Formaquestion
Formaquestion is the help window. You can ask it a question, search this guide and read each guide page. The guide is part of the app, so the search and the pages work with no network and no AI.
๐ฑ On a mobile-size screen, Formaquestion opens as a full-screen sheet. See On Mobile.
- Select the Help tab on the edge of the screen, or press F1.
- To close the window, select Close at its top right. On Android, you can also use the back action.
The window stays open when you go to a different screen or open a dialog. You can use the dialog and the window together. Escape closes the dialog and leaves the window open.
- Open Formaquestion.
- Select the Ask tab. In the wide layout, the conversation is on the right.
- Type your question in Ask a Question.
- Select Send, or press Enter.
- To read where the answer came from, select a section under Sources.
Your AI writes the answer from the guide sections that match your question. To end an answer early, select Stop. The text so far stays. See Ask.
- Ask a question.
- After the answer, type your next question in Ask a Question, such as "and then?".
- Select Send.
The AI gets your earlier questions and its answers, so you do not have to say the topic again. To start again on a new topic, select Clear Conversation in the title bar's โฎ menu.
- Ask a question.
- Under the answer, select Take Me There.
The button opens the screen, dialog or tab that the top source under Sources describes. The top source is the one whose steps the answer copies. When the answer copies none, it's the first one that is not the guide section of the screen you have open. The button sits next to Sources. On a desktop screen, the window stays open, so you can read the steps while you work. On a mobile-size screen, the sheet closes.
- When the button needs you to leave a game in progress, the app asks first. Select Cancel to stay. The game does not change.
- When the button needs you to close a World Editor that has unsaved changes, the editor asks first, as it does when you close it. A jump to Settings opens over the editor and does not ask.
- The button does not show when the answer is not from the guide, when the top source has no screen, or when the answer stopped or failed.
- Turn on Image Attachments. See Settings.
- Open Formaquestion and select the Ask tab.
- Paste a screenshot into Ask a Question, drop it on the field, or select Attach images and pick a file.
- Type your question, such as "what is this?".
- Select Send.
Your model must read images. The screenshot goes with that question only. A follow-up does not send it again.
- Open Formaquestion.
- Select the Search tab.
- Type two or more letters in Search the Guide.
- Select a result to read its section.
The best matches are first. Each result shows the section, its page and the start of its text.
- Open Formaquestion.
- Select the Guide tab.
- Select a page to see its sections.
- Select a section.
To go back to the list of pages, select Contents above the section.
- Open Formaquestion.
- Select Open Guide in the title bar. Or select โฎ, then Open Guide.
- Type in Search the Guide, or select a page in the contents on the left.
- Select a section. It shows on the right.
- To go back to the small window, select Close Guide, or press Escape.
The Open Guide button is in the title bar of the Full style, next to Wide View. The Minimal and Bubble styles have Open Guide in the โฎ menu only. The full screen and the small window share one Guide view. They have the same search text, open pages and section, so you keep your place both ways. See Guide.
- Open Formaquestion, and open the section that you want to read in the wiki.
- Select โฎ, then Open Wiki. In the full-screen Guide, select Open Wiki in the header.
- In the confirm, select Open.
Your browser opens the wiki on the page and heading of the section that shows. With no section open, it opens the wiki home page. See The Wiki Confirm.
The confirm shows before your browser opens the wiki. It names the wiki page that opens.
- Open opens the page in your browser.
- Cancel closes the confirm, and the app stays as it is. The confirm stays on, also with the box checked.
- Donโt Ask Again, checked when you select Open, skips the confirm next time.
- To turn the confirm back on, select the Confirm Before Opening the Wiki checkbox in the Window group of the General tab. See General.
- Select Wide View in the title bar, or open the Guide full screen.
- Open a few sections.
- Select Back or Forward, next to the title.
You can also press Alt+Left for Back and Alt+Right for Forward while the cursor is in the window. The mouse back and forward buttons do the same while the pointer is over it. They never change the screen of the app. A button is off when there is no section in its direction. See The Window.
- Open the screen, dialog or tab that you need help with.
- Open Formaquestion.
- Select the row under Help for This Screen.
The row is the first item on the Search tab and on the Guide tab. It names the guide section for the screen, the dialog and the tab that you have open. It changes when you open a different one. A screen with no guide section shows no row. The row does not show while you search.
- Drag the title bar to move the window. In the minimal chat, drag the grip on the pill.
- Move your pointer near any side or corner of the window and drag the handle that shows there. A side changes one dimension, a corner changes both. Each chat style keeps its own size.
To see the contents and a section side by side, select Wide View in the title bar. Select it again to go back.
- Drag the Help tab along the edge of the screen. It goes to the nearest of the four edges.
- Release it.
With the keyboard, press Tab until the Help tab has focus. Then press the arrow keys.
- Select โฎ in the Formaquestion title bar, or in the pill above a bare column or over the mascot.
- Under Chat Style, select Auto, Minimal or Full.
You can also set it in the Window group of the General tab. Both places change the same setting.
- Auto is Bubble while the mascot is on, and Full while it's off.
- Bubble shows the mascot speaking the newest answer from a speech bubble. It needs the mascot, so Auto is the only way to it.
- In Bubble, drag the mascot to move the window. The pill and the mascot's grip show when the window opens and hide after one second, and the speech bubble's box fades with them. The chat's grip stays in view, on the chat corner with the most free screen beyond the window. They come back when your pointer is over the mascot or a piece, when keyboard focus is on a piece, and while the โฎ menu is open. On a touch screen they stay up. With reduced motion, they show and hide with no fade.
