status effects
Throughout battle there are a variety of effects that can be inflicted upon you and others in the heat of battle. Please note that if you are fighting solo in battle the status effect turns, i.e. how long they last, is greatly reduced to help prevent status-locking you or the target.
Negative Status Effects
- Poison
Takes off a fraction of your health each turn. It can stack twice, dealing heavier damage. - Blindness
Renders the victim unable to fight for 1 turn. - Stun
Renders the victim unable to fight for 1 turn. - Stagger
Renders the victim unable to fight for 1 turn. Certain monsters, including several bosses, can become staggered after taking a certain amount of damage. - Virus

Causes the victim to attack at random for a few turns - Curse
Reduces the victim of all TP and prevents normal TP regeneration for a few turns. - Sleep

Reduces the victim's strength attribute for 3/4 for a few turns - Def Down
Reduces the victim's defense attribute for 3/4 for a few turns - Int Down
Reduces the victim's intelligence attribute for 3/4 for a few turns - Elemental Dmg
Spells of the fire, ice, lightning, water, earth or wind element will deal an extra 5% of the victim's maximum health in damage on their next turn, if the caster's level is high enough.
Note that str, int and def down won't actually show the stats being reduced in !stats. This is only calculated when it's needed in the battle formulas.
Positive Status Effects
- Reflect
Adds a barrier that bounces a single magic attack back onto the caster - Protect
Greatly reduces damage taken from standard melee attacks - Shell
Greatly reduces damage taken from magic attacks - En-Spell
Imbues the target's standard attacks with elemental power, which can cause victims the elemental damage effect, as well as increasing attack power against monsters weak to the element. - Auto Reraise
Revives the target with half the health the next time he/she/it falls. - Ethereal
Grants immunity to most physical attacks for a few turns. - Invincible
Renders the target completely immune from attack
There is also a buff named Spirit of the Hero.
This automatically applies if the player's level is a certain amount under the current battle streak. Will raise all stats and possibly HP to be closer to the streak but will reduce the amount of orbs obtained at the end of battle.
