raids. Vigil turns combat logging on when you enter an instance, so you don't have to remember
/combatlog. - More slash commands.
/vigil helplists them all:log, log on/log off, minimap, status, snapshot, exportandclear. - No more "out of date" warning on newer clients. The addon now declares support for TBC Anniversary (2.5.5 and 2.5.6) and the WoW Forever beta, alongside Classic Era 1.15.x and retail 12.x.
- Clearer version labels in the app. Settings has an In-game addon section that shows each WoW install's status (not installed, update available, or up to date). The addon's version is tracked separately from the app's, and the footer now reads "Vigil 0.3.2 (desktop app)".
Update the addon
After updating the app, open Vigil's Settings and find the In-game addon section. Each WoW install with an older copy shows v0.1.x installed, v0.2.0 available and an Update button. Click it, then fully restart World of Warcraft (quit to desktop). /reload does not pick up the new addon files.
Updating
- Windows and Linux: Vigil updates itself. Restart when it says an update is ready, or use Check for updates in the tray menu.
- macOS: builds are not code signed yet, so auto-update does not apply. Download the new
.dmgbelow and replace Vigil in Applications. On first launch, right-click Vigil and choose Open, or go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Vigil 0.3.1
What's new
- Crisp app icon at every size. The macOS icon is now a proper multi-resolution icon, so the small sizes (the DMG window's title bar, Finder list view, Spotlight) no longer look garbled.
- New installer window on macOS. The DMG opens to a designed window: drag Vigil onto Applications. The mounted disk also uses the Vigil icon.
- Vigil icon in the in-game AddOn List. The Vigil addon (now 0.1.1) shows its own icon in the AddOn List and is filed under Combat.
Update the addon
After updating the app, open Vigil's Settings. The Vigil addon panel now shows bundled version 0.1.1; each World of Warcraft install with the older copy (Installed: 0.1.0) has an Update button. Click it, then restart WoW (quit to desktop; /reload does not reread the addon list) to see the new icon.
Vigil 0.3.0
What's new
- Dungeon Boss Intel for every Classic dungeon. All 182 Classic Era dungeon bosses, from Ragefire Chasm to Stratholme, are written up ability by ability with what each one does and what to do about it. The Stockade is covered in full, including the rare Bruegal Ironknuckle.
- Dungeon boss fights recognized and always uploaded. Classic Era only logs encounter events in raids, so Vigil now recognizes dungeon bosses by NPC ID or name. Boss fights always upload, even when they are shorter than the trash minimum length (20 seconds by default).
- Kill and wipe detection. Each boss fight is marked as a kill or a wipe.
- Non-damage ability tracking. Boss Intel now counts casts and summons for abilities that hit nobody, so adds, fears and heals show up alongside damage.
- Grouped intel browser with search. The Intel view groups Dungeons (with level ranges) and Raids, and searches bosses, instances and abilities.
Testing tip
Classic Era and Anniversary realm logs work for testing. In game, enable Advanced Combat Logging in System > Network, type /combatlog to start logging, then run The Stockade. Vigil should pick up each boss, show its intel, mark the kill or wipe and upload the fight.
Updating
- Windows and Linux: Vigil updates itself. Restart when it says an update is ready, or use Check for updates in the tray menu.
- macOS: builds are not code signed yet, so auto-update does not apply. Download the new

Vigil 0.2.0
Vigil 0.2.0 brings Boss Intel, group views and a tray icon to the Guildbook desktop companion for WoW: Forever.
What's new
- Blizzard icons: class, faction and spell icons and boss portraits throughout the app.
- Boss Intel: Molten Core and Onyxia, with a breakdown of every boss ability Vigil has observed in your logs. Other raids are on the way.
- Group views: a group meter, deaths, damage taken and a details view for each fight.
- Tray icon: close the window and Vigil keeps running in the tray. Pause and resume, check for updates and start at login from its menu.
- One name and icon: the app is called Vigil, with its own icon, everywhere: the Dock and taskbar, notifications, the installer and the About panel.
Updating
- Windows and Linux (AppImage): Vigil 0.1.0 updates itself. It downloads 0.2.0 in the background and offers a restart.