- Minimal is a bare chat column. Full is the framed window.
- Full with the mascot on keeps the mascot beside the frame.
- The window stays where it was, and your conversation stays. Each style keeps its own size. See The Window.
- Select โฎ in the Formaquestion title bar, then Settings. The General tab opens first.
- Under Window, move Backdrop.
The backdrop is a panel behind the bare chat column, in the color of the app. A higher value hides more of the screen behind the text. The setting runs from 0 to 100% in steps of 5, and starts at 60%. Set 0 to draw no panel. The panel shows behind the Bubble and Minimal styles.
- Scroll up in the conversation to read an earlier answer.
- Select Scroll to End, the round arrow above the question field.
The arrow shows when the end of the conversation is more than half a window height away. It goes away when you get near the end. After you select it, new text keeps scrolling into view as it arrives. The framed window and the bare column both have the arrow. See Ask.
- Select โฎ in the Formaquestion title bar, or in the pill above a bare column.
- Under Mascot Position, select Above, Below, Inside or Outside.
You can also set it in the Mascot Position dropdown in the Window group of the General tab. Both places change the same setting, and this device keeps it.
- Above stands the mascot over the chat, and Below under it. The chat stops growing at a set share of the screen height, so the mascot always has room. If the chat is taller when you select one of them, it shrinks to that height.
- Inside stands the mascot beside the chat, toward the middle of the screen. Outside stands it beside the chat, toward the nearer edge of the screen.
- The side flips only when the piece you drag crosses the middle of the screen. Drag the pill and the chat crosses to the mascot's other side; drag the mascot and the chat crosses to hers.
- The reader stays beside the chat.
- Under Bubble, only Inside and Outside apply, so the dropdown and the โฎ menu offer those two. Without the mascot, there is nothing to place, so they are hidden.
- The โฎ menu of the mobile-size sheet has no Mascot Position choices, since the sheet shows no mascot.
- Select โฎ in the Formaquestion title bar, then Settings.
- On the General tab, move Mascot Scale in the Window group.
The first stop is Auto. Auto fits the mascot to the height of the chat, and follows the chat when you resize it. Any other stop is a percent of the base image's size in pixels, from 25% to 150%. A percent mascot stays level with the bottom of the chat column and rises above it. It never grows past the room on the screen.
The Mascot tab's preview does not change with Mascot Scale. The window does. This device keeps the setting, outside your mascot card. It is hidden while the mascot is off. See Mascot.
- Open the Mascot tab in Formaquestion Settings.
- Point at the preview. The Mask box shows eight handles and a center grip.
- Drag a handle to move one edge, or a corner to move two. Drag inside the box to move the whole box.
- Watch Head View, next to the preview. It shows the result as you drag.
To draw a new box, drag on the preview outside the current one. With the keyboard, press Tab to a handle, then press an arrow key to move it one pixel. Shift with an arrow key moves it ten pixels. The handles fade while your pointer is away, unless one has focus or you are dragging. On a touch screen they stay drawn. See The Mask.
- Select โฎ in the Formaquestion title bar, then Settings.
- Select the Endpoint tab.
- In the editor, select Add New Preset. The new preset is a copy of the one under the heading, and Answer Endpoint moves to it.
- Enter the endpoint, token and model of the other AI.
Your game keeps its own AI. The editor always edits the preset that Answer Endpoint uses. To edit another preset, set Answer Endpoint to it first. To send the AI Search request to a small, fast model, set Search Endpoint to a preset. See Endpoint.
- Open the Endpoint tab in Formaquestion Settings.
- Read the heading above the editor. It says Edit and the name of the preset that Answer Endpoint uses.
- To edit another preset, set Answer Endpoint to it. The heading and the editor change with it.
- To try a variant, select Add New Preset. The copy opens in the editor, and Answer Endpoint moves to it. The first preset stays as it was.
While Answer Endpoint is Use Active Endpoint, the heading names the active preset and says Active Endpoint. A delete of the preset in use moves Answer Endpoint back to Use Active Endpoint. A change to a preset applies to the game too. See Endpoint.
- Select โฎ in the Formaquestion title bar, then Settings. The General tab opens first.
- Select the Reasoning checkbox.
- Pick a level in the list that appears.
- Ask a question. The Thinking block above the answer shows how the AI reasoned.
Answers take longer with reasoning on. The row shows a note instead of the checkbox when your model cannot reason. See General.
- Select Turn On on the Semantic Search card at the top of the window. See The Semantic Search Card.
- Wait while the app downloads the small model. The card shows a progress bar.
- Ask a question, or type in the Search tab. When the download is done, both also find sections by meaning.
If no card shows, use the setting instead:
- Select โฎ in the Formaquestion title bar, then Settings. The General tab opens first.
- Select the Semantic Search checkbox. A progress bar shows on the row.
If the download fails, the checkbox clears and Retry shows. The card has Retry too. Until the model is ready, questions use the other sources.
- Select โฎ in the Formaquestion title bar, then Settings.
- Select the Prompts tab.
- Select Duplicate & Edit, or Add New Presetโฆ in the preset list.
- Select Answer, Search, Lookup or Code, and edit the text. Keep the chips that the app reads back.
- Close the dialog and ask a question. The next request uses your text.
Default is read-only, so your copy is the one you edit. Select Compare to see what a new release changed, or Reset to start again. Select Preview above a prompt to read it as your AI gets it. See Prompts.
