The standard approach treats intervals as isolated events. HarmonicField believes intervals are relational. A perfect fourth sounds different when it arrives from below versus above, when it’s part of a descending bassline, or when it’s processed through a vintage synth filter. Our engine layers your training session with ambient backing textures (optional), allowing you to hear intervals the way you’d hear them on stage, in a studio, or through a practice amp—not in a sterile vacuum.

Instead of random intervals, HarmonicField inserts your target interval into a short, 3–5 note phrase. You hear the interval as part of a musical sentence, then you’re asked to identify it. This mimics real-world listening, where intervals appear mid-phrase, often with passing tones.
Your ears get tired. Our algorithm tracks your response latency, accuracy trends, and even your headphone volume (via web audio API). When it detects listening fatigue, it shifts the session to harmonic awareness mode—slower, longer tones, with fewer test items—or suggests a break. HarmonicField is a practice aid, not a substitute for formal ear-training instruction. No app can replace a human teacher’s feedback on your vocal intonation or your instrument-specific technique. The fatigue detection algorithm is heuristic, not medical—if you experience ear pain, dizziness, or ringing, stop using headphones immediately and consult a professional.
The microtonal module is educational only and does not imply any specific aesthetic preference for non-equal temperament systems. All musical examples are generated algorithmically and may occasionally produce dissonant combinations that some listeners find unpleasant—lower the volume or switch instrument palettes if uncomfortable.

Q: Do I need a login? A: No. Open the HTML file or host it locally. Your progress lives in your browser’s storage.
Q: Can I use this to train absolute pitch? A: No, Interval-Trainer is for relative pitch (the relationship between two notes). It does not help you identify a single pitch without external reference.
Q: Why is the forest growing so slowly? A: The forest visual is intentionally recalibrated every 30 days. Early on, trees change quickly (each correct answer adds growth points). In months 2–3, the growth curve flattens, and an old tree may shed leaves when you miss a previously-mastered interval type. This mirrors real memory decay—use it to target your weak spots.
HarmonicField: Your inner ear already knows the notes. We just teach it to listen.