- Open the Prompts tab in Formaquestion Settings.
- Select a custom preset. Default shows its options read-only.
- Select Options under Answer, Search or Lookup.
- Check Max Output, Custom Temperature or Custom Repetition Penalty, then set a value.
Each prompt has its own options for its own request. Code has none: it goes out with the answer request. Clear a box to return that field to the value of Default. The preset file carries the options. See Prompts.
- Select โฎ in the Formaquestion title bar, then Settings.
- Select the Tools tab.
- Under My Tools, select New Tool.
- Fill in Definition, Parameters and Handler.
- Select Save Tool. The new Tool is on.
- Open a world in the game or the editor.
- Ask a question that needs the Tool.
Your AI calls the Tool when the question needs what it returns. The endpoint must take function calls. See Tools.
- On the first device, open the Prompts tab.
- Select your custom preset.
- Select Export. On a narrow screen, open the Preset Actions menu first. Formamorph saves a
.help-preset.jsonfile. - Copy the file to the other device.
- On the other device, open the Prompts tab.
- Select Import and choose the file.
The import adds the preset and selects it. See The Preset File.
- Ask a question.
- Select โฎ in the Formaquestion title bar, then AI Context.
The dialog shows one question per page, the newest first, with its request cards. See AI Context.
- Select โฎ in the Formaquestion title bar, then Settings. The General tab opens first.
- Clear Keyword Search.
- Clear AI Search.
- Clear Semantic Search.
- Clear Use the Open Screen.
- Select the Tools tab and check that read_guide is off.
- Ask a question.
The request now holds your question alone. The answer has no note that it is not from the guide. To give the chat a purpose, write your own prompt and add Tools. Set History Length to the number of earlier exchanges you want it to keep.
Formaquestion is one window for the whole app. It shows above every dialog, and it keeps its conversation, its search text and its open section while the app is open.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Title bar | Drag it to move the window |
| Back and Forward | Move through the sections you opened. They show next to the title while Wide View is on. See How to Go Back and Forward in the Guide. |
| Wide View | Changes between the narrow and the wide layout. It stays lit while the wide view is on |
| Open Guide | Shows the Guide full screen. The Full style has it in the title bar. See Guide. |
| โฎ | Opens a menu with Clear Conversation, the Chat Style choices, the Mascot Position choices, Open Guide, Open Wiki, AI Context and Settings. The mobile-size sheet has no Mascot Position choices. |
| Close | Closes the window |
| Bottom right corner | Drag it to change the size of the window |
F1 does one of three things:
| When you press F1 | Result |
|---|---|
| The window is closed | The window opens |
| The window is open, and you are typing somewhere else | The cursor goes to the window |
| The cursor is in the window | The window closes |
- The window stays whole on the screen. When the browser window gets smaller, Formaquestion moves back inside it.
- This device keeps the place of the window and a size for Minimal and Full, and the mascot's own place for Bubble. A change between Minimal and Full keeps the place. They are not in a backup or an export.
- The narrow layout shows one tab at a time. The wide layout shows the search field and the contents on the left, and the conversation or a section on the right. Back to Conversation, above a section, shows the conversation again. The layout changes at a width of 560 pixels, so the corner changes it too.
- The Back and Forward history holds the last 50 steps. Each section you open is a step, and so is a change from a section to the conversation in Wide View. Back returns you to the place you had in that section. The history stays when you close the window or change the layout, and a reload clears it. A section you open after Back replaces the steps ahead of it.
- The Minimal and Bubble styles read in a separate reader beside the chat. That reader adds no steps and has no Back or Forward. Alt+Left, Alt+Right and the mouse buttons work there only in the full-screen Guide, which has Back and Forward in every style.
- In the full screen, Back and Forward skip the conversation. They go to the closest section in their direction.
- While the welcome animation plays, the Help tab does not show and F1 does nothing.
- The Chat Style sets how the window looks. Full is this window. Minimal is a bare chat column with no title bar, no tabs and no Wide View. Bubble shows the mascot speaking the newest answer. Auto is Bubble while the mascot is on and Full while it's off. Pick a style in the โฎ menu or on the General tab. See Mascot.
The Ask tab sends your question to your AI, together with the guide sections that match it. The answer shows as the AI writes it.
Until the answer starts, a line under your question says what it waits on: Checking your AIโฆ for a connection check, Searching with your AIโฆ for the AI Search request, Searching the guideโฆ for Semantic Search, Waiting for your AIโฆ for the answer request, and Looking upโฆ while the AI reads more of the guide. While the model reasons, the Thinking header shows the wait instead. With the mascot on, these lines say its name: Morphie is getting readyโฆ, Morphie is choosing guide sectionsโฆ, Morphie is thinkingโฆ, Morphie is reading the guideโฆ, Morphie did not answer, and the empty conversation asks you to Ask Morphie how to do something in Formamorph. A custom mascot's lines use its own name.
- Sources, under an answer, lists the guide sections that the AI got. Select one to read it.
- Take Me There, next to Sources, opens the screen that the top source describes. See How to Go to the Screen an Answer Describes.
- Thinking, above an answer, shows how the AI reasoned, when your model reasons. It starts closed. Open or close one, and later answers start the same way.
- When the guide does not cover your question, the AI answers from general knowledge. A note above the answer says that it is not from the guide and can be wrong about Formamorph. Nearest Sections then takes the place of Sources and lists the guide sections closest to your question.
- The request holds your question and those guide sections. It holds nothing from your saves. It holds nothing from your worlds either, unless test_stat_code or one of your My Tools reads the world you have open. See Tools.
- The request also holds your last four questions and the AI's answers to them, as text. It does not hold their guide sections again. History Length sets how many.
- Before the answer, the app sends one more short request, while AI Search is on. In it, your AI gets the list of every guide heading and chooses the sections that answer your question. The answer then uses those sections together with the sections that the other searches find. When that request fails or chooses no section, the answer uses the other searches alone.
- The search for a follow-up also uses your previous question, so a short question such as "and then?" finds the same topic.
- With Image Attachments on, a question can carry up to 4 images, the same as an action. Attach images shows next to the field, and a paste or a drop on the field adds an image. The images go with that question only, and the app does not store them.
- Clear Conversation, in the โฎ menu, removes every question and answer, and ends an answer that is coming in.
- While a game turn generates, Send waits. Search and Guide still work.
- The answer is in your AI Language. Control names stay as the guide writes them. See Settings.
- Enter sends the question. Shift+Enter starts a new line.
- Stop ends an answer and keeps its text.
- Scroll to End, the round arrow above the question field, shows while the end of the conversation is more than half a window height away. Select it to go to the end and keep following the answer. See How to Return to the Newest Answer.
- With no AI connected, Send shows the guide sections that match your question. The Demo AI always counts as connected.
- When the AI does not answer, an error message shows, and the guide sections that match your question show in place of the answer. Text that came before the failure stays.
- The conversation stays while the app is open, also when you close the window or go to a different screen. The app does not store it, so a reload or a restart empties it.
- The answer comes from the Answer Endpoint, with the Reasoning setting. See Formaquestion Settings.
An answer can be wrong. Use Sources to check it against the guide.
The Search tab finds sections by the words you type. It needs no network and no AI.
With Semantic Search on, it also finds sections by meaning. The word matches show at once. The meaning matches join them when you stop typing. Until the model is on your device, the tab uses words alone.
- A search starts at two letters.
- A word in a section's heading counts more than a word in its text.
- A section that has more of your words is higher in the list than a section that repeats one word.
- A plural finds the singular: "blueprints" finds Blueprint.
- The start of a word, or a word with a typo, also finds sections. The first four letters of Placeholder find it, and so does the word with one letter missing. The search tries this only when no section has the word in any form, and only for words of four letters or more. A word as you typed it counts more.
- Guide sections are higher in the list than changelog sections.
- A question such as "what's new?" or "what changed?" lists the newest release first. Name a version, such as "what changed in 3.1.1?", to see that release first.
- No sections match shows when no word matches. With Semantic Search on, it also needs no section close in meaning.
The search reads each page of this guide, the Glossary, the World Format page and the newest releases in the Changelog.
In the wide layout, the results replace the contents on the left while the search field has two or more letters.
The Guide tab lists each page of this guide. Select a page to show or hide its sections.
- Introduction is the text at the top of a page.
- A long section is in parts. Each part has a number, such as (Part 2).
- On This Page, under a section, lists the other sections of the same page.
- A link to a guide page opens that section in the window.
- A link to a website opens in your browser.
- Open Guide shows the Guide full screen. See How to Open the Guide Full Screen.
The full screen has the search field and the contents on the left, and the section on the right. With no section open, the right side says Select a section to read. The header holds Back and Forward, Open Wiki and Close Guide. Escape closes the full screen too, and the window shows the section you ended on. A mobile-size screen shows one part at a time. It shows the contents, or a section with Contents above it.
The card offers Semantic Search at the top of the window. It says Recommended and that the app downloads a small model once. It shows in each chat style. You can ask a question while it shows.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Turn On | Turns on Semantic Search and starts the download. The card shows the progress, then hides when the model is ready. |
| No Thanks | Hides the card. It does not show again. The Semantic Search checkbox in General still works. |
| Retry | Shows after a failed download. Starts the download again. |
| Dismiss | Shows after a failed download. Hides the card. Retry stays on the Semantic Search row in General. |
- You see the card until you choose, also when you used Formaquestion before.
- Close the window with no choice, and the card shows again the next time you open it.
- The card does not show when you already set the Semantic Search checkbox.
- The card does not show when the model is already on your device. Semantic Search turns on with no card.
- After a reload, a failed download shows no card. Use Retry on the Semantic Search row.
Formaquestion Settings opens from Settings in the โฎ menu of the Formaquestion title bar. The window closes while the settings are open and opens again when you close them. It has five tabs: General, Endpoint, Prompts, Tools and Mascot.
- The Formaquestion window stays above the settings, so you can change a setting and ask a question to see the effect.
- This device keeps each setting. The settings are not in a backup or an export.
The General tab sets how the window looks, how your AI answers, how a question finds its guide sections, and what the request holds. Its rows are in four groups: Window, Answer, Search and Request. Mascot, Chat Style, Mascot Position, Mascot Scale, Backdrop and Confirm Before Opening the Wiki are in Window.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Mascot | On | Shows the mascot with a bare chat column. It takes effect at once, with no Save. With it off, the Mascot tab disables every control and shows a link back to this row. |
| Chat Style | Auto | Sets how the window looks: Auto, Minimal or Full. Auto is Bubble with the Mascot on. The โฎ menu has the same three choices. |
| Mascot Position | Outside | Sets where the mascot stands around the chat: Above, Below, Inside or Outside. The โฎ menu has the same choices. Under Bubble, only Inside and Outside show. Hidden while the mascot is off. |
| Mascot Scale | 25% | Sizes the mascot beside the chat. Auto fits the height of the chat. A percent, from 25% to 150%, is a share of the base image's size in pixels. This device keeps it, outside your mascot card. Hidden while the mascot is off. |
| Backdrop | 60% | Shades the screen behind the chat so the text stands out, from 0 to 100% in steps of 5. The backdrop shows with the Bubble and Minimal styles. Set 0 for none. |
| Confirm Before Opening the Wiki | On | Asks before Open Wiki opens your browser. Donโt Ask Again in the confirm clears it. See How to Open the Wiki. |
| Reasoning | Off | Lets your AI reason before it answers, so answers take longer. The levels and the budget come from the Answer Endpoint. Global follows Native Reasoning under Settings โ Output. The AI Search request never reasons. For a model that cannot reason, a note shows in place of the control. |
| Answer Reveal | Fade | Sets how each answer appears as it streams. Choose reveal animationโฆ opens the same dialog as Narration Reveal, with its own values: a change to one never changes the other. With every effect off, answers show with no animation. |
| Keyword Search | On | Finds the guide sections that have the words of your question |
| AI Search | On | Sends one more request for each question, in which your AI chooses guide sections from the list of headings |
| Semantic Search | Off | Finds guide sections by meaning, with a small model on your device. The first time you turn it on, the app downloads the model and shows the progress. If the download fails, the checkbox clears and Retry starts it again. Until the model is ready, questions use the other sources. A card at the top of the window offers it first. See The Semantic Search Card. |
| Use the Open Screen | On | Sends the open screen, your selected item, and its guide section |
| History Length | 4 | Sets how many earlier questions and answers each request holds, from 0 to 20. 0 sends each question alone. |
The selected item is a stat, trait, entity, location or dictionary entry open in the World Editor, or the entity open in the Entity Editor. Its name goes with the screen, such as "Code tab of the stat Courage".
A question about code always sends the Quick Reference of the Stat Code Guide. On a stat's Code tab, it comes second, after the tab's own section. From any other screen, it comes first, and the answer request does not name the screen.
With Keyword Search, AI Search and Use the Open Screen all off, no other guide section can reach your AI. A question that is not about code then goes alone, and the answer has no note that it is not from the guide.
When a search runs and finds no section, the answer still gets that note.
The Endpoint tab sets where help questions go. Help can use a different AI than your game.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Answer Endpoint | Use Active Endpoint | Sends your questions to this endpoint for answers |
| Search Endpoint | Same as Answer | Sends the AI Search request to this endpoint. A small, fast model works well here. |
- Use Active Endpoint follows the endpoint you pick in Settings โ AI Endpoints.
- A preset you choose shows whether it answers. Select Recheck to check again.
- If you delete a preset that a setting names, that setting goes back to its default.
- The Ask tab says when your AI is not connected. It checks the Answer Endpoint.
The two settings share one row. Under them is the same preset editor as Settings โ AI Endpoints, on the same presets.
- The editor has no preset list. It always edits the preset that Answer Endpoint uses. Its heading, Edit and the preset's name, changes when you change Answer Endpoint. While Answer Endpoint follows the active endpoint, the heading names that preset and says Active Endpoint.
- Add New Preset adds a copy of the preset you are editing, moves Answer Endpoint to the copy, and opens the copy in the editor.
- Delete the preset that Answer Endpoint uses, and Answer Endpoint goes back to Use Active Endpoint.
- A change to a preset applies everywhere that preset is used, the game included.
The Prompts tab holds the help prompts: the text that tells your AI how to answer. The prompts are in a preset, apart from the prompt presets of your game. A change to the game's preset never changes help.
| Prompt | What it does |
|---|---|
| Answer | Tells your AI how to answer from the guide sections in the request |
| Search | Tells your AI how to choose guide sections from the list of headings, for the AI Search request |
| Lookup | Tells your AI how to answer when it can read more sections through the lookup function |
| Code | Tells your AI how to write stat code. It goes after a question about code, and after any question from a stat's Code tab while Use the Open Screen is on |
- Default is read-only. Its text comes from the app, so each release updates it.
- Duplicate & Edit in the notice above a Default prompt makes a copy of the preset and opens it for edits. The Duplicate button beside the preset list does the same. Add New Presetโฆ in the list asks for a name first.
- A custom preset has Rename, Reset and Delete beside the list. On a narrow screen, they are in the Preset Actions menu. Reset returns every prompt and its options to the text of this release, after it asks. When you delete the preset in use, help goes back to Default.
- Reset at the bottom right of a custom prompt returns that one prompt to the text of this release, after it asks. A custom preset does not get the updates of a release on its own.
- Compare, beside Reset, opens a diff of your text against the text of this release. Text you added is tinted. Text you removed is struck through. Raw shows your text as it is. The button is off for a prompt that equals the default.
- This device keeps the presets, with the other Formaquestion settings.
- Export beside the list saves the preset to a file, with your My Tools and the switches of the Tools tab. Default exports too, and importing that file adds a custom preset.
- Import beside the list adds the preset from a file and makes it the one in use.
Each prompt editor is a chip editor, as in Settings โ Prompts. The chips are the parts the app reads back or names elsewhere:
| Chip | In | What it sends |
|---|---|---|
| Not in Guide Marker | Answer, Lookup | The line your AI writes first when the guide does not cover the question. The app reads that line and shows the notice above the answer. |
| Lookup Function | Lookup | The name of the function your AI calls to read more guide sections |
| Search Limit | Search | The most sections one search reply names. The app reads that many sections at most, whatever the prompt says. |
| Reply Format | Search | The rule for how the search reply is written, so the app can read it |
| Mascot Voice | Answer, Lookup | Your mascot's name and Voice: "You are Morphie." for the mascot that comes with the app, then the Voice, with a line that keeps the guide's steps and control names as the guide writes them. With the mascot off, or an empty Voice, it sends nothing. |
A chip sends its text, and no chip sends nothing. Remove the Not in Guide Marker chip from a custom Answer prompt, and your AI is not told to mark an answer that is not from the guide. The guide sections and your question are not in a prompt: the app builds that part of the request.
Each prompt editor has an Edit tab and a Preview tab. Preview shows the prompt as your AI gets it, with each chip replaced by its text. Mascot Voice shows your mascot's Voice while the mascot is on.
Each prompt has an Options row under it in the list of prompts. The options apply to that prompt's request: Answer to the answer request, Search to the AI Search request, and Lookup to the answer request when your AI can call read_guide.
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Max Output | 800 tokens for Answer and Lookup, 150 for Search | Sets how long the reply can run |
| Custom Temperature | 0.2 | Sets how freely the reply is worded |
| Custom Repetition Penalty | 1 | Sets how hard the reply avoids repeated words |
Each preset has its own options, and a copy of a preset takes them. Default shows them read-only, so each release updates them. A box that is off uses the default.
See How to Move a Custom Preset to Another Device for the steps. The file holds the three prompts, the options of each prompt, your My Tools, and the switches and Max Calls per Request of the Tools tab. It holds no endpoint, token or other setting.
- If you already have a preset with that name, the import adds a number to the new name.
- If you already have a Tool with that name, the import skips that Tool and names it. Your Tool keeps its own switch.
- The switches in the file apply to its Tools and to the built-in functions, such as read_guide.
- A file with a Script Tool that is on shows a warning, because a script runs code when the AI calls it.
- A file from a different version, or a file that is not complete, is refused. Nothing changes.
The Tools tab lists the functions your AI can call while it answers. It uses the layout of Settings โ Tools: the list on the left, and the selected function on the right. Built-In holds the functions that ship with the app. My Tools holds the Tools you make for help questions.
| Function | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| read_guide | Off | The guide lookup. It starts off, and it runs only while the Answer Endpoint takes function calls. Your AI reads more guide sections when the sections in the request don't answer the question. It can search the guide by words or read sections by id. It roughly quadruples the input tokens of a question. |
| roll | Off | A dice roll. Ask your AI to roll, such as "roll two six-sided dice", and it rolls and gives you the total. |
| test_stat_code | On | The code test. On a question about stat code, your AI checks its code and runs it once before it answers, as Test Code does. It reads the world you have open, so the names of its stats, traits, entities, placeholders and dictionaries can go to your Answer Endpoint. When your AI names no stat, it tests the stat you have selected. It never changes the world. With no world open, it checks the code without the names and does not run it. Your AI is told to fix what the test finds, and to give its best code and name the error that remains after its last call. |
- Enabled turns a function on or off. This device keeps the switches, for every help preset.
- Max Calls per Request sets how many times your AI can call the function for one question, from 1 to 20. Leave it blank for the default: 3 for read_guide, 4 for roll, 3 for test_stat_code.
- The panel also shows the text your AI reads about the function, and its parameters.
- read_guide, roll and test_stat_code are part of the app. You can't edit, copy or delete them.
- The Tools switch under Settings โ Output does not apply to Formaquestion.
A function goes out only when the Answer Endpoint takes function calls. If it doesn't, or the app hasn't confirmed it yet, the tab shows a note, and each question goes out as one request with no function. The default cloud endpoint takes no function calls.
- Set Answer Endpoint to a model that takes function calls, such as a local model.
- Open the Tools tab, select read_guide, and turn on Enabled. It starts off.
- Ask a question. Your AI reads more sections when it needs them, and the answer lists them under Sources.
Turn Enabled off to skip the extra input tokens. Each question then goes out as one request with the matching sections in it.
My Tools. Make your own Tools for help questions, and Formaquestion can work as a chat assistant for the world you have open. They are a list of their own: a Tool you make here never goes to a game prompt, and a Tool from Settings โ Tools does not show here.
- New Tool opens the same editor as Settings โ Tools. See The Tool Editor. A Tool can't take the name of a built-in function: read_guide or roll.
- Enabled turns a Tool on or off. A Tool you save here starts on, and a Tool from a Tool pack is off until you turn it on. A help preset file sets the switches of its own Tools. This device keeps the switches.
- Max Calls per Request caps the calls for one question. Leave it blank for the default of 4. There is no Offered To, because one request takes every Tool that is on.
- Edit and Delete act on the selected Tool. Delete can't be undone.
- Try It runs the Tool on the world you have open in the game or the World Editor, else on a sample world.
A Tool that's on reads the world you have open, so text from that world can go to your Answer Endpoint. The tab says so under the list. In the game, a Tool reads the playthrough as a game Tool does. In the World Editor, it reads the world as you have it, unsaved edits included. With the World Editor open from the game, a Tool reads the editor's world until you close it. On the Main Menu, a Tool reads no world and returns its empty result.
- Next to My Tools, select Export Tools to save
tools.json, or Import Tools to add Tools from a file. - The file is the same Tool pack as Settings โ Tools, so a pack from one list opens in the other. An import skips a Tool you already have, and names it. A file with a Script Tool shows a warning, because a script runs code when the AI calls it.
The Mascot tab edits the mascot's rig: a base image with layers drawn on top. The mascot stands beside the chat and reacts to your questions. The mascot's name is its preset's name. Your AI answers as that name, and a screen reader reads it on the mascot. The Mascot switch is in the Window group on the General tab. With the mascot off, this tab disables every control and shows "The Mascot is off. Select โGeneralโ to turn it on." Select General in that line to open the General tab.
You can keep more than one mascot. The Preset list at the top of the tab picks the one Formaquestion shows. Morphie is the mascot that comes with the app. She is read-only, and she updates with each release. To change her, select Duplicate and edit the copy.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Duplicate | Copies the mascot you see into one you can edit, and selects it |
| Rename | Renames this mascot |
| Delete | Deletes this mascot and the images no other mascot uses. It asks first. |
| Reset | Puts Morphie's rig in place of this mascot's. Cancel takes it back. |
| Import | Adds a mascot from a card file, and selects it. See The Mascot Card. |
| Export | Saves this mascot as a card |
| View full screen | Opens the whole tab full screen. Exit full screen or Escape returns it. |
Only Duplicate, Import, Export and View full screen show while Morphie is selected. Point at a button to see what it does. On a narrow screen, the buttons are in the Preset Actions menu.
Your changes on the tab show in the preview at once. The window, the face your AI picks and AI Context keep the saved mascot until you select Save at the bottom of the tab. Cancel drops your changes. When you change the mascot, the tab or close Formaquestion Settings with changes not saved, the app asks you to save them, exit without saving, or stay.
With the mascot on and the Chat Style at Auto or Bubble, the mascot speaks the newest answer from a speech bubble that points at its head. A long answer grows up to the top of the screen, then scrolls inside the bubble. Under the bubble, a strip holds Previous Answer and Next Answer at its ends. Between them are the answer's Thinking toggle, Sources and Take Me There. The open Thinking text shows inside the bubble. Sources opens a list of the guide sections the answer used; select one to open it in the reader. Your question and the ask field stand at the mascot's feet. Before your first question, only the mascot and the ask field show. Drag the mascot, or the pill over its head, to move the window. The bubble stands on the side of the mascot with more room. It moves to the other side when you drag the mascot past the middle of the screen. Drag the corner grip on the bubble to change the chat's width and height. The Backdrop fills the size you set, and a short answer's bubble stays small inside it, as in the minimal column. Drag the grip on the mascot's top corner to change its size; it sets the same Mascot Scale as the General tab. In the head view, the bubble, the head with the pill, the strip, your question and the ask field stand in one column.
With the Chat Style at Minimal, Formaquestion has no frame, no title bar and no tabs. It is a bare chat column with the mascot beside it. The mascot stands on the side of the column that has more room on the screen. It moves to the other side when you drag the column past the middle of the screen, and the head on the pill moves to the same end. Select a source name under an answer to open the guide section in a reader on the other side of the column. Close the reader with Close Reader. The column and the mascot stay. The pill above the column holds the grip, the โฎ menu and Close, and the grip moves all three pieces. Drag the corner under the ask field to change the column's size.
With the Chat Style at Full, the whole mascot stands beside the framed window, on the same side rule. Its height follows the frame while Mascot Scale is Auto. A mobile-size screen shows no mascot with the framed sheet.
The tab has two columns on a wide dialog. The preview stays in view on the left, and the other rows scroll on the right. On a narrower dialog, the preview comes first and the whole tab scrolls.
| Row | What it does |
|---|---|
| Mascot | Shows the mascot with a bare chat column. On by default. |
| Voice | Tells your AI how help answers sound while the mascot is on. The Mascot Voice chip sends this text. |
| Preview | Shows the Idle look, or what you select. Select a layer to see the base with all of that layer's overlays. Select one overlay to see the base with that overlay alone. Drag the Mask on it to set the head view. The Transition rows and Play are in the same box. |
| Head View | Shows the part of the mascot inside the box. A mobile-size screen shows only the head, at the pill. On a desktop, Show Head Only in the pill shows the head in place of the whole mascot. Show Full Mascot goes back. With a percent Mascot Scale, the head draws at that share of its size, and never taller than the chat. |
| Base Image | Draws under every layer. Upload your own image, or remove yours to go back to the default. |
| Layers | Lists every layer in draw order, with its name, its kind and its Enabled checkbox |
| Initial Look, Idle Look, Thinking Look | Set the face and the state that the mascot shows at each moment. See The Looks. |
| Transition | Sets how the mascot moves when its look changes: None, Dissolve or Jelly. Play shows it on the preview. |
- Drag a layer by its grip to change the draw order. A layer lower in the list draws on top.
- Select a layer to expand it and show it on the preview. Collapse it, and the preview goes back to the Idle look.
- Expand a layer to change its name and its kind. An Expression is a face your AI can pick. A State stacks with the face, such as the arms.
- Each layer holds overlay images, drawn in order and stretched to the base size. Drag an overlay to move it, or upload more.
- The slots take image files only, not links. This device keeps your images, outside the settings.
- When you save, the app deletes each image you removed that no layer of any mascot uses. Cancel deletes the images you added since your last save.
A look is one expression and one state. Each look row has two lists, one for the expression and one for the state. The lists show only layers that are on, and each list has None.
| Look | When the mascot shows it |
|---|---|
| Initial Look | The first time the mascot appears after the app starts. It stays until you send your first question. Morphie waves. |
| Thinking Look | From the moment you send a question until the answer starts. It stays while your AI reasons. |
| Idle Look | When the answer starts. Its state shows with every answer. Its expression shows when your AI picked no face. |
- Your AI can pick a face for its answer when the Answer Endpoint takes function calls. It picks from the expressions that are on. The face shows when the answer starts, and it stays until your next question.
- On an endpoint with no function calls, the mascot still waves, thinks and rests. Your AI picks no face.
- A look that names a layer you turned off draws nothing for that layer. The tab shows a warning that names the look.
- Each face call shows in AI Context with the other tool rounds.
The Mask is the box that sets the head view. It has eight handles, one on each corner and one on each edge, and a grip in the center. Head View shows the result while you drag.
- Drag an edge handle to move that edge. Drag a corner handle to move two edges. Drag inside the box to move all of it.
- The box stays inside the base image and above a small minimum size.
- Drag outside the box to draw a new one. A drag under 16 pixels of the base image counts as a press and keeps the Mask.
- Press Tab to a handle, then an arrow key. A side handle moves along its own axis, and a corner or the center grip moves both ways. One press moves one pixel of the base image, and Shift moves ten. Each key press saves at once.
- The handles fade while your pointer is away from the box. On a touch screen they stay drawn. With reduced motion, they show and hide with no fade.
- Head View sits in a fixed slot. A wide Mask shows a shorter head, so the slot does not move while you drag.
Reset restores Morphie's Mask. This device keeps your choice between Show Head Only and Show Full Mascot.
The mascot plays its transition each time its look changes: from the Initial Look to the Thinking Look, from the Thinking Look to a face, from a face to the Thinking Look on your next question, and when your AI picks a face. A change during a transition restarts it from the frame on the screen.
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| None | Swaps the look at once |
| Dissolve | Fades the new look in over Duration |
| Jelly | Squashes the mascot, stretches it past full height as the new look appears, then bounces it back to rest. Duration, Squash, Overshoot and Settle Count tune it. |
- Jelly is the default. Reset returns the transition to the Default's.
- Your system's reduced-motion setting turns the transition off. The tab says so while it applies.
- Play changes the preview between the look it shows and the Thinking Look. Each press plays the transition one way, and the next press plays it back.
Export saves the mascot you see as a .webp card, with your changes not saved yet. The card shows the Initial Look, and it holds the mascot's name and the whole rig: every layer and image, the three looks, the Mask, the transition and the Voice. Send the file to a friend. Import reads a .webp card and adds it as a new mascot. Your other mascots stay as they are. It does not change the Mascot switch.
-
The new mascot takes the name in the card, and your AI answers as that name. A card with no name takes the file's name. A name already in use gets a number, such as "Captain 2".
-
A card with a bad field, or one from a different version, is refused. The error names the field, and your mascot stays as it was.
-
The card is an image file with your art inside it. Share it only with people you want to see that art.
AI Context shows what each question of the conversation sent to your AI, and what came back. Use it to find why an answer went wrong: a section the search missed, or a prompt you changed.
- Select โฎ in the title bar, then AI Context.
The dialog has the layout of the game's AI Context Inspector. Each question of the conversation is one page, and the dialog opens on the newest. The line above the blocks says Question N of M and quotes the question. The pager at the bottom turns to another question. The window closes while the dialog is open and opens again when you close it.
| Block | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Search | The screen you had open, the item you had selected, and whether Use the Open Screen was on, the help preset, and each search the question ran. For each search: the sections each source ranked, then the merged order. A section marked sent reached your AI. Sent lists those sections in the order of the request. |
| Request N: AI Search | The AI Search request, and the lines your AI chose |
| Request N: Answer | The answer request, its Tool Rounds when the lookup ran, its reasoning, and the answer as your AI wrote it |
- A request card has the same blocks as a request in the game's inspector. Its header names the endpoint that served it, its reasoning fields, its Max Tokens, and its sampler values. A Custom Prompt mark shows when the prompt of that request differs from the default text.
- Collapse all and Expand all fold or open every block of the open page.
-
Export downloads every question and its trace as a
.jsonfile, for a bug report. - Clear Conversation removes the traces with the conversation. A reload empties them.
On a screen narrower than 768 pixels, Formaquestion fills the screen. It has the Ask, Search and Guide tabs of the narrow layout.
- The sheet slides in from the edge that holds the Help tab. The tab hides while the sheet is open.
- The sheet opens above an open dialog. When you close the sheet, the dialog is as you left it.
- The keyboard does not open until you select a field. With the keyboard open, the sheet fits the space above it.
- The sheet has no Wide View, and you cannot move it or change its size.
- Open Guide in the title bar shows the Guide full screen. See Guide.
- With the mascot on, the sheet shows the mascot's head at the left of the pill, over a dimmed backdrop. A source name opens its section on the wiki in your browser, not in a reader. See Mascot.
- Formaquestion Settings and AI Context fill the screen, so the sheet hides while one is open. When you close it, the sheet shows again as you left it, and an answer that was coming in continues.
- On Android, the back action closes the sheet first, before a dialog under it.
The Help tab opens and closes Formaquestion. It starts on the right edge of the screen, at the middle.
- The tab stays flat against one of the four edges. Its text turns with the edge.
- A press with no move opens the window. A drag moves the tab.
- This device keeps the place of the tab.
- The window opens from the tab and closes into it. If your system reduces motion, the window shows and hides at once.
